we can say they are fighting for their lives, one in particular, with a gunshot wound to the chest. in napa, they're talking about this 66-year-old man as a neighborhood hero who saw something suspicious and got shot for it. >> he's not going to quit on his wife, if anybody can get him through it it's her. >> reporter: a neighbor describes somebody being in the wrong place at the wrong time. >> what we're finding out is that possibly he observed a subject peering over a fence and kind of stopped to find out what this individual was doing. >> he was not inside his vehicle. >> reporter: he was the second victim in less than two hours in napa this morning after shootings at two different locations. >> they're only related by suspect. it does not appear that there's a relationship between the first victim and second victim. >> reporter: the first shooting happened outside the starbucks on jefferson street, a

20-year-old suspect shot a 19-year-old in the abdomen. >> there was no argument, there was nothing really preceding it that would give us a tale tell reason of why. >> reporter: the suspect went to -- after shooting the second victim, a neighbor called police and they made the arrest. >> reporter: napa police took him into custody and he possessed a 9 millimeter hand gun. they do say he matches the description of both victims. >> a confrontation sent a free mochbt police detective and a suspect to the hospital. officers went to hayward, to investigate a stolen car at

larch mont and broad more avenue. the chp officer whose legs were broken in a crash on highway 4 this week under went surgery and today the chp tweeted this photo which shows officer martin lendway only hours after the crash on a gurney still wearing his helmet. they say that lendway is a chp officer. tammy walker slammed her suv right into his motorcycle leaving lendway pinned under a truck. a sheriff's deputy in the east way is facing charges in connection with an inmate beating at the san jose jail. joseph bailey is charged with a fight last october. he's accused of allowing another inmate to beat another inmate.

he was placed on administrative leave when an investigation into the fight began. we mentioned at the top of this newscast about an accident that took place in antioch. there was a crash that happened just before 1:00 this afternoon on summersville road in that area. roads in that area are still closed. >> reporter: laura anthony is live at the scene with the latest. this is a heart breaking scene here, i am at summersville road at the highway 4 offramp. and as you can see, there are two trucks here, both of them totaled. the white one was actually the one we're told by the contra costa sheriff's department was a suspect vehicle, a stolen car that they were trying to pull over on the highway, it was not a pursuit, they were just trying to pull over that white truck, as they were trying to do that, the suspect we're told, took off at a high rate of speed, came here, went through a red light

and then smashed into this other silver ford truck, it's an f-150. you can see that vehicle is completely obliterated, there was a family in there, we're told that at least one adult, two children, the two children are in critical condition. let's show you some video that we have and some pictures that we obtained from a witness who was out here just after this happened, it happened a little bit before 1:00, this is a young woman who came by and saw the scene, belinda saldano is her name. she said she saw these two young girls and the paramedics trying to work on these young girls. they were taken away and we understand they're in critical condition. there was a parent or an adult in that silver car with these young girls. that person was also injured, and the driver of the white truck is described as a

23-year-old pittsburgh man, he was also injured and taken to an area hospital. at this point, contra costa sheriffs saying they were simply trying to pull over what they thought was a suspected stolen truck. at that point the suspect took off and this is what happened when he ran a red light at the bottom of this offramp. there could be an immigration sweep in the bay area in the next week. last week immigration and customs enforcement raided a dozen 7-eleven stores. a large scale operation would show this the trump administration is carrying out enforcement actions to make a political point and not basing it on the security of the country. secretary of state rex tillerson was at stanford today and he talked about north korea. >> he said economic sanctions

against the country are working and provided some proof. and the strategy that tillerson hopes that eventually diffuse tension in the region. >> it was former secretary of state condoleezza rice who turned the conversation to the ongoing tension with the north korean leader kim jong-un. >> the level of communication that goes on between ourselves, south korea and china on this issue is pretty extraordinary, people would probably be surprised at how often we're on the phone with one another a week. >> reporter: tillerson also recognizes it's facing a threat with north korea's nuclear development and missile tests. tillerson shared details at a meeting with a japanese minute try this week, how north korea is sending out fishing boats in hostile winter weather and many crewmen are dying at sea and not able to get home.

a major announcement today by apple. the tech giant is planning to build another corporate campus and hire 20,000 new workers over the next 25 years. apple says the plan is part of a $350 billion commitment to the yoougts economy. apple vowed to bring back more than $250 billion in offshore cash. apple says it will announce the location of the second campus. ceo tim cook says it won't be in california or texas. there was another record breaking day on wall street, the dow jones closed above the

good evening, thanks for joining us. >> this crash happened just before 1:00 this afternoon at somersville road and delta fair boulevard right off highway 4, that area is still closed off. abc7 news reporter laura anthony joins us live from the scene. >> reporter: just a tragic scene out here, this is somersville road, you can see the wreckage of the two trucks, four hours after this accident happened, just before 1:00, let's show you what it looked like a little bit earlier this afternoon. now we're told from contra costa county sheriffs that one of their deputies was trying to pull over this white ford f-250 and as that car pulled on to the offramp here in somersville, it sped up, ran the red light and then slammed into that silver truck. that truck contained an adult and two young girls, we talked with som
