after a surgeon allegedly left a scalpel in his stomach. >> that scalpel was inside him for four years. it was found after he complained of abdominal pain. his attorney says his client was used as a guinea pig by a doctor in training who had no idea what was going on. >> and so far no comment from the va about all of this. and gymnast simone biles is the latest to accuse a former team doctor of sexual assault. >> she posted a message saying she's not afraid to tell her story anymore. >> reporter: one of the biggest names in u.s.a. gymnastics, simone biles coming forward to say she too was abused by former team doctor, larry nassar. she wrote for too long i've asked myself was i too naive? was it my fault? i now know the answer to those

he has faced deportation since 2009. the trump administration crackdown led to the day his family has been dreading. >> it's a nightmare. they're sad, they're depressed. they don't really comprehend everything that's going on. all they know is he's gone and they don't know when they're going to see him again. >> she's been told her husband can't go back to the u.s. for 10 years. and the chief federal health agency decided the flu is a bigger problem than preparing for a nuclear attack. many have been adults in the prime of life. the 40-year-old california woman ran marathons and was in good health until last week. she died within 48 hours of developing symptoms even though her family believes she had a flu shot. an 11-year-old boy in connecticut has also died.

he was there at a hockey tournament but was too ill to play. one of the passengers on board a shuttle boat that caught fire has now passed away. she and 49 other passengers had to jump off the boat to escape the fire. >> reporter: harrowing video of the island lady casino shuttle boat engulfed in flames off florida's gulf coast. 36 passengers and 14 crew on board desperate to survive. jumping from the top and bottom decks in to the water on one of the coldest days of the year. >> people started jumping out one by one and the fire got really quick really fast. >> we had to jump eight or ten feet to the water. >> reporter: the shuttle boat was heading to a casino nine to 12 miles offshore.

been canceled. here with more. >> reporter: the mega blast of snow and bitter cold pounding millions from texas to maine. in kentucky they're fighting a losing battle to black ice. this car slamming into an officer's cruiser. spinouts from south dakota to indiana where this semi jackknifed backing up traffic for miles. the blinding storm moving east. entire towns under an invasion of massive chunks of ice blocking rivers, water, spilling into nearby community. in maine, cars submerged. >> we saw the tire parking lot was under water, we were a bit shocked. >> reporter: a massive ice jam covering the delaware river. a state of emergency declared. they closed down this main road after frozen flood waters forcing some people to evacuate.

after one of them a 17-year-old who police say was emaciated and appeared to be only 10 was able to grab a cellphone, run outside and call 911. telling police her parents were holding her 12 siblings captive. they found several children shackled to their beds with chains and padlocks. according to the police statement they were held in dungeon-like conditions in their own filth and said they were starving. seven of the children found were actually adults ranging from 18 to 29. >> everybody was super skinny and not athletic skinny, malnourished skinny. >> very pale skinned almost like they've never seen the sun. >> reporter: neighbors say the family was quiet. facebook pictures showing the couple renewing their vows. the 13 children in identical haircuts and outfits.

>> they were probably very disciplined and meticulous about keeping the children captive. >> reporter: they were booked on charges of torture and child endangerment. each being held on a $9 million bail. >> and to follow up on what you were saying there. right now all of the children are being treated at hospitals. abc spoke with their grandparents and they said the last time they visited the children, they appeared thin but happy. they said the children were given very strict home schooling and said god called on the couple to have so many children. it will be another week before a critical highway reopens. crews removed tons of mud and debris. but there's still a lot of work ahead. meanwhile, there's still three people missing. a 17 year old, a 28-year-old and
