"murphy brown" making for the ultimate tbt as we say good morning. i'm kendis gibson. >> and i'm maggie rulli in for diane macedo. we begin with the new fall out overnight that centers on larry nassar. take a look at the front cover of "the detroit free press." >> those are all the names of women and girls who made statements against nassar in court over the last week. nassar worked for usa gymnastics as well as michigan state university and now the president of that university has resigned. this morning, the larry nassar sex abuse scandal ending the career of a longtime educator. >> it's just -- time's up. >> reporter: lou anna simon stepping down as the president of michigan state university

where nassar worked as a medical doctor for two decades. simon saying i'm so sorry that a trusted renowned physician was really such an evil person. the resignation comes as the university is being questioned about how the abuse was able to continue for so long and how the school handled the allegations. >> it's sad to know that our school has a bad name and the only national news we've been making is all the cases against larry nassar. >> hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. >> reporter: just hours before simon's resignation, a judge sentencing nassar. >> i'm giving you 175 years. i've just signed your death warrant. >> reporter: the court erupting with applause. his a his accusers say it was sexual abuse under the guise of medical treatment. during the sentencing 156 women and girls, some of them olympic champions, sharing their stories of abuse. >> i can't even comprehend how angry i feel when i think of you. >> little girls don't stay

little forever. they grow into strong women that return to destroy your world. >> reporter: after the heart-wrenching testimony, nassar still wouldn't say the word guilty. >> because you are guilty, aren't you? are you guilty, sir? >> i said my plea, exactly. >> sir, you do not deserve to walk outside of a prison ever again. >> reporter: nassar also making a statement somber and sullen directly to his victims. >> your words these past several day, your words, your words, have had a significant emotional effect on myself and has shaken me to my core and i also recognize that what i'm dealing with pales in comparison to the pain, trauma and emotional destruction that all of you have felt. >> but could not say the word guilty, indeed. nassar will be sentenced next week on more assault counts.

also more than 100 women are already involved in civil lawsuits against michigan state university and usa gymnastics. turning now to the latest developments in the russia investigation, president trump says he's looking forward to speaking with special counsel robert mueller. the president told reporters that he's willing to talk under oath as soon as possible if his lawyers approve and we've spoken to his lawyer overnight. abc's kenneth moton has the latest. good morning, kenneth. >> reporter: good morning, maggie. the press was having an off the record session with white house chief of staff john kelly when president trump dropped in and made some big headlines. the president saying his interview with the special counsel could happen in two to three weeks. president trump left the white house bound for switzerland a couple of hours before appearing eager for a possible interview with special counsel robert mueller. >> i'm looking forward to it actually. >> yeah. do you have a date set? >> just so you understand there's been no collusion whatsoever. >> you would do it under oath. >> reporter: >> i would do it under oath.

. >> reporter: trump's mraur saying mr. trump was speaking hurriedly and that arrangements are still being worked out. it's raising questions about whether his team is zeroing in on possible obstruction of justice. >> there's no obstruction whatsoever, and i'm looking forward to it. >> reporter: another headline from that impromptu west wing q&a, trump eaching to granding citizenship to the d.r.e.a.m.ers after a 10 to 12-year period. >> we want to do a great job with daca. i think it's our issue. i think it's a better issue for the republicans than it is for the democrats. >> reporter: they're back to negotiating a deal to address the fate of nearly 800,000 undocumented immigrants brought to the u.s. as children. senate democratic leader chuck schumer pulled his offer to fully fund trump's southern border wall in exchange for the d.r.e.a.m.ers. >> schumer says the wall is off the table. do you believe him? >> no, i don't. i can tell you this, if you don't have a wall, you don't have daca. >> trump set a march 5th deadline to end the daca program which protects the d.r.e.a.m.ers interest deportation. he now says he's open to

extending the deadline if a deal is within sight. maggie and kendis. >> kenneth moton live in d.c., thank you. republican lawmakers are claiming that a so-called secret society at the fbi may be working to undermine the president. the claim stems from text messages sent between fbi officials peter strzok and lisa page after the election saying they were depressed that trump had won. page wrote, quoting here, are you even going to give out your calendars? seems kind of depressing. maybe it should just be the first meeting of the secret society. it's unclear, however, if that reference was made in jest. in the meantime, wisconsin senator ron johnson says a whistle-blower has revealed that fbi managers held did not elaborate about what they may have entailed. five months of text messages between strzok and page are missing. the justice department blames all of that on a technical glitch, which reportedly affected thousands of fbi phones. former secretary of state john kerry may be ready to run for the white house again.

a newspaper in israel reports kerry strongly considering taking on president trump in 2020 and is urging the palestinians not to give in to trump's demands. we're following some breaking news right now where a commuter train has derailed outside of milan, italy, killing at least two people. several others are seriously injured. officials say two cars jumped the tracks and slammed into each other. some of the photos just coming in right now. rescue crews moved carefully through the wreckage to help shaken passengers escape. back in this country, a sheriff's deputy has been shot and killed in the line of duty north of denver. deputies responded to an assault in progress. one suspect opened fire shooting one of the deputies in the chest. two other suspects escaped. now, this brings the number of gun-related law enforcement deaths in the u.s. this year to four. geologists have discovered a earthquake faultline running through the heart of beverly hills and rodeo drive, home to some of the country's

criminal record and is now facing more charges. a judge could decide today whether the teen suspect in this week's deadly high school shooting in kentucky will be tried as an adult. the school is still considered a crime scene and remains closed today. authorizes have not revealed a motive for the attack. we're now hearing from the parents, though, of 15-year-old victim, bailey holt. >> whatever that kid had going through his mind, i don't know, but if he needed a friend, i know she would have been a friend to him. >> yes. >> and talked to him about anything he needed because that's just the kind of person she was. >> in fact, her parents called bailey a perfect angel who knew she wanted to become a nurse and help deliver babies. several victims of the attack remain hospitalized. lawmakers in florida are pushing a proposal that would allow the state to observe daylight saving time all year long. if congress approves, florida residents would never have to reset their clocks and could enjoy more time in the sun, but it also means that at the height of winter, sunrise would be as
