to mid-50s at 7:00. how is the commute this morning, sue? >> it's a rough one from marin county. we had an earlier sigalert out there still. it is in the cleanup phases. it is an overturn blocking the right lanes. one right lane is the only lane closed. south 101 before spencer. the backup is towards marin city and slow and go with speeds less than 20 miles an hour. once they get that cleaned, it is hopefully early enough that it can recover. expect significant delays coming into the city from marin right now. thank you, sue. developing nous news. immigration crackdown sparked fear in bay area immigrant communities. >> now, advocates, volunteers and politicians across california are getting prepared. we're live with more in san francisco. >> janine. >> i.c.e. officials won't talk about this. but the attorney general will

speak about the possibility of i.c.e. raids. this is in response to a report from the san francisco chronicle which according to a source says that u.s. immigration officials are preparing for a major sweep in the city and in other areas of northern california. it goes on to report that federal agents are looking to arrest more than 1500 undocumented people. the story has created fear in the community. >> we're going to have to reach out to our community and say, send your children to school. you know, go to work. don't let them win. >> activists and politicians say they believe california is being targeted because of its bold sanctuary city policies which aim to protect immigrant communities. san francisco supervisors we spoke to are standing together against any attack on their city. now, the attorney general will be speaking at a 11:00 a.m. there's going to be a news conference. he's also going it to be reminding employers about what their responsibilities are under california law.

reporting live from san francisco, janine dela vega, abc 7 news. democrats are fighting for a daca deal with just one day left before potential government shutdown. state officials are urging d.r.e.a.m.ers to renew their applications immediately. >> california attorney general javier becerra joined california community chance lollors to say they want to help students renew their applications. >> a deal to protect the d.r.e.a.m.ers is needed to keep the government open past tomorrow. then they come to school every single day not knowing if on the way to school they're going to be detained. this is no way to treat human beings. >> the department of homeland security is currently accepting applications. the cost just $495. education leaders say there may be programs to help assist

students for the renewal fees. stanford university, students say they were drugged. the alleged perpetrator has been issued a notice of investigation. that bars him from contacting anyone from the party and it bans him from campus and stanford-owned property. >> according to the stanford daily at least seven students were drugged at the sigma chi house. the student is a student at dartmouth university in new hampshi hampshire. they're working with local authorities and the university. the chp officer whose legs were broken in a chain reaction crash on highway 4 has gone through a successful surgery. the highway patrol posted this photo showing him hours after the crash monday night. still wearing his helmet. lenway was responding to a crash in concord when the chp says tammy walker slammed her suv into his motorcycle. lenway was pinned under a truck. walker was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

an olympic bronze medalist figure skater is much happier this morning after her ice skates and costumes stolen in san francisco were recovered. marissa castelli and her family were eating dinner at a restaurant in japan town when her costumes and skates were stolen from a rental car. sfpd received numerous tips from the public. the fact that the items were one of a kind made things easier. >> due to the distinct nature of the items taken, that helps out the investigation because you're looking for something so unique. >> without them, i feel incomplete. at first i was just like, oh, my god, this is the worst thing that could possibly happen to me. >> but now that nightmare over and castelli tweeted, thank you, thank you, thank you san francisco police. the city is in the midst of a car burglary epidemic and she was one of the victims. the highway patrol wants to hear from you if you've witnessed anyone throwing objects or shooting at buses carrying apple and google

employees. you're looking at one of the five chartered buses damaged tuesday in woodside. the attacks have taken place along interstate 280. buses are going to travel different routes for the time being as a precaution. that could delay riders ziefrpts blood banks here and across the country are facing a crisis. >> there's been a drop of healthy donors. they need your help. according to the blood donors, donations are down 13% since the beginning of the year. part of the reason is that earlier than usual flu season. centers are calling people and asking them to come in to give blood. >> it's a great way to spend your lunch-hour. donate blood, platelets, whatever you can. know that somebody is getting helped. >> feels nice to save lives when you donate your blood. you're saving other people's lives. it's good for the community. >> roughly 35% of the nation's population is capable of

stop what you're doing and look at this time lapse video from overnight. crews in turkey working to remove a plane that veered off a runway and over a cliff last weekend. they were able to lift this boeing 737 with cranes and this was the time lapse here of their effort. we were watching it in the newsroom. pretty fascinated.

one of the two pilots told investigators that the right engine of the plane suddenly started to speed up pushing the plane towards the sea and miraculously no one was injured. it originated in the turkish capital. but, again, they're fine. reminds me of that old movie. airport '77 or something. they had to bring it off the bottom of the ocean. almost the same way. anyway, saw that a long time ago on one of those back channels. there are a few 40s. our thickest fog right now between hayward and towards union city on 880 near whipple road in san andreas drive there. as we broaden out, it goes to san carlos. it's foggy everywhere even in the south bay. we're starting to get fog to develop. warning until 4:00 tomorrow. stay out of the water.

of these drones. that's amazing. >> it's incredible. consumer alert this morning to tell you about. the berkeley police department saying scammers claiming to be police officers are calling people to demand money. here's what's tricky. crooks have found a way to make their phone number appear legitimate. like it's coming from the berkeley p.d. the scammers are threatening to arrest people if they don't pay. the department says do not fall for this. they do not want you to give out any financial information over the phone. officers are not making these phone calls. the department issued the alert after receiving more than a dozen calls from concerned citizens. warriors superstar kevin durant has a new team. before you freak out, we're talking about a new digital team. youtube is nounsed it's partnering with durant to expand its original sports content. his youtube channel gained a lot of traction and the company is hoping to build a network for

athletes. he has a series called parking lot chronicles with his teammate. durant has dabbled in tech investments. a lot of them have been successful. >> that's a smart guy right there. let's go to sue with a look at traffic. >> the san mateo bridge where the chp lifted the fog advisory. it's a busy commute towards foster city from hayward. a 20-minute drive. it is hazy but visibility remains pretty good. better news over the waldo grade. we had that earlier sigalert that had been out there with an overturn in several lanes. it's been cleared but still some slow traffic residual remains because those cones are still lit in the roadway and we're looking at some improvement of speeds but still back towards mill valley making your drive into san francisco from marin county. we're going to be back with a look at your tahoe ski report in a couple of minutes after mike. all right. we'll talk about our wet weather and then some of the snow coming up to tahoe later today.

look at the fog northbound and all the traffic heading southbound on 80. here's a look from the other side. you can see, well you can't see. but it's important. the bay bridge, only about a mile away here on the embarcadero across from the exploratorium at pier 15. foggy start, rainy ending today. scattered chilly showers. snow level down to 3500 feet. future storms are weakening. the thicker clouds moving in. there's a few sprinkles possible. the steady rain is still a couple of hours away. you can see it there. it's with the cold front. that cold front is going to come through today and kick up the wet weather. from now until 9:00, the best chance of steady rain in the north bay. you see scattered showers around the bay at that time. from 9:00 to noon, the rain fills in just about everywhere except for the south bay and during lunch it starts to move into your neighborhoods. there may be a lull at 4:00, but in the secondary push of scattered showers moves in during the evening commute. that will be the case.

these showers are going to move from northwest to southeast as the colder air comes in and wrings out any moisture that's left. as these head to the southeast, they'll bump into our neighborhoods and they do that up until 5:00, they could leave a dusting of snow on our higher elevations. we're going to get a third of an inch of rain in the north bay to .15 in the south bay out of this one storm. 30s and 40s saturday morning. a little bit of frost in the deepest valleys and lighter snow for sunday and monday. we have a winter storm warning starting at noon today up in the sierra. let's turn it over to sue to see how the ski conditions are. >> this is your toyota tahoe report. we're happy to have this as the first one of the season. this is the perfect time to get you up there. as mike said, after noon, we have the snow conditions. right now, 89 is looking great. there are no chain requirements on 89, 80 or 50 to squaw alpine or to north star or heavenly. they're looking to increase

these base levels. you might imagine, you can see the drive times here, 3 hours and 15 minutes to squaw. 3 hours and 20 minutes to north star and heavenly is a nice smooth drive. sugar bowl, three-hour drive. no chains immediatneeded to sie tahoe. kirkwood has a 36 base. they're all starting to get more base levels with snow starting at noon mike says. at the higher elevations. then your drive times after the sunsets will be a little bit tricky because that's when it will start sticking to the roads. that is your toyota tahoe report for this season. guys. >> botox not just for wrinkles anymore. this morning a new hope for those who suffer from teeth grinding and jaw clenching. a new study funded by botox looked at injections as a treatment option. the small study found that four weeks after the injection, those who received botox reported

let's talk about the rain. we could have measurable rain from hoof man bay, san francisco, richmond. after that, it takes over the rest of our neighborhoods and we'll have wetness on the roads. it's going to be a slippery evening commute. by time we get to tomorrow evening, there you go. up to a tenth of an inch on the peninsula. quarter of an inch for the rest of the bay. up to a third of an inch in the north bay. i'll have a look at the high surf advisory. the storm is coming sunday and monday. it will be weakening. i'll see you with that in a few minutes, reggie. first stationless bike sharing system will debut. jump bicycles will also offer electrical assisted devices. it will help you pedal up the hill. being stationless means you'll be able to park your rental at a bike rack or in the section of the sidewalk closest to the street known as furniture loading zones.

australian researchers got the surprise during expedition. >> i love this video. they were minding their own business when a penguin shoots out of the water right on to their boat landing on his feet. it takes a few seconds to figure out what's going on before. then he jumps back into the water. apparently, eight different curious penguins jumped on boats on board their boat to check out their work for the day. the team actually tweeted the video. it's obviously going viral. with the #just another day at the office. zooifrmt. really cute. the california academy of sciences, a curator told me she goes home every day and the apartment smells like the penguins. >> they're cute from behind the glass. >> thank you. next at 6:30, b.a.r.t. hits another snag with the new fleet. make sure to check your bank accounts. wells fargo admitting

for today. we'll have rain and showers, chilly showers tomorrow. don't forget about the thunderous waves that are breaking along the beaches until 4:00 tomorrow afternoon. we talked about the stray shower possible. sue pointed this out to me. i appreciate that. there may be one on the richmond side of the richmond-san rafael bridge. the steadiest rain is moving into lake and mendocino counties. my 12-hour planner. i think it will stay there until 7:00. for the rest of us, by noon, it will be after noon in the south bay. all of us are wet by 4:00. by 7:00, it turns over to scattered showers. temperatures in the 50s. the fog is moving around. so the visibility is hampered if you're in it. we couldn't see the bay bridge a minute ago, but traffic is moving nicely. a lot of brake lights on the san mateo. it's squeaking by to the san mateo side of things for a 25-minute drive. overall, your traffic flow, you can see the red and the green.

fog on the map headed to the east. better news out of marin county. an earlier sigalert has been cleared. we'll chaeck that in a couple o minutes. this is just in from the live desk. amazon released the short list for the new headquarters. the bay area is not on the list. 238 proposals were sent in from across the u.s., canada and mexico, including san jose and a joint proposal from san francisco, oakland, fremont and richmond. none of us got it. all of them vying for the new amazon campus and 50,000 new jobs that come with it. again, we're not on the short list. >> no, we're not. who made it? among them, atlanta, austin, boston, chicago, dallas, denver and then los angeles is the only california city on the list. we will have the full list on our website, abc7news.com. you can check it out. amazon expects to pick the final

location sometime this year. we're going to move on to local news. a family dealing with horrible grief this morning. they lost their 4-year-old daughter after a driver in antioch crashed into them. >> simply heartbreaking. according to police, the driver responsible was running a red light and also running from the sheriff's office. amy hollyfield is live in antioch with more. amy? >> reporter: hi, good morning, jessica. you have to see the video of what the truck looked like after the collision. take a look. this video was taken just after the crash. a woman and her two young children were inside the silver truck. she and her 2-year-old daughter are in the hospital. her 4-year-old daughter was killed. a stolen pickup truck crashed into their truck. police say the driver was trying to escape officers. it happened at somersville road in antioch at highway 4. he had just exited. witnesses say it was horrific to hear, that it sounded like a

bomb went off, the impact was so strong. >> my husband was on the motor home and he said the truck went on its side and debris flew all over it and exploded all over the place. >> police arrested 23-year-old noe saucedo of pittsburg. his bail set at just over a million dollars. officers have not released the names of the victims. reporting live in antioch, amy hollyfield. abc 7 news. >> amy, we feel so sorry for the family. an earthquake centered near the geysers. this earthquake registered magnitude 4.2. we haven't received any reports of injuries or damage. cal student will begin classes again on monday after being released from federal custody on a visa violation. 20-year-old luis mora walked with his girlfriend and attorney away from otay detention center. he was arrested last month at a

checkpoint after his girlfriend made a wrong turn leaving a party. >> grateful to be here and to be able to fight my case to remain in this country which i call home, despite not having legal papers yet, i call home. my heart. >> the colombian native was brought to the u.s. on a tourist visa by his mom seven years ago. he's not eligible for daca status. it's unclear what will happen to him long-term. mora's next court date doesn't happen until next year. jury selection begins for a man charged with not leaving an evacuation during the north bay fires. evan newman and his brother were trying to protect what used to be their family home a few days after the firestorm. they got arrested, went to jail and paid a thousand dollars bail each. last week, mark pleaded guilty because he says he's the sole support for his family. he got three years probation and 180 days of community service. evan pleaded not guilty and plans to fight the charge. he says he was not given a direct order to leave.

evan faces six months in jail if he's convicted. happening today, the riverside county parents suspected of holding their 13 children in torturous conditions are due in court to be arraigned. an abc news learned that david and louise turpin will be represented by attorneys from the county public defender's office. the children ranging in ages between 2 and 29 remain in the hospital recovering from malnutrition. child protective services says it has received calls from around the world from people who want to financially help these children. a fund is being set up for them. for now, the donations should go through the corona chamber of commerce. b.a.r.t. dealing with another glitch in its fleet of the future. the officials say new trains are coming this year. >> b.a.r.t. has been running test trains for several months. fail tests happened last year. that delayed bringing the trains online. the state puc has to sign off on

those. puc inspectors were on board when the tests happened. >> all went well but there was one failure to open. i'm sure that wasn't a political statement on the part of the doors. >> we're going to wait until everything works. it's frustrating that the goals have not been met. >> did she say it wasn't a political statement that the doors didn't open at berkeley? i guess they got jokes. b.a.r.t. riders will see the new trains and passenger service this year. b.a.r.t. has taken delivery of just 20 cars. they hoped to have 60 in service by the end of last year. let's talk temperatures first. we'll go down into the south bay where we've got upper 40s to low 50s in most neighborhoods. about 53 in san francisco. the warm spot. pretty much we go from 47 in lafayette to about 52 in newark, a wialameda and san francisco. we'll show you the san mateo blij.

the ebb and flow, the fog, it started o move down away from the bridge. it could be back at any time. here's a look at the south bay where we're driving through fog and also haze. visibility down to one mile in some areas. 2 in others. the thickest fog in hey word, especially at whipple drive. let's take a look at 280 at 17. on the roads today, morning fog and then afternoon to evening rain. umbrella needed especially this afternoon for mass transit. even a little bit of drizzle in san francisco. thank you, janine de la vega for tweeting me about that. around the bay, foggy, then wet. here's a look at the high temperatures. it will be cooler from 53 in lakeport to santa cruz at 59. it's going to be colder tomorrow morning. look at those mid to upper 30s around lakeport, ukiah and cloverdale. the rest of us around 40 to 49 degrees. we have a chance of snow also out of this storm. take an hour by hour look at it

before you buy your weed to make sure it's safe tonight on abc 7 news at 11:00. next week, university of california regents may vote on another possible tuition increase. the regents are considering a 2.5% hike, which, if approved, would start next fall. that would amount to about $300 more for students in the coming academic year. the regents approved a similar increase just last year. tomorrow is the deadline for congress to come up with a spending deal to avoid a government shutdown. house republicans are moving ahead with a vote on another short-term extension. the government is currently operating on its third temporary funding extension and it's unclear if there's enough votes to pass a fourth. republican leader mitch mcconnell is putting the blame on the president for a deal not being reached. >> as soon as we figure out what he is for, then i would be convinced that we were not spinning our wheels. >> the president rejected a bipartisan senate proposal, calling it horrible and very,

morning, very important news if you're a wells fargo customer. you want to check your banking accounts right away. a problem with the bill pay system drained the accounts of some customers. it was a glitch that led to some bill payments being processed twice late yesterday. it left some accounts overdrawn. some customers say they got e-mails telling them their checking accounts had nothing in them. and then customers jammed the bank's service lines. people who finally got through were told their accounts would be fixed overnight. wells fargo tweeted, it's working to fix the issue and does thank customers for their patience. it is 6:48. time for your morning money report. another record for the stock market. it could continue today. the dow closed above 26,000 for the first time yesterday after a gain of 332 points. so here's a live look at the big board right now at the new york stock exchange. trading has been going on for about 20 minutes now. you can see that we are slightly down. tech and health care were the
