but this is a crosswalk where the 70-year-old woman was crossing when she was struck by a vehicle coming westbound here on channing way. the driver of that vehicle driving a city car. he or she was a city worker. when they failed to see the woman, hitting her, eventually killing her. but we do want to show you some video from the scene here. the accident happened just before 1:30 this afternoon. a city of berkeley employee was driving the city car, came to a complete stop at the intersection. the driver did not see the woman who was at the crosswalk and hit her. she was pronounced dead here on scene shortly after that. witnesses say that the driver was not speeding, was going about 15 miles an hour when the accident took place. the driver is not facing any charges but officials think that there was some type of city work happening on the street that might have affected the driver's vision. >> there was city of berkeley maintenance work being done in the intersection. and there was equipment in the

middle of the intersection. that may have contributed to some type of visual obstruction for the driver. >> reporter: we're told the driver is cooperating with investigators. now it does not appear drugs or alcohol played a factor in this crash. and we don't know much about the driver or the victim of this accident, other than that she was 70 years old and lived here in berkeley. now, a city spokesperson tells me that their thoughts are with the woman's family this evening. reporting live in berkeley. >> carlos, thank you. new at 6:00, police need your help to find this man. he's suspected of trying to sexual assault a woman along the iron horse trail in walnut creek. east bay regional park police say a woman -- a man approached her from behind and tried to grab her last night near newell after knew. that man began running away from the adult victim. last seen running northbound on broadway. today, rescue workers found the body of a man missing since this week's devastating santa

barbara mudslides. >> i'm saddened to report today another victim was located, bringing the total number of fatal casualties from this tragic incident to 18. >> the 87-year-old was found in his living room. authorities say the number of missing people is now search. search and rescue officials say it's increasingly likely that rescue dries will be finding victims instead of survivors. the mudslide swept through montecito tuesday morning, catching people entirely off guard. >> rescuers are working hard to find any more survivors, but time is running out. >> annabelle from our sister station in los angeles explains why some locations are being double checked. >> reporter: more than 1,000 firefighters on the ground in montecito, shoveling dirt, digging through the mud and debris. with six people still missing, no stone left unturned. >> today, the houses behind us, they've been checked profiles by search teams and search dogs and they're going through today and trying to peel away some of the

santa barbara and here in the bay area. >> let's start with live dopplar 7 showing conditions here rather calm. they are down south as well in the montecito area. right now, plowedy, temperature about 61 degrees been light win and only about 4 miles per hour. as we look ahead over the next three days, saturday, sunday and monday, the holiday, looks like it's going to be mainly sunny days ahead in the montecito area. high temperatures in the low 7s. it's going to be mild. no extreme weather at all. virtually no chance of rainfall over the next three days. however, as the recovery goes on there, i should point out rain is expected to develop there next week. it doesn't like it's going to be heavy rain, but the week will get off to a wet start there. >> thank you. san francisco police issued a $15 million arrest warrant today for the man suspected of killing a transgender d.j. and activist. police are looking for 3-year-old heeu trung nguyen, who is considered armed and

dangerous. believe he shot and killed anthony bubbles torrez in the tenderloin in september. >> new details are surfacing about the man called a homicidal psychopath escaped from a hospital in hawaii and flew to the bay area. prosecutors are now trying to keep randall saito in jail instead of sending him back to the hospital which he escaped. he was found in stockton with two fake i.d.s, two cell phones and more than $6,000 in crash. prosecutors say they proves he carefully planned his escape and had help and they don't want him escaping again. investigateers are trying to understand how he got out before. he opened a combination locked gate, took a taxi, chartered a plane to malibu and flew commercial into san jose. saito was committed to the hospital in 1981 after being acquitted by reason of insanity for the murder of a woman he shot and stabbed multiple times. >> three former employees of the north bay sun and motor cars were arrested today on charges

that they embezzled more than $6 million. federal agents arrested the former general manager and two other former employees. according to the indictment, the three made payments on fraudulent invoices to fake advertising vendors who then sent the money back to the general manager. the crime occurred for years, from 2010 to 2016. angry reaction continues to pour in from the bay area tonight over president trump's crude remarks during an immigration meeting. >> several local lawmakers weighed in during a ceremony in san francisco's china town. they were unveiling a bill that would recognize the lunar new year holiday statewide. they describe the president's remarks as a disturbing step backward. >> it struck me, as it struck probably just about every american, it's deplorable. it's clearly racist. and so insensitive. specifically on the eve of dr. martin luther king's birthday. >> i'm personally condemning the

there's a battle brewing in the east bay. some residents along san about low dam road and are gearing up for a protest. against the relocation of a methadone clinic to right near their homes and businesses. here is abc 7 reporter leslie brinkley with the story. >> reporter: neighbor gretta fletcher has been digging into richmond police records. she claims there are four calls a week complaining of crime near this methadone treatment center on cutting boulevard in richmond. >> the majority of the calls were for, you know, theft and assault and disturbance of the peace. crazy stuff. >> reporter: and she doesn't want the clinic to move to property bordering her backyard. but programs that owns and operates the clinic says they want to move to a larger facility with a bigger waiting

abc 7 news. today in montecito, the death toll rose to 18 after the body of an 87-year-old man was found in his home. six people are still unaccounteder for following the deadly mudslides. authorities are not giving up hope some could be alive. >> we know the window is closing but we're doing our best to search and rescue. you hear stories around the world people missing for eight days, nine days and they were found alive. >> nearly the entire town is under mandatory evacuation orders as crews work feverishly to fix water, gas and grown lines. >> the state's office of emergency service tweeted this video today. look at all the mud. the heavy machines helping clear mud from the show. >> highway 101 between ventura and santa barbara has been closed because of flooding and debris flow. >> it was supposed to reopen monday, but after reassessing the damage, authorities say they

yesterday. a train slammed right into the car, pushing it 100 feet and flipping in into the air. wilson says he went into action when he saw an approaching train, knowing he didn't have much time to save the driver. >> i snatched her out of the car and ran about 50 feet, 60 feet to goat get to this safe governor over here. by the time we got to the corner, five, six seconds later, boom, the train hit her car. >> the drive was shaken up but otherwise not hurt. wilson says she was grateful and he does not consider himself a hero. new details on an injured san francisco police officer. he is well enough after three surgeries to move back to a rehab center. he was patrolling on a bicycle october 18th when a fleeing driver hit him with a car. that driver was arrested. he suffered a traumatic brain injury. now according to his gofundme beige around christmas, he had christmas surgery to replace a missing

extinct. these are beautiful fish. they belong here. they've been here in the past. >> that's manford of the california department of fish and wildlife. he designed an experiment to save the population in redwood creek. this is a homecoming. fish and wildlife pulled them out of the creek back in summer of 2015 when they were this big. they spent sthir entire lives in a hatchery. never been in the ocean. it's a matter of survivability. you're making life easy for them. >> in a way, we are. the 200 fish that we collected, if we had left them in the creek, chances are one or two or three would have returned. >> reporter: today, volunteered returned almost 200 coho back to the creek. one at a time. >> you're gently lowing them in the water and giving them an opportunity to mate. >> reporter: hopefully they'll spawn and return their population to sustaiability.

a bill from the san francisco fire department. $454 appears for paramedic services. >> i was livid because i didn't expect a charge. >> i think it's unfair because we clearly declined help. >> reporter: both protested their charges with the fire department but said they did not get a response. kevin and renee contacted nabc , we contacted the fire department. the spokesman declined to go on camera, but explained the policy, often accident victims are dazed or short. paramedics try to evaluate victims, especially when vehicle damage is so severe. the department did wave those fees for kevin and renee. the spokesman saying there was an assessment done and a medical record created but the assessment was minimal. >> i was really happy that 7 on your side helped resolve this issuhee partment again warns accident victims may not notice injuries that was worsen later like internal bleeding. if paramedics check your vitals, that will generate a bill.
