just after 10:30 last night. they say a man holding a gun repeatedly said "kill me." a crisis negotiator talked with the man but refused to drop his gun. one of the officers shot the man, the man was taken to the hospital. his condition has not been released. good samaritans helped the chp rescue a man who jumped off the side of highway 101 in san francis francisco. the man was reportedly running barefoot near the chavez exit. the man jumped and ended up holding onto the length. t -- length. a chp helicopter landed on the freeway and helped take the man into custody. a san francisco firefighter rapelled down a cliff to help a dog this morning. about 11:00 this morning, stuck there was a labrador named b

until 4:00 tomorrow afternoon. wave heights are elevated and may reach 20 feet. a possibility of beach erosion and strong rip currents. bear that in mind. along the coast is not a very safe place to be right now. it will swing southward and eastward during the morning hours producing scattered showers. low temperatures will be generally in the low 50s. the approaching storm ranks one. a storm of light intensity. it will start moving in late tonight, producing generally light rain, most locations around the bay area will see less than a tenth of an inch of rain, but around the north bay, a quarter of an inch. rainfall estimates as we look at the plot here, the animation, we expect maybe a few hundreds of an inch. but heavier precipitation up north. starting at midnight thursday, we have that other storm coming

in later ha i tothat i told you. snow in the sierra. sunday and monday another storm comes in. and that's going to produce significant snow accumulation. snow has not been great so far this winter. so from thursday p.m. to friday p.m., a winter storm watch in the sierra. up to two feet could fall in the higher elevations. it will be down to 3,000 feet. this is one of the colder systems we've seen over the sierra this entire season. look it at the projected snow accumulation totals. a foot and a half at khyber. 14 inches at tahoesy, and here is a look at tomorrow's highs. mainly right around 60 degrees, perhaps not quite so mild up in the north bay, and here's the accuweather seven-day forecast.

>> reporter: they are here from florida marveling at the redwoods. the park gets roughly 1.1 million visitors a year. this free day they expect between 2,000 and 3,000 all trying to fit into 232 parking spaces. >> we've been here two times before and left because we could not find a parking space. >> sounds like we're just s-o-l. >> reporter: it has become so daunting that beginning tomorrow, the national mapark service will move to a reservation system. >> it's been a challenge for many years to manage congestion on the roads. this is image that emerged. >> reporter: is it bet sner. >> absolutely worse. >> reporter: they worry about 35-foot buses wearing out roads and blocking them and causing more of a hazard outside the

had celebrated her 40th birthday. less than three weeks later she got so sick from the flu that she was in the emergency room. her condition declined so quickly, he wshe was moved to intensive care. >> this was nothing like i have ever seen, how quickly this deteriorated her and attacked her was amazing. >> reporter: 15 hours after arriving at the hospital, the mother of three passed away. ka katie ashley thomas's father and stepmother have not recovered from the shock. she did yoga and pilates 48 hours after the first symptoms. while the older are susceptible to the flu, they have seen 42 deaths
