for a store near you. live where you live, this is abc 7 news. we live over the rail. like in the movies. the cop got one of his arms and was holding on so he wouldn't kill himself. >> a wild police chase ends on highway 101 in tran, it even involved a chp helicopter landing on the freeway. >> one of our news crews was on the way to another story as it unfolded. >> alisa harrington spoke to a witness who saw the chase and the chp officer who helped pull the man back over the railing. >> reporter: this is the moment chp officers and good samaritans pulled a man to safety on highway 101 in san francisco. he was dangling from the guardrail of the overpass near the caesar chavez street exit, a 30-foot drop.

>> my grip was loosening and he would have gone over the side without the help of the good samaritans. >> reporter: drivers hung out of car windows and watched as chp helicopter landed in the northbound lanes. the pilot helped take that man into custody. calls started coming in just before 5:00 about a person running barefoot across the highway. >> white male adult in his 30s, wearing a hospital gown, barefoot, carrying a plastic bag, he's running in lanes of traffic and running toward vehicles. >> reporter: officer williams was the first to spot the subject. he says the man jumped over the railing to get away. >> he's hanging over the edge. >> that section of 101 is an elevated freeway. probably 30 feet in the air. so he jumped over. not sure what his intention was. but he was hanging on to that railing and then so i ran up there, grabbed both his wrists. >> crazy, man. crazy. >> reporter: marv was driving to

felt at a given time, he kept going. he kept going. >> reporter: the spirit of dr. king will live on monday as thousands are expected to march throughout the bay area in his honor. a nonprofit dog rescue has to make repairs after a car crashed into its shelter in oakland. rocket dog rescue on foothill boulevard, debris from a crash covered the ground. rocket dog volunteers tell us a car slammed into the facility's fence at about 3:00 this morning. the shelter usually houses about 30 dogs. all were inside the building at the time of the crash. >> luckily no dogs were hurt. but it's tough, because we use the space to kind of have the dogs play around and be able to get out of their kennels. >> this marks the second time someone has driven into rocket dog's shelter. you're looking at what happened in april of 2016 when a stolen van smashed through a fence then. a pg&e equipment failure

left over 1,000 in san francisco south of market area without electricity for about an hour today. the outage happened at 12:30 this afternoon. crews had to defer jits a line which cut off power to residents in the neighborhood around spear and harrison. power was restored to all customers by 1:30. the cause of the equipment failure is under investigation. new developments tonight with the false missile warning that led to 38 minutes of terror in hawaii. president trump made his first public comments and we have learned that action has been taken against the person who made the mistake. abc's richard cantu has an update. >> reporter: president trump sunday night responding to the false incoming missile alert that sent hawaii into a panic. >> we're going to get involved. they took responsibility. they made a mistake. >> reporter: the veteran technician who triggered the alarm is now off the job. hawaii's governor saying it all happened because a wrong button was pressed. officials temporarily suspending future drills and changing the

daca program started by president obama. last year the trump administration announced it would be ending the program. >> one of the biggest fears that i have is that i'm going to see some of my friends be persecuted. >> reporter: on tuesday, a federal judge in san francisco ordered the administration to resume daca. and they've complied. as of last night the federal government once again began accepting renewal requests for those looking for protection from deportation. but there's a bigger fight mounting in washington. negotiations over a comprehensive immigration bill fell apart this past week. president trump tweeted this morning, daca is probably dead because the democrats don't really want it, they just want to talk and take desperately needed money away from our military. south bay congressman ro khanna addressed the issue today. >> our first priority has to be to protect the daca kids. the federal judge did his job by showing that the

celebration was held on the eve of dr. martin luther king jr. day to celebrate the civil rights icon. the audience also spoke of reverend king's message in the age of the trump administration. many felt the president's controversial actions stand in the way of the equality king sought. the person who set out the false message about an incoming missile in hawaii has been reassigned. changes have been made to the way the alerts are set. the protocol will now involve two people. tomorrow marks the commercial crabbing season opener for northern california and with it a warning about the danger crab traps pose to other animals. the nonprofit center for biological diversity says dozens of endangered whales and sea turtles get tangled in lines and then die by slow and painful drowning. the group is calling for your help to make change. >> we urge you to contact your state representative, your state senator, call california fish and game. urge them to take action, real action, set up strong rules to

protect humpback whales and other animals off the california coast. >> the center says by changing trapping methods and wear whenner and when traps can be used to can help keep more animals alive. here's something you don't see every day. a car stuck in the second story of a dental office. take a look. in santa ana, witnesses say the driver was speeding, hit the center median, and the car was launched into the air. it landed on the second story of the building, starting a fire, stuck far enough in that it was stuck. witnesses said the driver got out, hanging from the side of the building. a man pumping gas nearby heard the commotion. >> heard a big boom. what he did, he hit there and it got launched. >> firefighters put out the flames and helped keep the vehicle stable. they rescued the driver and extracted the person from inside, both had minor injuries. police believe the driver was on drugs. 50 people survived an inferno aboard a boat that was shuttling them between a

floating casino and a port near tampa, florida. a person on the beach captured video of the fire as rescuers raced to the scene and passengers jumped in the water. passengers began wading to shore while the sun began to set. >> one lady ran up to the grass behind here and she couldn't breathe, she was in shock. >> the neighbors came out and they were phenomenal, bringing blankets and sheets and jackets and whatnot to try to get these people warm. because they were fully submerged in water. >> 15 people had to be rushed to the hospital. all of them are expected to survive. investigators are trying to figure out what sparked tonight's fire. a pennsylvania man is happy to be on dry ground after he drove into a flooded highway in pittsburgh. take a look, this is video of jason corbyn after his truck got submerged in an area known as the bathtub. corbyn said he thought the water was two feet deep, but his truck stopped running. corbyn shared his experience on facebook live. >> here we go from my own
