minutes away. >> it's definitely a little taller so we can see it better than we could at the transamerica. gives you an idea how thick the fog is. let's talk about the storm impact scale for the rain and the showers dominating our forecast today and tomorrow. even snow levels down to 3500 feet could mean a dusting on the higher tops if we can bounce one or two of the showers into those hills tomorrow. the showers themselves are moving to the north while the storm heads to the southeast. look at all the thick fog. that's the big story through 7:00. rain moving into the north bay by 7:00. moving into the heart of the bay by noon with mid to upper 50s. we should have rain everywhere. mid-50s and by 7:00 it turns over to showers. not quite as widespread but still wet for the evening commute. let's find out about the dry morning commute, sue.

>> we have a couple of problems. speeds do not mix well with fog. >> b.a.r.t., there's a 20-minute delay building. it was ten minutes due to equipment problems on the track tweent embarcadero and west oakland. we'll be following that for you. sigalert out of marin county southbound 101 near spencer. an overturn blocking the right lane. it's also dense fog with slower speeds because of the accident blocking and a big rig stalled out in the altamont pass near 205 with backups now fairly typical, though. just a little bit earlier than usual. they will try to get a tow truck for the big rig and clean that out of there. thank you, sue. developing news now. the potential of a massive immigration crackdown has sparked a lot of fear in bay area immigrant communities. >> now advocates, volunteers and politicians across california are getting prepared. abc 7 news reporter janine did he la vega is live with more.

>> jessica, i.c.e. officials won't comment on the -- they are speaking out about the possibility of i.c.e. raids. this is all in response to a report from the san francisco chronicle which according to a source says u.s. immigration officials are now preparing for a major sweep in the city and in other areas of northern california. it goes on to report that federal agents are looking to arrest more than 1500 undocumented people. activists tell us the story created fear in their community. >> we're going to have to reach out to our community and say, send your children to school. you know, go to work. don't let this -- don't let them win. >> activists and politicians say they believe california is being targeted because of its bold sanctuary city policies which aims to protect immigrant communities. san francisco supervisors we spoke to are standing together against any attack on their city. the attorney general will be

speaking at 11:00 this morning and he's going to be reminding employers about what their responsibilities are under california law. reporting live from san francisco, janine dela vega, abc 7 news. democrats are fighting for a daca deal with one day left before a potential government shutdown. d.r.e.a.m.ers are told to renew applications immediately. >> javier joined the california community college chance lors to say they want to help students renew their applications. a ninth circuit judge temporarily blocked president trump's move to end daca last week. in a deal to protect the d.r.e.a.m.ers is needed to keep the government open past tomorrow. >> they come to school every single day not knowing if on the way to school they're going to be detained. this is no way to treat human beings. >> the department of homeland security is accepting

applications. the cost is $495. education leaders say colleges may have programs to help assist students with funds for the renewal fee. new developments from stanford university where students say someone drugged them at a fraternity party. the school says the alleged perpetrator has been issued a notice of investigation. now that bars him from contacting anyone from the party. it also bans him from campus and stanford-owned property. at least seven students were drugged at the sigma chi house friday night. the suspect is reportedly a student at dartmouth in new hampshire. the fraternity released a statement saying it's aware of the allegations and is working with local authorities and the university. the chp officer whose legs were broken in a chain reaction crash on highway 4 has gone through a successful surgery. the highway patrol posted this photo showing the officer hours after the crash on monday night. you can see he has his helmet on and giving us a shaka. he was responding to a crash

when tammy walker slammed her suv into his motorcycle. len way was pinned under a truck. walker, arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. an olympic figure skater received some happy news. san francisco police found all of they are stolen costumes and ice skates. the prize possessions were stolen in japan town last week. reporter lillian kim has the full story. >> here they are in the possession of san francisco police. two dresses and a pair of ice skates which will be returned to the bronze medalist. the pairs skater was eating at a restaurant when the prized items were stolen from the family's rental car. she tweeted, thank you, thank you, thank you san francisco police. >> i can't disclose where they were found. it's part of a confidential portion of the investigation. >> officer grace said the department received numerous tips from the public. the fact that the items are one

were struggling off of the coast in the surf. that is when the drone found them. it's a rescue drone. it's able to quickly launch, find people and then send a raft down to them to save them. luckily, they happened to be nearby as lifeguards were training to use this drone and that's how they got them out of water so quickly. some more incredible video from our live desk. a time lapse of what happened overnight at a turkish airport. crews are removing a plane that veered off a runway and over a cliff last weekend. in fact, we watched this recovery process throughout the morning in our newsroom. miraculously, everyone on that plane last week, the boeing 737, they managed to get off the plane uninjured but the aircraft had been left there until now. they were able to pull it up this morning. >> 162 passengers, six crew members were on board that flight which originated from

anka ankara, the turkish capital. people who suffer from teeth grinding and jaw clinching. a new study finds that botox may provide relief. here's more on that. >> in this morning's gma first look, botox for your teeth? the injection commonly moan for reducing wrinkles can be used to prevent damage in your mouth. a new study from houston methodist hospital published in neurology and funded by the makers of botox. allergen pharmaceuticals. they looked at is as a treatment option for sleep bruxism or teeth grinding. >> patients will grind their teeth at night and it will result in significant dental damage. >> the small study took 22 people giving 13 of them botox injections into their chewing and temporalis muscles in the jaw. the rest had placebo shots. four weeks later, those who received botox on average

reported fewer symptoms and less pain. the placebo group saw no changes. >> dr. jennifer ashton will weigh in live coming up on gma. uber plans to place cars without human backup drivers on the road by next year. uber officials made that announcement at an auto investors conference in detroit, saying the time frame for driverless cars is the same as its competitors. volvos are uber's choice for autonomous vehicles. there are 215 test vehicles on the roads with passengers and human backups, including here in the bay area. it's currently testing on public roads without human backups. happening today, san francisco's first stationless bike sharing system is going to debut. jump bicycles will also offer electric assisted bikes. that's where users still pedal but an electric motor kicks in to help you, you know, go up the

that's my first highlight. then tonight, scattered, chilly showers as temperatures drop into the 30s and 40s. those future storms we've been talking about are showing signs of weakening. you can see the moisture increasing as the clouds get thicker. the steadiest rain from eureka up to vancouver. because that's where the heart of the storm is. we're getting the tail end of the storm. you can see through 9:00, here's your clock in the upper right part of the screen. then you can see it moves into the heart of the bay easily by noon. even into the east bay. south bay, that will have to wait until after noon that you'll get your rain. it's there by 4:00. more rain is developing up in the north bay at 4:00. that evening commute will be dicey. by 7:00, that rain is starting to move out of north bay and then by about, say, 19, 10:00 it turns over to showers. the best chance of showers, if we have lightning or thunder, it will be over the warmer ocean water. heading through the day tomorrow, scattered showers at

the merge after 205. that's why we're looking at an hour. going into dublin, pleasanton. westbound 4 looks great in the concord into san francisco. there is slowing. we had a sigalert over the waldo grade. we'll check on that in a couple of minutes. sue, thank you. a consumer alert this morning. the berkeley police department says scammers claiming to be police officers are calling people to demand money. what's tricky is the crooks found a way to make their phone number appear legitimate. like it's coming from berkeley p.d. the scammers are threatening to arrest people if they don't pay. the department says don't fall for it. do not give out any financial information over the phone. officers are not making these phone calls. the department issued the alert after receiving more than a dozen calls from concerned citizens. starbucks is experimenting

spots, including still a sigalert for an overturn coming into san francisco from marin county. we'll update that in a couple of seconds. sue, thank you. a family is having to deal with horrible grief this morning. they lost their 4-year-old daughter after a driver in antioch crashed into them. >> according to police, that driver responsible was running a red light and running from the sheriff's office. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live in antioch with this heartbreaking story. amy? >> hi, jessica. police did arrest the driver and they booked him into jail. take a look at the aftermath of this crash. police say that there were three people inside the silver truck, a woman and her two young daughters. the 4-year-old girl inside was killed, the woman and her 2-year-old girl were taken to the hospital. investigators say police spotted the stolen white pickup truck and attempted to pull over the driver. they say he exited highway 4 on to summersville road in antioch

and ran a red light crashing into the truck with the mother and the children. the impact sounded like a bomb exploded, witnesses said. >> it's sad. i got four kids. i'd be devastated if something like this happened to us. >> reporter: police arrested 23-year-old noe saucedo of pittsburg. his bail was set at just over a million dollars. officers have not identified or released the names of the victims. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. if you're a wells fargo customer, you want to check your banking accounts right away this morning. a problem with the bill pay system has drained the accounts of some customers. in fact, it was a glitch that led to some bill payments being processed twice late yesterday. it left some accounts overdrawn. some customers say they got e-mails telling them their checking accounts had nothing in

them. customers then jammed the bank's service lines and people who finally got through were told their accounts would be fixed overnight. wells fargo working on that right now. they have tweeted that it's working to fix the issue and is thanking customers for their patience. >> pretty good-sized earthquake shook the north bay. it's centered near the geysers. the earthquake registered 4.2. we haven't received any reports of injuries for damage. a cal student will go back to class on monday after being released on a visa violation. luis mora walked with his girlfriend and attorney away from otay mesa detention center yesterday. he was granted $1500 bail. he was arrested at a checkpoint after his girlfriend made a wrong turn leaving a party. >> grateful to be here and to be able to fight my case through the country i call home, despite of minot having legal papers

exploring possible legal action that it can take against the federal government for what she says is retaliation against sanctuary cities. happening today, jury selection begins for a man charged with not leaving an evacuation area during the north bay fires. evan newman and his brother say they were protecting their home. police arrested them, they went to jailed chld pay a thousand bucks each for jail. mark pleaded guilty because he's the sole support for the family. he got three years' probation and 180 days of community service. evan pleaded not guilty and plans to fight the charge. he says he was not given a direct order to leave. evan faces six months in jail if he's convicted. happening today the riverside county parent suspected of holding their 13 children in torturous conditions are due in court to be arraigned. abc news learned that david and louise turpin will be represented by attorneys from the county public defender's

goals have not been met. >> b.a.r.t. has taken delivery of just 20 cars. it hoped to have 60 in service by the end of last year. let's head up north where we expect the rain to move in, in the next couple of hours. mainly cloudy with low to mid-50s. we've got 48 right now in lafayette. look at daly city, redwood city and cupertino. the rest of us dress for low to mid-50s. the fog is dangerously thick around oakland and san carlos. in fact, oakland visibility is less than an eighth of a mile. you have to be careful if you're traveling 880. 13, 24 any of the side streets. it is going to be hard to see more than a couple of hundred feet ahead of your car. we're about one mile visibility in san carlos. you can see some of that thicker fog around the dunbarton bridge and the western side of the san mateo bridge. here's the western side of the the bay bridge where the fog is

getting thicker. the bigger story this afternoon, everything will be wet during the evening commute. take an umbrella if you're using mass transit. it will be foggy then wet on the bay today. temperatures running in the mid to upper 50s today. much cooler than the last couple of days thanks to this cold front. here we are in the east bay. 8:00, cloudy and 52. then just mid-50s with light rain starting at 10:00 changing over to scattered showers by 6:00. how about over on the other side, the peninsula, cloudy and 51. atually, pretty foggy at 8:00. you can see light rain at 10:00. it will go through at least 4:00. maybe a little bit drier during the evening hours as we transition over to those scattered showers. you can see scattered showers tonight. but the thing you'll notice, how much cooler it is. look at the mid to upper 30s. ukiah cloverdale, the rest in the low to mid-40s. talk about our chance of snow and the chance of snow in the sierra, which is coming up next. we're still recovering from

mcconnell is blaming the president for a deal not being reached. >> as soon as we figure out what he is for, then i would be convinced that we were not spinning our wheels. >> the president rejected a bipartisan senate proposal calling it horrible and very, very weak. the deal on the table now would be a one-month funding measure and if it does not pass, the government shutdown would begin tomorrow night. >> in the midst of one of the deadliest flu seasons in years, scientists are hoping to develop a universal vaccine that may need to be only taken once. in fact, the national institutes of health is designated a universal flu vaccine as a top priority. that's a tall order given the fact flu viruses constantly mutate just enough to be our beth defenses. that's why we need a new vaccine every fall. researchers are closing in on a stronger flu shot guarding against future pandemics and need to be taken just that one

>> the chase center is scheduled to open for the 2019-2020 season. >> i can picture it. i can see it coming together. you are never more than search minutes away from your accuweather forecast. >> meteorologist mike nicco here. >> hi everybody. it's not summer but it looks like it from our exploratorium camera. pier 15 as the fog is getting thicker over san francisco. we have fog over the san mateo bridge also. it's especially thick when you get to the west side on the peninsula. so most of us a foggy commute this morning with rain on the way. cold showers, look at that snow level. 3500 feet tomorrow. the next storm is trending drier. check out the storm. the center of it. it's so powerful. it almost looks like it has an eye like a hurricane. it's nearly 2500 miles of influence from the provinces of canada down to near hawaii. we're stuck in the middle here. so from now through 9:00 our best chance of steady rain is moving into the north bay.

there will be random showers ahead of that. watch what happens from 9:00 to noon. rain moves into the east bay, into the peninsula. maybe not quite to the south bay yet. but after noon, it moves down there. notice when the initial line goes through. there's more developing behind it. and that will stay through about 9:00 and then it turns over to scattered showers. that will be -- if we have lightning or thunder, this is where it would be. as we head towards tomorrow, you can see scattered showers through the morning commute up until the evening commute ends. then it's over. let's take a look at your rainfall. this morning, anything measurable, towards the end of the commute, it's the evening commute we'll get the most rain. about .15 to a third of an inch to the south bay to the north bay. tomorrow the showers, they'll be over when the sunsets. now leading to a cold morning. maybe a little frost inland. more sunshine saturday and then just a 1, a light on the storm impact scale for sunday, monday and wednesday. hi, sue. you have good news? >> good news, yeah.

b.a.r.t. recovered from an earlier delay running on schedule. 49 trains on time. cal trains moving fine up and down the peninsula and ace trains number 1 and 3 out of stockton on schedule this morning. we have a sigalert out there. it's an overturned vehicle south 101 messing up the southern marin commute. headed into the golden gate bridge because of two right lanes blocked. it's been there over an hour or so. there's no estimated time of opening. you're back towards marin city. give yourself extra time this morning or take larkspur ferry or sausalito ferry. they're scheduled to be on time this morning. maybe a little behind due to the fog. thank you, sue. silicon valley buzzing about apple's decision to build a new campus. >> the group is calling it a big win for the silicon valley even though apple ceo tim cook says it won't be built in california.

could dust them with a little snow. big booming thunderous breakers through 4:00 tomorrow afternoon. take a look at this video. the ground crumbling around a three-story hillside home in malibu. you can see a landslide already ripped apart a fence along the rear of the house. engineers aren't sure if that slide is caused by recent rain or by a faulty sprinkler. in any case, they say the risk of the home sliding is small. but inspectors have red stagged it as a precaution. it's hard to believe we're still telling people not to eat laundry gel pods, but we are. the people making these ridiculous youtube videos are now off of the site. >> wee first told you about the videos going viral on abc 7 mornings last week. now, youtube says its community guidelines prohibit content that encourages dangerous activities that have a risk of causing physical harm like eating poison. it was last year when the disturbing videos first appeared

on reddit and twitter. young children had been attracted to the colors and tried to eat golden gate park get greener. the city broke groun ond a treatment facility. the wastewater will be used to irrigate golden gate park and several golf courses. the sites are currently being irrigated with drinkable water that will be saved for the city's drinking water supply. the change will save up to 2 million gallons of drinking water a day. the makers of krispy kreme doughnuts looking to introduce a new flavor and they want you to help decide. >> from now until monday, you can vote on which mouth water glaze will cover their doughnuts. you need to choose between blueberry, caramel, lemon and maple. the website allows only one vote per day. last year they turned the doughnuts green to celebrate st. patrick's day and a chocolate glaze to celebrate the eclipse.
