look for sunny conditions this afternoon with mild temps in the 60s, even mid-60s for some of our warmest locations in the inland area and around the bay. some high clouds passing through this evening, but it should be pleasant with temperatures lowering down to the 50s. now, enjoy the sunshine and have the umbrella handy next week. it is going to be a wet week ahead. i'll have details coming up. >> frances, thank you. a warning this morning after an assault on a typical safe trail. walnut creek police are on the lookout for the attacker who attacked a woman on the iron horse trail in walnut creek. officers want you to see this surveillance image. >> reporter: investigators want to talk with the man seen in this surveillance photo. he may be the person who attacked a woman who attempted

to thursday night. police say this is the area where the attack happened. it is dark and there are lots of bushes. the main trail, however, is lighted and people tell me they're surprised the attack happened here. >> we walk this stretch of the trail all the time. so that's quite upsetting. we don't often hear of things like that around here. >> reporter: police say the man tried to kiss the woman and made threats throughout the attack. >> the intent was clear that it was sexually assault motivated. >> reporter: for some reason he stopped and ran north on broadway. the woman has scrapes and bruises. >> we've done this trail at lunchtime, it seems fine and safe. wouldn't think twice about walking it at lunchtime. >> reporter: police say you should think twice before walking alone on the trail. >> there's no doubt he'll do it

again. >> reporter: if you recognize this man, contactpolice. katie utehs, abc 7 news. 49ers linebacker beuben fo o foster i s out of jail. he's an alabama native. the team issued a statement last night saying they're aware of the matter and are gathering the relevant facts. a pedestrian was hit and killed by a berkeley city vehicle at channing way and fulton street yesterday afternoon. a city worker was behind the wheel of the vehicle when investigators say was traveling at just 15 miles per hour. to avoid a conflict of interest, the highway patrol has been asked to investigate the incident. the 70-year-old victim was a berkeley resident. her name has not been released. we have new developments about a transgender deejay and activist who was killed in san francisco.

quickly. >> relief at the police and the district attorney's office making progress. >> reporter: a $15 million bail is a start. but there's much work to be done. >> yes, and i'll be more happier if they can arrest that suspect. >> we're calling for law enforcement agencies statewide to make this a priority. >> reporter: abc 7 news is told nguyen is a flight risk which accounts for the high balance. they are encouraging anyone with information to speak out. in san francisco, dion lim, abc 7 news. tuesday's deadly mudslides in monday at the sete seecito w blame by the thomas fire. officials have declared it 100% contained. the thomas fire started back on december 4th and is the largest wildfire in state history. investigators still don't know how that fire started. some residents plan to

protest at richmond city hall today against the relocation of a methadone treatment center. the clinic, run by b.a.r.t. programs, wants to move from cutting boulevard in richmond to a larger facility with a bigger waiting room. one person who lives near the proposed facility says richmond police are called to the current center four times a week. >> the majority of the calls were for, you know, theft and assault and disturbance of the peace. oh, yes, are we going to fight it. with every inch of my being. >> richmond officials say the city has no role in the relocation proposal but they will eventualy have to decide whether to issue a land use permit for the new locatio. this year's severe influenza outbreak has claimed the lives of 42 californians, 19 of them bay area residents. at the same time last year the state recorded just nine deaths.

health officials warn people who have not been vaccinated for the flu to do so as soon as possible. a flu that affects dogs has been spreading fast through the south bay, forcing many doggie day cares and kennels to temporarily close to keep it contained. we visited one of the dog care facilities that's been impacted. >> reporter: willow, a playful yellow labrador, started causing as she went to doggie day-care. the staff there immediately sent her to the veterinarian. >> i'm a nurse myself and at the hospital we're crazy with the flu patients and it's a big concern. now we came here and now my dog has the influence. it's disconcerting, because it's serious. >> reporter: it's difficult to initially detect canine flu because the symptoms don't show up until a few days later. this day-care and animal

hospital is treating many dogs. >> i'm going to say 20 at this point. dr. johnson who is over there right now administering to them, had two more positive cases today. so this really is a severe problem. >> reporter: many consensukenne day-care centers are seeing the problems. dr. dave's is shutting down his doggie day-care for at least a week. when it reopens, they will only take dogs that have been vaccinated. the vaccine is a series of two shots taken a few weeks apart. it then takes a couple of weeks for the protection to work. willow is now on antibiotics and will avoid contact with other dogs. >> we'll keep her at home and, you know, take good care of her. >> reporter: most dogs recover but in rare cases the flu can lead to pneumonia and death. in san jose, jeanine de la vega, abc 7 news. a good samaritan who saved a woman from being hit by caltrain

in sunnyvale says he would do what any responsible person would do. he pulled the woman from the tracks on thursday evening. seconds later a train slammed into the car, pushing it 100 feet and flipping it into the air. wilson says what he did was humane, not heroic. >> there are people who are heroes who save lives every day and put their life on the line everyday. what i did, i think most people would have done if they had had the constitution to think that maybe somebody might be in that car. >> wilson says the driver was dazed but otherwise uninjured. he says she was thankful for his good deed, saving her life. oakland city officials will consider moving a bike share station after residents complained. "the chronicle" reports a new ford go back station was installed on thursday honoring

step backwards but it appears that bipartisan group of congressional leaders will keep working on a deal. kenneth motton, abc 7 news, washington. happening now, spacex's dragon cargo spacecraft is headed back to earth. nasa says it will splash into the pacific ocean at 7:30 this morning. the dragon left the international space station after delivering 4,800 pounds of supplies. it's bringing back samples from human and animal research, biotechnology studies, and physical science investigations. an injured san francisco police officer is well enough after three surgeries to move back to a rehab center. the officer was patrolling on a bicycle october 18th when a fleeing driver hit him with a car. the driver was arrested. the officer suffered a traumatic brain injury. according to his gofundme page, he had surgery to replace a missing portion of his skull.

i'm a friend to you. but i don't know, this one becomes so mean to me. >> reporter: chan says she's been swimming in the ocean more than 30 years. she says her first brush with the sea lion at aquatic park was three months ago when one got under her body. after the sea lion bit chan on thursday, she called for help. a rowing club swimmer was there. >> i started swimming with her. i said, should i pull you back to the beach? she said, no, i can swim by myself, i just can't kick because the sea lion bit me on the knee. >> reporter: her son is an e.r. dog. >> my son said, you are very lucky, mom. >> reporter: chan says she plans to continue swimming as early as next week. in san francisco, melanie woodrow, abc 7 news. the world's biggest wave surf contest returns on tuesday. the world surfing league announced the conditions are looking perfect and an official

announcement will come today. organizers originally considered monday but they believe conditions will be too rough. 30 of the world's elite surfers are standing by for the official word including, for the first time ever, six women. the contest was canceled last year after the former organizers went bankrupt. happening today, a town hall meeting for fire victims in sonoma county. federal, state, and local leaders will update the public on recovery efforts since the october wildfires. they'll discuss rebuilding efforts planned for this year. it will take place at the santa rosa high school gym from 10:00 until noon. good morning, everyone. we have a beautiful weekend ahead. i'm starting off with live doppler 7, the satellite image, because there is thick fog especially through parts of the north bay, all through the central valley. that will spill through the bay throughout the day. as we look out from emeryville towards the bay bridge, on one end of the bridge, it's totally clear. as you head into san francisco,

it gets socked in as you make your way into the downtown area. temperatures in the 40s, even 50 out there. san francisco, 49. oakland, 52. half moon bay 59 degrees, really mild right now. we're looking at sfo. you can see a few lights, it just got socked in within the last half hour. you'll find some 30s in the north bay. santa rosa at 38. also very limited visibility. lots of mid-40s through napa, novato, concord, into livermore. compared to yesterday at this time, especially with less cloud cover in parts of the bay area especially in the south bay, it's a bit cooler through san jose, nine degrees cooler. half moon bay with 59 degrees. it is 13 degrees warmer compared to yesterday. here is what you can expect as we enjoy this pretty view from the east bay hills looking out towards san francisco. so we have patches of dense morning fog. not everywhere. the marine layer not as thick. so we should see more sunshine earlier. and then look for a sunny and milder afternoon with temperatures warming into the

mid-60s, above average through the weekend. and enjoy it while you can, because a wet pattern starts on monday. and it sticks around through the rest of the week. in the next few hours, we'll see the fog start to move through the bay, then clearing by about lunchtime. this afternoon we'll see 60s for most everybody, seen some mid-60s in some of the warmest spots like santa rosa, 65. san francisco, 61. oakland, 62. san jose, 64. there will be some high clouds moving through, mostly conditions. check out rain chances. notice by monday for martin luther king jr. day, it jumps up to 60%. then it stays wet. periods of rain throughout the week. so on our storm impact scale, we're going to call this a level 1, a light storm monday into tuesday. we have light to moderate rain expected. less than half an inch for most areas. but up to an inch or more locally in parts of the north bay. here is how it plays out. monday, unfortunately, for all

year's mass shooting in las vegas. the deadliest shooting in modern u.s. history. a federal judge unsealed more than a dozen search warrant affidavits yesterday. we now know the fbi was looking into suspicious e-mail exchanges two months before the attack. the shooter, stephen paddock, may have sent one of the e-mails. one message read, "for a thrill try out bump fire ars with 100 round magazine." 58 people were killed in the shooting in august. this morning, police in illinois have a suspect in custody after an incident involving a possible gunman on a greyhound bus. kenosha county, wisconsin deputies chased the bus down interstate 94 friday night. they eventually stopped it in wadsworth near the illinois/wisconsin border. all 50 passengers are safe. authorities did not elaborate on the incident. the bus was headed from milwaukee to chicago. the nightmare still far from over for communities in montecito. officials say the death toll has risen to 18 after an 87-year-old

victim was found. six people remain missing. annabelle munoz from our sister station in los angeles has more. >> reporter: more than 1,000 firefighters on the ground in montecito, shoveling dirt, digging through the mud and debris. with six people still missing, no stone is left unturned. >> the houses behind us were checked previously by search teams and search dogs. they're going through today trying to peel away some of the layers to get into the some of the voids, use some of their technologies. they have listening devices and telescopic cameras. >> reporter: the smell of natural gas here is so strong, utility companies are working on shutting off the broken water mains and gas lines, while first responders are peeling back the layers of what's left of these homes. fire officials say more than 460 homes were damaged, and 65 destroyed. the death toll rose to 18. the youngest, just 3 years old. >> i mean, just like that.

and wildlife ever assumed all biology experiments take place in a lab. in this case it was in a parking lot. cohoe salmon returning to nature via a hatchery intervention. >> i don't want salmon to go extinct. >> reporter: that's manford kittle. he helped design a three-year experiment and trial to save the endangered cohoe for these cohoe, this is a homecoming. they were pulled out of the creek when they were this big in 2015. they've spent their entire lives in a hatchery, never been in the ocean. it's a matter of survivability. you're making it easy for them. >> in a way we are. the 200 fish we collected, if we had left them in the creek, chances are one or two or three would have returned. >> reporter: today volunteers
