the nasty nimitz as you might expect this time of morning. we had a wrong-way on the shoulder. wrong-way accident on the shoulder. 87 northbound near 101. seen lots of slow traffic on 87 itself. right now, san francisco police are investigating a crash overnight involving an uber car. abc 7 news reporterjaninede la vega is on the screen. she just got new details on what may have happened. janine? >> reporter: jessica, the cash did take out a traffic light pole and it was affecting the traffic lights here. they were flashing red. so public works just arrived out here. they're working on fixing the traffic lights here on alemany boulevard near crescent. now, take a look at this video. you can see the car. it was damaged pretty badly after it hit the pole. on the windshield there is an uber sticker. we're trying to confirm if the

driver worked for uber. the crash did take place at 1:30. it's unclear what caused the driver to lose control. we are hearing from police they do tell us the driver may have suffered a medical episode while driving. he did have some passengers with him. they were not hurt. but in the video, you can see the driver on the ground being treated by firefighters and paramedics. he was taken to the hospital. the roads were wet at the time of the crash. it's unknown if weather or speed was a factor. reporting live from san francisco, janine de la vega, abc 7 news. it's 6:02 now. michigan state university's president announced her resignation after facing scrutiny handling the larry nassar case. >> he was sentenced up to 175 years for criminal sexual conduct. he work as a medical doctor at michigan state for two decades. he was the former usa gymnastics team doctor also. 156 women and girls shared their stories of abuse during nassar's sentencing. this morning, on "good morning america," former u.s. champion

welcome back at the live desk. a really sad story at least three people dead, ten others hurt after a commuter train derailed in italy. it happened in the heart of their morning rush hour. there were other people that were also injured. minor injuries. this train was actually heading into milan. passengers felt the car shake before it happened, heard a big bang and the car crushed in on them. the vehicles came to a stop at an angle. they came off the rails at a switch track, suggesting that could have contributed to the derailment. an investigation is still going on at this hour. >> jessica, thank you. happening today, the 15-year-old suspect in the deadly kentucky school shooting is expected to be in court. prosecutors say they will ask the judge to designate the accused gunman an adult. there were two killed in the attack. both students 15 years old. 18 others injured. the shooting broke out early

we just had a new accident reported westbound 4 near san marco. that's going to gum up your commute leaving antioch. two left lanes are slow and go in towards concord. back towards san leandro north near the marina, a big rig blocking the middle lane. i am seeing slowdowns at 238 headed up towards san leandro. we have a third of an inch of rain down in san jose. here's a look at 280 at 17. it still looks pretty damp this morning. we'll see sunshine today that will dry things out. it will add energy to create showers and thunderstorms. ocean, that's where the showers will be tonight while the rest of us will become partly cloudy, cooler and a little more fog than we're seeing this morning. the rain stays away through the rest of the month. here's the low that would come through. you can see an appendage of energy swiping down from that. that's why we've had thunderstorms up across the northern part of the state.

morning. amy? >> reporter: hi, reggie. good morning. this stretch of highway will be crowded tomorrow as people will try to get up there to the snow. once you get up there, though, you can expect the chance of white-out conditions while you're driving. so you want to give yourself a lot of extra time. here's a look at the conditions in truckee. it finally looks like winter. residents are thrilled. they're welcoming it. not only is it lovely at bars and restaurants and ski resorts, it translates into business. >> wall to wall come friday and saturday for sure. all this snow, people will be up. >> i love it. beautiful. it's what we live here for. >> look at the truckee ice rink. it's covered in snow. it had to close. there's intense conditions up with snow and winds that they had closed the summit. but those in tahoe say hey, we'll take it, we need the snow. cal trans has a full staff

that's been brought in to get the snow off the road. so you can get there safely. they're doing what they can to clear it for you. chains are required on your tires right now up there in the sierra. reporting live in fairfield, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. thank you, amy. a judge banned parents from contacting the 13 children they're accused of torturing for three years unless they're contacting them through the defense or prosecution's lawyers. david and louise turpin pleaded not guilty to accusations they starved 12 of the 13 children, held them captive inside their riverside county home. their children range in age from 2 years old to 29. the charges against the couple do not include the 2-year-old. the older children are being treated for malnourishment at a hospital. >> if you think about the allegations here, the allegations are that they controlled these kids so much, you can't have those people now talking to them who are as potential witnesses. >> deputies rescued the victims

after their 17-year-old sister escaped through a window and called 9-1-1 on january 14th. detectives believe the family was getting ready to leave california to move to oklahoma. firefighters in novato urging residents to make sure their homes are equipped with working smoke alarms after a fire destroyed a mobile home. fire started just 8:00 last night on panorama and marin valley drive. the homeowner escaped with only minor injuries. crews say damage to the home is estimated at $450,000. a vehicle parked on the property in a carport also burned. firefighters want residents to have working smoke alarms so they can alert them to the early stages of fire. still unclear exactly what sparked the flames. >> thank you. the young woman at at heart of a police sex abuse scandal. dropping a lawsuit against one

of them. jasmine abuslin dismissed her federal lawsuit against richmond police. she accused six officers and the current and former police chief of sexually trafficking her in exchange for police protection an information. abuslin's allegations that she had sex with officers from several police agencies sparked several investigations. she dropped a similar lawsuit against the contra costa shefr i have's department in oakland. they paid her a $989,000 sett settlement last year. students may not face a tuition hike in the fall after all. they're putting off a vote to give them time to lobby for more money. they were going to approve a hike for students from california and 3.5% increase for out of state students. instead, they've bowed to opposition from students and state lawmakers and decided to put off the issue until may. bay area commuters will decide if they want to pay up $9 to cross the bay bridge.

a measure approved for the june ballot would increase tolls by a dollar. it would pay for the extension to santa clara and a cal trans extension and transit center in san francisco. clearing up confusion. this morning the napa county district attorney is trying to reassure property owners sent bills for cleanup. several property owners contacted the fbi, they thought they were receiving fraudulent bills for the removal services. they're preliminary lien notices from subcontractors who performed legitimate debris removal services. it appears they filed the lien notices as a matter of routine. the d.a. says property owners should contact the contractor themselves and make sure it was done by a federal agency. touch of winter out there. not only in the form of some snow and mountains.
