sue hall and lisa argen in. no wet roads this morning. that's a welcome surprise. >> the tradeoff some fog of it's dense in our north and east bay valleys. live doppler 7. the visibility reduced to nothing in petaluma, a quarter mile santa rosa. three-quarters of a mile. six miles in livermore. here is the plan, 7:00, we're in the 40s north bay. mid-40s elsewhere. it will take until 11:00 until we see the fog clear. mid-50s by noontime and then we'll see numbers top out around 60. 40s for the overnight temperatures or 7:00 tonight and then some rain for your wednesday. sue? >> a light early morning commute this tuesday. a look at the east shore freeway getting busier as you make the merge when 580 on to 80 there past golden gate fields and into the mcarthur maze and taking a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. minor delays of the cash paying lanes. otherwise looking good all the

way to san francisco moving at the limit. green is good. some slowing out of tracy. orange means fog for your early morning commute. as lisa has been saying, some areas with limited visibility. lingering road work. traffic here north and southbound, various lanes are blocked between 66 and washington or vice versa for the reverse direction. hi, everyone. we do want to start with breaking news. you may even have seen it on your phone this morning within just the last hour. a tsunami warning was canceled for the west coast. that's gone now. also warning for the coast of canada and alaska is gone. only an advisory still in place right near the epicenter. a 7.9 magnitude earthquake in alaska actually triggered a tsunami and that's what led up to all of this. it will not be an issue for us but it did not stop authorities

in the bay area from preparing. in fact, abc 7 news reporter tiffany wilson is live for us in santa cruz. tiffany? >> reporter: good morning, jessica. very good news for everyone here at the yacht harbor. look at the water behind me. it is very calm. this is just hours before the tsunami watch. the biggest waves were expected to hit here in santa cruz. it was a scary morning as i mentioned for folks who live onboard. everyone should be prepared. that was a wake-up call many did not want to hear because they are on edge from the last tsunami that wreaked havoc in 2011. today the national weather service says the west coast will be spared from damage and destruction. they turned off the gas to alleviate any potential fuel

leaks and alerted staff like the harbor patrols and brought them in as needed. now the biggest waves are still supposed to hit between 5:30 and 6:15 this morning. again, the tsunami watch canceled for the west coast and that is welcome news. tiffany wilson, abc 7 news. tiffany, thank you. 5:04 now. chp is launching a dui zero tolerance campaign in response to the recent accidents that have injured officers and left one dead. dozens of people gathered at san jose city hall for a vigil honoring victims of deadly traffic crashes. the wife and daughter of andrew camilleri received a plaque recognizing his service. officer camilleri was killed on christmas eve by a suspected impaired driver. >> i don't get to see him on a daily basis. someone made a very poor choice. we're all grieving. we might as well grieve together

and be each other's comfort. >> chp's enough is enough campaign runs through the end of the month. officers on the lookout to stop impaired drivers before they hurt themselves or others. the family of a man accused of causing a crash that killed two girls says he is related to the victims. abc 7 news was in martinez where he made his first appearance in court yesterday. police say he ran a red light and slammed into another truck. a 4-year-old and 2-year-old died in the crash. his girlfriend says he has a little gil of his own and his family says they are distantly related to the cardozas. his sister did not want her face shown. >> even if it was family it hurts because it's a family that's been struck by a straj did i and nothing or anything we can say or do can bring that back. >> he loves his daughters. an officer called me and told me the only person he wants to talk

to are his daughters. >> saucedo's family says he is not a criminal and his behavior changed after he started using drugs. as it 5:06 now. an owner was accused of sexual harassment is planning a news conference. >> one of six employees who resigned. hayward's attorney tells abc 7 news she can no longer endure the toxic environment. last week several employees demanded the owner divest from his company or they would quit. hallowell has denied the allegations by 17 employees. a youth pastor is accused of sending sexually explicit photos to a 13-year-old girl. they arrested 24-year-old luis cruzcruz last week. he sent several photos of himself to a girl who was a member of his congregation. evidence on the suspect's phone suggests he may have sent pictures to other minors.

bill cosby is back performing, and you're looking at video of this performance. the 80-year-old took the stage at a jazz club last night. this was his first public performance since may of 2015 when he became involved in a sex abuse scandal. cosby, who is legally blind, said he wanted to perform so he could enjoy being with his friends and people who turned out to see him. cosby's first trial on charges he drugged and molested a woman at his home ended with a hung jury. the city of san francisco has tentatively settled a federal lawsuit. the family of a guatemalan immigrant who shot and killed in 2015. perez lopez's parents filed a suit alleging eyewitness accounts and other evidence did not support the sfpd's explanation that officers fired on perez lopez in self-defense. they say officers responded to a report of a man allegedly perez lopez wielding a knife chasing another man near folsom and

24th. san francisco police are praising three good samaritans for coming to the aid of a gas station store clerk. >> one of those is a homeless man. here's reporter lilian kim. >> reporter: jesse green can often be found at the shell gas station on turk and franklin street earning what he can washing windows. last week he saw something terrifying unfold right before his eyes. security camera captured the moment when a man pinned down the gas station clerk and began strangling her. >> when i went inside and he's laying over -- has covered like the jacket, you could barely see her unless you looked hard. >> reporter: green tried to pry the man off but it took him and two other men to pull away the attacker. >> he was locked. he wasn't going to let go. the other guy pulled off one arm and i pulled off the other or something like that. and he just left, just like that. >> reporter: when officers arrived the suspect was no longer here but they eventually found him across the street

thanks to witnesses who spotted him. 30-year-old brian has been booked on charges of aggravated assault and burglary. police are calling three men who came to the woman's aid good samaritans. green, who lives in a tent down played that description. >> aren't we all? naturally we have to help each other when we see stuff like that, right? >> reporter: as for the clerk, she hasn't returned to work, but soon after the attack green said through the tears she was able to say thank you. in san francisco, lilian kim, abc 7 news. 5:09 now. happening today the san francisco board of supervisors will take up a measure to change columbus day to indigenous people's day, something the italian community considers a slap in the face. a number of tribal organizations want san francisco to follow suit. they point out they were here

him. at the time police saying the officer feared finch was reaching for a weapon. but no weapon was ever found. coming up at 7:00 a.m., we'll hear more from the finch family. with your "gma first look," kendis gibson, abc news, new york. another woman overboard. carnival cruise line says a 44-year-old woman missing after falling from a cruise ship into the gulf of mexico. this happened sunday night on a "carnival triumph." the ship was on the second day of a five-day cruise when she fell from the deck. that incident comes days after a different woman died after falling from the balcony of her cabin on the carnival heading to the bahamas. the search continues for five people missing after the drilling rig exploded. >> this was the scene early yesterday morning in quinton, about 100 miles southeast of tulsa. flames and smoke from the

explosion at a natural gas site could be seen for miles. 22 people were on the rig. one was flown to the hospital for burns. the fire is out now. crews are still on scene in case the rig reunites. former governor arnold schwarzenegger is taking on the trump administration over offshore oil drilling. he tweeted out, don't touch california. if you want to drill do it off mar-a-lago or better yet look to the future. follicow california's lead, go green and we can all breathe easier. if you're thinking of installing solar in your home and getting more expensive. solar panels mostly come from china. 50,000 to 60,000 american jobs could be at risk. in san francisco new builders are going to take a hit. the city requires all new buildings with ten floors or fewer to use their roof space for solar panels. it's 5:18. never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. we are joined by meteorologist lisa argen.

over the high rise. about a 40-minute drive from tracy up the altamont pass and into dublin/pleasanton. orange on your screen in the north bay represents fog for your commute this morning so heads up there. lisa has been talking about limited visibility. the broadway tunnel is closed for cleaning. that should be picked up about 6:00 a.m. this morning. there is a detour in place. i took it a couple hours ago and it's pretty easy to follow. not shaving much time off your commute. they'll have that picked up by 6:00 and we'll check back. >> thank you, sue. happening today a bay area based bike rental company is expanding to the east bay. line bike will deploy throughout the business center in walnut creek. the dockless bikes are enabled with gps, wireless technology and self-activating locks. riders can park and pick up the bikes basically anywhere. the company operates in south san francisco and alameda. 5:21 now. this is so cool. researchers discovered a way to

good morning on this tuesday, january 23rd. it is 5:9 a.m. >> mike and alexis off today. you're never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. it is a foggy start, lisa. it certainly is in the valleys that will clear by mid morning. you can see all the clouds around, quarter-mile visibility from napa, less than a mile in petaluma and santa rosa and fairfield impacted. concord doing better at five

miles. livermore six miles. we are looking at 30s and 40s. 50s by noontime and 60 in the south bay. it should be a nice afternoon with partly cloudy skies. 40s for the evening hours and as we look live right now from our sutro tower camera, fog not much of an issue in san francisco. sue? we will take a look outside right now and the east shore commute along the east shore freeway according -- right by golden gate fields, and on into berkeley and the mcarthur maze filling in nicely but it is moving along. it funnels in to the maze and the bay bridge where traffic is flowing nicely on the san francisco side of the span. as we mentioned your commute from the hercules area into san francisco through the metering lights is beginning to build because of the metering lights, but so far so good. green is great. a little bit of slowing. approaching the bay bridge toll plaza. orange on the upper part of your map means fog for your commute

that lisa has been talking about. we'll check in on those areas in a couple of minutes. a breaking news update if you're just waking up. a tsunami watch canceled for the west coast. you may have seen it on your phone or perhaps even on your television as this was posted on social media. you can see the advisory there -- the watch, i should say, for alameda, santa cruz, monterey counties, for the entire west coast, all of california. it was issued overnight after a 7. magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of kodiak, alaska. residents there were forced to evacuate. long lines of cars could be seen heading out of kodiak. there were no reports of any serious damage or injuries. the earthquake actually hit in the gulf of alaska. you could see a little bit of rattling in some homes nearby but was 170 miles away from the city of kodiak, happened about

1:30 this morning. the national weather service says now that tsunami was generated by the earthquake but it poses no threat to any part of the west coast. in fact, the warning along canada and alaska has also been canceled within just the last hour or so. there's only an advisory in place right near the epicenter. abc 7 news reporter tiffany wilson is in santa cruz this morning preparing as soon as that watch was issued and they're still wary of some rough waves that could hit later this morning. so she's going to have a live report for us coming up shortly. back to you. >> jessica, thank you. a new push from the group that wanted to keep the raiders in oakland. >> they're hoping that legal action against the nfl will open a new opportunity to keep professional football in the east bay. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live for us at the team practice if a seattle in alameda. amy? >> reporter: hi, reggie. they are relentless. they're not giving up. the we stand with oakland group

will hold a press conference in a few hours to announce plans to try and keep the team here. the oakland raiders are hoping to open their 2020 season in las vegas. they even held a groundbreaking ceremony in november for a new stadium in vegas. but this group refuses to believe the fight is over. they are hinting at legal action pointing to success in st. louis. there's a group there suing the rams and the nfl for the relocation to l.a. it looks like that case is headed to trial. the oakland group says high-profile law firms have expressed interest in representing alameda county in a case against the raiders. the group will announce plans at a press conference at 8:30 this morning. live in alameda, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> all right, amy, thank you. after a three-day showdown the federal government is back to work. >> congress passed a temporary fix to fund the government through february 8th when another shutdown is on the horizon. president trump signed the bill

ending the shutdown for now. democrats had insisted any deal include protections for undocumented immigrants brought to the u.s. as children. they got a promise senate republicans will work towards a solution for the d.r.e.a.m.ers. >> it would be my intention to take up legislation here in the senate that would address daca, border security, and related issues. >> mcconnell made a pledge in front of the world, so we're counting on him. >> the deadline for the daca program is quickly approaching with no solution d.r.e.a.m.ers would start to face deportation when that program ends march 5th. both california senators were among the 16 democrats who voted no. harris and dianne feinstein said they weren't satisfied with assurances for a vote to protect undocumented immigrants. harris tweeted, i refuse to put the lives of nearly 700,000 young people in the hands of someone who has repeatedly gone back on his word. some activists for immigrants
