apparent pellet gun. >> thank you for joining us. she was not hit, but the shots shattered a rear window and dented the right side of her car. she drove home and called the chp. >> the driver tells nbc news that the shooting happened on i-680 near berryessa. >> i didn't know what it was, i thought maybe possible gun fire, but i didn't want to stick around and find out. i did not pull over so i just hit the gas. >> this morning's suspected pellet gun attack happened the week after transport busses carrying apple and google employees also shot with a pellet gun. one person has died after a fiery head on traffic accident in san francisco's mcclaren park. sky 7 was over the scene on

mansell street near vistacoin avenue. one driver died, the other may not make it. the driver of an empty school buzz saw the accident and stayed on to help. one accident happened 3 seconds before the other on eastbound 37 in petaluma. others swerved on the shoulder into a left turn lane in order to avoid the wreckage. san francisco city hall is packed right now, the board of supervisors is deciding whether to appoint an interim mayor until a special election in june. karen tyler is in the newsroom. some are saying this whole process is turning city leaders into contestants. >> you can say that, the acting mayor per the city charter could stay in that position or anyone in san francisco could become

the interim mayor through a process that starts off like a game show. it's a process the board has only used once before, developed by the city clerk and the supervisors, when ed lee was selected as mayor in 2011. >> the mechanism is very similar to the joe jeoparshow jeopardy, all know. >> choosing the interim mayor like answering a jeopardy question begins with the supervise who buzzes in first on their touch screen. nominating the first candidate. if that nominee can capture six votes, it's all over. if not, the second supervisor who buzzed in gets the next chance to make its nomination. and if there aren't six votes, it continues from there. >> there's an old saying, democracy is the worst form of government that exists in the world except for all the other ones. it's a possibility that this is the worst way of selecting a

mayor except for all one ones. >> reporter: david campos was the -- he walked into the chambers expecting one result and got another. >> no one really knows, including the supervisors, the players that are in the middle of it, nobody really knows what will really happen in the end, because there are so many unknowns, so much uncertainty that comes into play. >> reporter: until and unless someone gets six votes, the status quo remains, leaving the acting mayor. three people including two men from the east bay have died beaches in maui in the past week. 50-year-old brian buyer of oakland died last thursday, officials say he was snorkeling alone and was found facedown 15 feet from shore. life guards and medics were not able to resuscitate him.

a 67-year-old castro valley man was also found unresponsive on saturday. his name was not been released. a little bit of shock this morning when emergency officials in san francisco sent a notification out telling residents in low-lying areas to evacuate in case of a tsunami. there was a big earthquake off the coast of alaska. leanne is live with the story. >> reporter: you know what i found out today, kristin? is that people around here are not used to tsunamis, of course, so they aren't really concerned. they even asked me, how do i even prepare for one? according to emergency management, have a to go bag with plenty of clothes, water and a first aid kit for starters. after sending out several notifications at 3:00 this morning, the department of emergency management sent out a tweet, if you are in san francisco and within three

blocks of pacific ocean or five blocks of san francisco bay, prepare to evacuate so you'll be ready if evacuation is needed. >> evacuation is a possibility, start getting prepared if necessary and stay tuned for more information. >> reporter: but few people know what to do in the event of a tsunami or even care. >> i guess run to the highest hill or whatever? >> a tsunami? you get wet. >> reporter: this is a map that shows how long it would take to get to the san francisco bay after an alaska earthquake, four to five hours. >> we usually think of tsunamis coming from japan, from the northwest, coming from alaska. >> reporter: still a few were concerned enough to ask emergency management why the sirens didn't go off in areas like the marina district. through twitter that department responded saying if the alert was upgraded to an advisory or warning and a stoouctsunami was

confirmed, then sirens become an option. in santa cruz this morning, the harbor patrol was more concerned with notifying boats and letting everyone know of the stoouctsun watch. it the tsunami watch was cancelled at 4:00 in the morning with no threat to surrounding areas. >> the abc7 breaking news sent out a tsunami watch when it was issued. voters in the south bay will determine the fate of a judge criticized for his sentence in a high profile sexual assault case. the registrar of voters said enough signatures were collected demanding the recall of judge aaron persky.

turner was sentenced -- an effort to increase protections for women in the tech industry is gaining some momentum at the state capitol. state senators advanced a bill in sacramento today that would change a current civil rights law to clarify protections for people in nontraditional working circumstances. the measure would expand current protections for people who do not work directly with one another but still must maintain a regular working relationship. >> we heard last spring of a number of relationships where women who were entrepreneurs were fryitrying to get the resos necessary to start a business were unable to do so on the basis of sexual harassment. goi ing solar could cost yo even more after trump's 30%

after the collision with the other dive. powerful winds and punishing surf pushed their sailboat into a break water in rodondo beach over the weekend. one of the rescuers jumped into the water and then swam with each man to the patrol boat. both sailors and share dog escaped with minor injuries. their boat was badly damaged. there will be two vistas to observe the bay bring. abc7 news reporter wayne freedman is live in oakland with the story. >> reporter: how many times have you or anyone driven across the new bay bridge and looked out at where the old bay bridge used to be and say gee, couldn't they have kept part of it for historical reference? it turns out that the historical preservation society and caltrans are inside right now talking about doing just that.

maybe you have noted this concrete relic of the old bridge near yerba linda avenue. the question today should caltrans blow them up or remove them as originally planned or keep them and convert one or both into observation decks for public access. both caltrans and the metropolitan transportation commission like the idea. the question, how much would such a project cost? before today's meeting, we began talking about the yerba baena side. >> the oakland shore like i said earlier is a different story, it will actually cost us a little bit more to keep them as opposed to removing them. >> reporter: the project would range in cost between $40,000 to

$60,000. >> so you can actually put on those piers that this is a footprint of the old bridge, i think that's also a benefit. >> reporter: as for the timeline? they're still discussing that. santa clara supervises voted unanimously today to build a new jail in san jose. county supervisors examined the plan to replace the 1950s era south wing of the main jail. county taxpayers will spend $257 million to build the new jail, the state will pay another $80 million. some people want the new jail to offer services for mentally ill inmates. >> i keep wondering when they're going to build a rehab, and build a facility for the mentally ill. >> today's vote came after three former correctional officers received sentences of 15 years

abc7 to rank our storms from 1 to 5, light to severe. and the system moving in here on wednesday, it does rank a 2, a moderate storm on our storm impact steal, not only light to moderate rain, but we're also tracking some light to heavy rainfall. it will be breezy as well, 20 to 25-mile-per-hour winds at time. and not only here, we're tracking significant snowfall november the sierra. temperature-wise, ahead of the storm, it's not all that bad out there. you look at the numbers now, we're mainly in the 50s across there board. 57 in san francisco, earlier san jose we were in the low 60s. 55 santa rosa and 55 in livermore. location is going to be your key as far as your sky condition. more in the way of cloud cover the more north you live. the more south you live will see partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid to upper

40s. future weather showing you 5:00 in the morning, likely the rain is not here for the morning commute. the rain will be moving through throughout the rain. wednesday, 11:00 a.m., this is when we first see the rain falling first in the north bay. you see those pops of yellow and orange, those are the moderate to heavier showers working through with this cold front. by 1:00 wednesday afternoon, we do expect those showers over in oakland to san francisco and approaching the peninsula in the early afternoon. likely not until the evening south bay, that's when you'll see the rain. the showers through discovery bay, through livermore down through san jose, the evening commute will see showers dotting the landscape, so a little bit slower commute tomorrow than we have right now. by wednesday night, the snowstorm will be wrapping up, but there will still be snow. higher amounts in the north bay,

could see a couple of spots well over an inch in the north bay. san francisco, just bay, y bay. we also have a winter storm warning in effect for the sierra, wednesday noon through friday morning, we're going to see some heavy snow, especially over 80 and 50. look at these numbers, expected snowfall, one of our largest storms this season, one of the spots, if not a couple of spots, seei ining 2 to 3 feet of fresh powder. it is rainy and windy in the afternoon for most of us, a scattered shower lingers on thursday and then brighter mild weather moves in and that continues until early next week. being a good
