when a helicopter landed in the northbound lanes to help the officer on the ground. it started just before 5:00 p.m. last night when drivers called about a barefoot man running across the freeway. the man tried to jump over the side about 30 feet above the ground. >> the traffic stopped. i just got out of car to go over there and help bring the dude back over. he came back over and they detained him once that happened. it's like, you know, it was crazy, man. crazy. >> the man is undergoing a mental health evaluation. it is 4:30. if you're just getting up with us, good morning. here's a quick update on weather and traffic. we start with mike nicco. >> all right everybody. talk more about that fog and the reporting stations, driving from the east bay it gets thicker. down to a quarter of a mile. it's thicker into the central valley. watch out for that fog. it will be around all throughout the morning commute. in fact, let's talk about your 12-hour planner starting with

the morning commute. temperatures are running cooler mid to upper 40s. heading towards noon, around 60. mainly cloudy and hazy. showers develop in the north bay at 4:00. 57 to 62. it will spread south by 7:00. 55 to 56. we'll have more on the timeline for when that rain reaches your neighborhood coming up soon. ee do have this sigalert once again. fog an issue. that's not the problem with the sigalert. the sigalert has 280 completely shut down. no estimated time of opening. a detour in place. avoid this if you can. marshview, one lane blocked with an accident. also over towards 880 near washington, they're cleaning up an accident here with several lanes and debris there as well. heads up. i'm not seeing a lot of slowing at this hour. now a live desk update. president trump is now flat out denying he used profane

language to describe haiti and african nations during an oval office meeting on immigration last week. the president's allies in that room are also coming to his defense. but a top democrat in congress says he believes the president is a racist. abc news reporter elizabeth hur is live in new york and has details. elizabeth? >> reporter: good morning. you know they say there are two sides to every story. here we are as far as what was really said behind the closed door meeting. now it depends who you ask. >> facing massive backlash, president trump addressing the growing firestorm. >> no, i'm not a racist. i am the least racist person you have ever interviewed. >> speaking from his florida beach club, the president denying he made vulgar and offensive comments about haiti and africa in the oval office. >> did you see what various senators in the room said about my comments?

first, try to avoid a possible government shutdown on friday and tackle the ongoing fight over daca and immigration reform. reporting live in new york, i'm elizabeth hur for abc 7 news. elizabeth, thank you. it's 4:34 now. air bnb is responding to the vulgar comments by the president. >> they're launching a $100,000 digital campaign to promote tourism in haiti, el salvador and african countries. they showed photos of destinations in those countries. it wants to encourage more travelers to visit these special and beautiful places. meanwhile, an agreement with san francisco is costing air bnb thousands of hosts. hosts must register with the city or be kicked off the site. according to the chronicle, an estimated 6,000 hosts have failed to register. others reached an agreement with the city last may. san francisco wants hosts to be permanent residents. the law is designed to help

landlords from becoming full-mime hotels. the fcc is slamming the government and hawaii about a missile attack over the weekend, calling the incident "absolutely unacceptable." the agency says hawaii did not have safeguards in place to prevent the transmission of a false alert. the employee who sent the warning out to millions of people has now been reassigned. future drills have also been temporarily suspended and the new protocol will require two people to send out a systemwide alert. a community meeting is set for tomorrow to provide help to neighbors left homeless by the mudslides in montecito. thousands attended a vigil last night in memory of those who died and those still missing. the death toll climbed to 20 yesterday after they found the body of a 30-year-old man, his 6-year-old son and his father-in-law died in the mudslide. the man's daughter is still missing. it may be weeks before a stretch of highway in montecito reopens.

about 70,000 vehicles a day use that freeway. crews in the north bay are making significant progress on cleanup and recovery following the october wildfires. state officials tell the press dat cleanup in coffey park is expected to wrap up in about two weeks. the rest of the area should be cleared in the next 18 months. the north bay wildfires killed 40 people. the flames destroyed more than 6,000 homes. nonprofit dog rescue has to make repairs after a car crashed into the shelter in oakland. abc 7 news was at rocket dog rescue on foothill boulevard where debris covered the ground from an early morning crash. volunteers tell us that a car slammed into the facility's fence around 3:00 a.m. yesterday. the shelter houses about 30 dogs. >> luckily, no dogs were hurt. it's tough because we use the space out here to kind of help with the dogs to play around and them to be able to get out of

their kennels. >> this is the second time that this has happened. this happened in april of 2016 when a stolen van smashed through the fence. all right. let's start with our temperatures compared to this time yesterday. we're cooler from about the san mateo bridge northward. 1 to 4 degrees cooler. we'll focus in on san francisco. we're about 48 and sunny side, glenn park, 49. everybody else about 50 to 52 mild degrees this morning. here's a look from the exploratorium at pier 15. back in an area not quite as foggy as the rest of us, that being san francisco. roads watch out because of that dense fog. it will be throughout the morning commute. we've had showers coming for the afternoon hours. so if you're taking mass transit, may need an umbrella if you have to wait outside then. on the bay, foggy in spots but the breezes will be light. let's look at the 12-hour planner for the east bay valleys. mainly cloudy. a little sunshine breaking through the cloud deck.

that. this morning, comedian and actor aziz ansari is responding to allegations of sexual misconduct made against him by a woman he briefly dated last year. in a statement, ansari apologized to the 23-year-old photographer after she told them she had an uncomfortable sexual encounter with him at his apartment. she claims he was aggressive toward her. the woman texted him the day after to let him know that she was upset with his behavior that night. the woman says she came forward after she saw ansari wearing a time's up pin at the golden globe awards last week. back to you. jessica, thank you. it's 4:43 now. a live look at the morning light hitting the martin luther king, jr. memorial in washington, d.c. people are already gathering there to honor his legacy and message. the nation honoring the great civil rights leader today, of course. there are king day events across the bay area, including the celebration train from san jose to san francisco. abc 7 news reporter matt keller

unfortunately, it's never going to happen now. that's too bad. hi everybody. a look from the east bay hills. you can see it's very hazy out there on this spare the air day. no wood burning today. we're going to go from fog to clouds today and some showers develop in the north bay. my highlight for tonight, we have a better chance of receiving some light showers as they move from north to south and several weak storms will hit us this week. highs today, will be pretty comfortable. upper 50s to low 60s until you get in the south bay. san jose south where we've got mid 60s. you can see green out there and yellow. you may have a moderate shower. temperatures run from the upper 40s to the low 50s. maybe a few mid-50s around. burlg aingame and up towards sa francisco. this is going to head to the north. that's why we'll get light amounts of rain out of this system from tonight through tomorrow morning. less than a quarter of an inch. maybe up to half an inch in the north bay in higher elevations.

9:00 this morning, clouds and fog and then you can see my, say, noon, showers around lake and mendocino counties. in the north bay, may be a rogue sprinkle ahead of that. this evening, a few light showers and the front moves into the north bay with light to moderate showers at 2:00 tomorrow morning. in the heart of the bay by 4:00 and then exiting the south bay as we head towards 9:00. so tomorrow's morning commute, it will be a little tricky with the wet roads out there. we'll turn into a mostly cloudy afternoon and then wednesday partly cloudy an then just 1 on the storm impact scale for thursday, friday and sunday. more on that coming up. sue, the look at the san mateo bridge. how is it going? >> so far fog-free. that's a nice thing because it's thick in certain spots. traffic is flowing nicely from 880 towards 101. we do have this traffic alert in closure.cisco for a full freeway our abc 7 crew is on the scene

with an update on what's happening there. it's police activity. no estimated time of opening. there is a detour in place. now a live desk update. >> hi everyone. from our live desk, police in indonesia have ruled out the possibility a bomb was responsible for the collapse of the floor of the jakarta stock exchange. i want to show you this new video we have. you have to see this. it's incredible. as many as 47 people are hospital liesed from injuries. look at that collapse. no doubt so many hurt. there are people with fractures right now. witnesses say they felt a tremor seconds before the mezzanine fell. a group of college students were on the mezzanine minutes after noon when the structure collapsed. the building was evacuated as a precaution. trading resumed a few hours later as that investigation into exactly what caused this collapse does continue at this very hour. as soon as we get updates, i'll
