our latest winter storm is here dumping rain on the bay area. this is a live picture from the abc7 roof cam in san francisco. you can see nothing but gray skies and we had roads on the embarcadero. up here it's extremely blustery at mt. tam. this is the start of a week that will feature rain almost every day. thank you for joining us. i'm kristin zee. let's get to mike nicco. >> you can see this is the richmond side of the ric

richmond/san rafael bridge. it's been mainly a coastal, san francisco, richmond northward storm. whether it's drizzle in the bay or rain up in the north bay. you can see patchy drizzle as far south as redwood city right now. the storm is slowly sinking to the south, but the steadier rain is still up to the north. as it starts to roll through the rest of our neighborhoods, as you can see over the next six hours, it will be followed by light to moderate showers. there's a slight chance of a thunderstorm over the ocean during the evening and overnight hours. this storm is still light on our storm impact scale because the rainfall impacts will be less than half an inch. we could have dusting of snow on our mountain tops and we'll talk more about the dangerous surf coming up in the forecast. >> thank you. you can track the storm with the abc7 news app. we have live doppler 7 on the app and you can get push alerts to get notices. a pittsburg man is being

held on murder and other charge after the death of i 4-year-old girl in antioch. the man crashed a stolen truck into another truck with a mom and the girl inside. amy hollyfield is live at the county jail in martinez with our first look at the suspect. >> reporter: hi, yes, he is here in the jail in martinez. he declined our request for an interview. we do now have his booking photo. this is 23-year-old who is booked on murder charge and evading arrest. his bail is set at over $1 million. he is accused of driving a stolen truck that crashed and killed a 4-year-old girl. there's a little memorial set up where the little girl was killed in ant yoke stuffed with pink flowers and a pink teddy bear. the girl's mother and 2-year-old sister were also in the truck. they were seriously hurt. they are in the hospital. police say he ran a red light.

witnesses say the crash was so loud, it sounded like a bomb exploding. >> my husband was on our motor home and he said the truck went up on its side and it exploded all over the place. >> reporter: this happened around -- just after 12:30 yesterday afternoon. a sheriff's deputy spotted the stolen truck. he tried to pull the driver over but the driver exited highway 4, then ran the red light. officers haven't charged him that he was under the influence, but we looked up his record and found he's been arrested before. according to public records, he was arrested in 2015 for suspicion of dui. he was charged with driving on a suspended or revoked license. the victims in yesterday's crash have not been released.

the looms government shutdown. today the house is expected to vote on a gop bill to avoid a shutdown dom midnight friday. some democrats and some republicans refused to support the stopgap measure without a deal on d.r.e.a.m.ers. >> reporter: the shutdown showdown continues in washington. this morning president trump asked the pentagon about the possibility. >> could happen. we'll see what happens. it's up to the democrats. >> reporter: on capitol hill -- >> democrats have been negotiating in main faith. >> reporter: -- the main sticking points, a fix for the d.r.e.a.m.ers and president trump's southern border wall. >> build the wall! build the ball! >> reporter: trump rode that campaign promise into the white house, but his chief of staff, john kelly, told the congressional hispanic caucus in fox news that those promises were uninformed. >> there's been an evolutionary process this president has gone through. >> reporter: today trump jumped

on twitter to make it clear. the wall is the wall. it has never changed since the day i conceived of it. the wall will be paid directly or indirectly or longer-term reimbursement by mexico. >> we addressed all the issues the president raised when we had our meeting in the white house tuesday last week. this is a starting point. >> reporter: last night a bipartisan group of senators introduced a bill that will give some funding to trump's wall and address the fate of the d.r.e.a.m.ers. >> i don't want to put these kids through any more hell. i don't want to wait until march 4th. >> reporter: but conservative republicans are moving forward that has a no for d.r.e.a.m.ers. if house republicans get it passed today, it doesn't appear they have the votes in the senate. kenne . california attorney general xavier becerra is holding a

press conference. i.c.e. could plan a mass crackdown. becerra says they hope enforcement activities in the right way. california is a sanctuary state, as you know. we'll have more on the story later today on abc7 news app and abc7 news at 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. a cal student will begin classes on monday after being released from federal custody on a visa violation. 20-year-old louis mora walked away from osa mesa detention facility. he was arrested last month at a checkpoint when his girlfriend made a wrong turn leaving a party. >> to be able to fight my case to remain in this country, despite not having legal papers yet, i call my home in my heart.

child protective services saying it's receiving calls from around the world who want to financially help the children. a fund is being set up for them. the only official donations should go through the corona chamber of commerce. painful cuts are coming to california schools despite governor brown boosting funding in the next budget. the of santa clara county schools says the proposal is not likely to be enough to mitigate the other problems that districts are facing. including the rising costs of benefits, salaries and operations. san jose's oak grove school district still plans to close three to five elementary schools in the fall. the east side union high school plans to eliminate 66 jobs over two years. new this morning, last call. your local bar made soon stay open until 4:00 a.m. today state senator scott weiner is introducing a bill allowing cities to choose to extend alcohol sales from 2:00 to 4:00 in the morning.

last year a different version of this bill was held and not submitted for a vote. the new version applies to six cities that have expressed interest in pursuing later hours, including san francisco and oakland. some bars say it would significantly help business. critics are concerned it could risk public safety. interstate 280 is apparently the riskiest highway for bay area drivers. that's according to san francisco based zen drive. researchers looked at data from cell phone data. that data showed all segments of 280 are risky and it's almost always safer to take highway 101. the deadliest driving times are during nonpeak hours from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. the date tat also revealed the san mateo bridge is the most dangerous bridge during the morning commute while the golden gate is the safest. a new list is out. california is not on it. some of the places are amazon

amazon is narrowing the city -- the list of cities under consideration for its second headquarters. none are in the bay area. the company released its top 20 prospects with the largest concentration in the northeast. san francisco made a joint bid with several east bay cities. san jose made its own separate

bid. amazon plans to invest $5 billion in a new headquarters and could employ as many as 50,000 people. here are a few cities on the list that are not in the northeast. los angeles, atlanta, indianapolis, chicago and dallas. now to the flu epidemic and the new research from san jose state that shows it's easier to spread influenza virus than previously thought. new research reveals we may pass the flu to others just by breathing. they found large quantities of the virus in the exhaled breath of people suffering from flu. abc news has more on the outbreak hitting hard all across the country. >> when i came into his room, he was -- he was kind of on the floor. his eyes were open and he was looking at me. the only way i can describe the way he looked is he looked like a fish out of water. a fish trying to breathe.

>> reporter: the community is setting up a go fund me page for her son, 12-year-old michael, believed to be one of the latest victims of this year's flu epidemic. it's hitting every corner of the u.s. and sparing no one. 40-year-old fitness enthusiast katie thomas was ice skating with her three children. days later she died from the flu. >> it just happened so quickly. we were just in shock. it's been devastating. >> reporter: hospitals are overwhelmed and overflowing. >> it really spiked just after the christmas holiday. we saw record volumes just after that. >> reporter: the cdc says holiday travel ignited the flu epidemic, with people touching their armrest, air nozzle every flight and those germs can last on hard surfaces up to 24 hours. that tray table, a new study found it has 12 times more bacteria, harmful or not, per inch than your toilet set at home. >> they don't have time to wipe every single tray station. so intrinsically the bathroom is

we're on storm watch and the storm is already affecting some places like the peninsula, heavy drizzle, that's caused delays at sfo. pthey're averaging about 40 minutes. here's a look at san rafael. we had a couple hundredths rain. people are heeding the conditions. today, rainy, showers and cooler. tonight, showers, and snow dropping to 3500 feet. and the future storms are weakening a little bit, but it will still produce some healthy rains. leetsdz ta let's take a look as we see the sun line thinning the clouds. the rain will be spreading southward at noon. my accuweather 12-hour planner, drizzle and rain. then it turns over to showers at

8:00. then there's the possibility of lightning and thunder, especially over the storpz -- or for the storms over the ocean during the overnight hours through tomorrow morning. in fact, you can see, that's where they are. because they're moving to the southeast, we'll keep a clans into the morning commute. temps much cooler, low to uper authorities. you can see the drizzle and some of the spotty rain that is around the bay, north of the dunb dunbarton bridge with steadier stuff up north. through the next couple hours, you can see the first push go through, the next push goes through and where are my pause points? what's going to happen is during the commute we'll transition from steady rain over to showers. the showers are going to be over the ocean, with the northwest to southeast flow they could move over land. that will continue up until about 5:00 tomorrow, just when we kick off the weekend, the showers will dissipate.

here we are at 4:00. you can see just about everybody driving on slick streets during the evening commute. overnight, did you see the darker colors up along the coasts. those are the showers and you see them roam inland by 5:00. we'll end up with tenth of an inch to quarter of an inch around the bay and half an inch up north. there's a 1 in 100 chance -- dh came from the weather service -- could reach 50 feet in localized areas. up in the sierra, check it out, noon today the snow starts. 8:00 tonight through 4:00 in the morning, you don't want to be on the roads. that's when the heaviest snow is going to fall. so, probably traveling after noon tomorrow will be best. here's a look at the storm for sunday into monday. rainfall totals still very impressive along the coasts but they taper rapidly in the south bay and inland east bay. here's my accuweather seven-day forecast. you want to go outside? don't have to worry about rain. a little sunshine. saturday's your best bet. we'll see increasing clouds sunday with the rain moving in

during the evening hours and overnight. monday's morning commute will be a mess because most of the rain will have fallen before then. another chance of rain on wednesday. all of those storms will be a one, light, on the impact scale. >> it will be busy for you for the next week. >> and for commuters also. >> thank you. four suspected members of a burglary crew known as the lucky lotto bandits are in custody. police arrested jared messy, ailer an der castillo, and sierra and r. so i so. . 21 are still at large, beltran and aquirre of san joy say. the crew stole lottery scratchers, cigarettes from convenience stores around northern california, including 20 stores in san jose. good news for wells fargo

customers. the bank says it fixed the errors that mistakenly drained some accounts. wells fargo tweeted a few hours ago it's sorry for the issues and its technical teams corrected the errors. it was ate once in a lifetime opportunity and they seized it. the historic way one couple took their relationship to a whole new level.
