this is a big win for president trump. he stuck to his guns and got the democrats to concede to most of his demands, opening the government again with a promise from democrats that they might support a border wall. that would be a huge policy victory for him. democrats, including chuck schumer, they don't feel great. they overplayed their land and frankly it was a bad land and they had to fold it and they did not get much other than to say that the lights are back on. and it will be an intense spotlight over the next 17 days, that is the deadline that democrats are giving republicans to come to an agreement on immigration. otherwise there will be a series of votes where it is anyone's guess. but those 17 days will be filled with issues that haven't been solved for more than 17 years. so not a lot optimism that this will suddenly break the issues around imxwragmigration and muc more. >> the democratic base not happy at all with this.

turning overseas right now to vice president mike pence offering a new timeline to move the u.s. embassy from tel aviv to jerusalem. he told lawmakers that the embassy will open before next the end of next year. there are members of parliament who interrupted pence's speech. they were outraged over the president's decision to recognize jerusalem as the capitol of israel. got to tell you, israeli security forces, they don't play around. that was quick. they were out of there. the u.s. embassy in haiti's capital plans to reopen after it was shut down by a large demonstration. more than 1,000 people protested the comments about haiti reportedly made by president trump. police fired tear gas after some threw rocks at them. they consider the remarks to be racist. the u.s. is now requiring additional screening of cargo on

bound for the u.s. pierre thomas, abc news, new york. the deaths of more than 30 children nationwide are being blamed on the worst flu season in nearly a decade. a 2-year-old girl in mississippi died just days after being diagnosed and doctors say the flu killed a six-year-old girl on friday in north carolina. that was three days after her diagnosis. and in the meantime, a high school is closed today and tomorrow due to a recent outbreak. they say every state except hawaii is reporting widespread flu activity. for the first time we're hearing the 911 call placed by senator rand paul after he was allegedly attacked by his neighbor. court documents claim that he was mowing his lawn in november while wearing headphones when his neighbor slammed him to the ground reportedly over paul stacking brush near his property. >> i was assaulted by a neighbor and i'd like the police to come and investigate and talk to the neighbor. >> where did the assault happen? >> in my yard while i was mowing

another is fighting for her life after a shooting on campus. about 300 people prayed for the 15-year-old girl allegedly shot by 16-year-old boy. the shooting happened in a small town south of dallas. there's no word on the connection between the two students. however one says the suspect has a history of violent behavior. this is the aftermath of a deadly wrong-way police chase. they say a woman stole that silver pickup truck, weaving it through traffic as she went the wrong way on the highway before slamming into other vehicles. the suspect was critically injured. five workers are still missing after a massive oil rig explosion in oklahoma. and at one point one official said everything at the location is on fire. here is marcus moore. >> reporter: the desperate search for five employees who worked in this oklahoma oil and natural gas well now charred after a massive blast. volunteer firefighters rushing

to the scene. >> there was 17 employees i believe that we got out. 5 unaccounted for at the well. >> reporter: first responders and ems are staying back. >> reporter: residents nearby asked to shelter in place. one worker flown to the hospital for burns. everybody else was taken to a safe area to be reunited with family. >> they're shook up. it's a pretty traumatic deal to go through. >> reporter: intense flames keeping firefighters from getting 100 feet from the fire. >> they have extinguished the secondary fires. the primary fire on the wellhead is still burning. >> reporter: officials here in oklahoma have been keeping us quite a distance away from the scene where this is unfolding. they had a quite a fight on its hands.
