rollover as well. fog is also an issue here. you may want to take 680 to 780 to save a little bit of time this morning. breaking news from the abc 7 live desk. >> hi everyone much want to get you the latest on this crash that happened this morning. it's breaking news out of hayward. this video just into the live desk. our reporter was on scene, sent this over. this is an update on the crash involving a chp patrol car, two officers were inside. and the intersection and on ramp at 880 and a street is actually back open. that opened up just a short time ago. crash happened about 4:30 this morning. the chp was pursuing a truck. refused to stop. the truck actually went through an intersection. the chp then followed but ended up hitting another car. we're told those officers and victims in the car were hospitalized. but that they only complained of minor pain. meanwhile, the chp still looking for the truck that led them on a chase. it got away after the crash.

jessica, thank you. a legal fight is about to begin between a san francisco motorcyclist an the maker of the self-driving car. >> the motorcyclist says a gm autonomous vehicle knocked him over after the car suddenly changed lanes. reporter amy hollyfield live for us with more this morning. amy? >> reporter: hi, reggie. these cars are out here on the streets of san francisco that now they're being called into question in court. a motorcyclist, oscar nielsen says the self-driving chevy bolt started to change lanes so he moved up. then he says the bolt veered back into the lane knocking him over. the police report blames nielsen for passing when it wasn't safe. gm does too, saying "it believes the motorcyclist merged into our lane before it was safe to do so." experts warn, we are a long way from complete automation. >> some of the cars today, they have autopilot. that does not mean the driver

can check out. the driver still has to be in control of the vehicle. >> reporter: there was a backup driver in the car when it collided with the motorcyclist in san francisco. but as he went to grab the wheel, it was too late. while this case plays out, gm says safety is its priority as it develops this technology, which is happening right here at howard and 11th in san francisco. it's in an unmarked office that has a secretive vibe to it. there's no signage out here. it does have a security guard, though, who keeps coming out here to check up on what we are doing here. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. hi. want to get you that update out of switzerland. president trump just wrapping up his speech at the world economic forum in davos. he wrapped up within the last half hour. i was listening in and monitoring this for you. his message on the world stage was america is the place to do business. no surprise.

francisco health department say new cases of flu have slightly tapered off, but they say it's too early to be optimistic. at the health fair in concord, flu vaccines were popular. seven people have died in the influenza virus and the state number at 74. health departments are still recommending you get the flu shot. it can still protect you ooent if it isn't a perfect match. >> not too late to get a vaccine. good hand washing, frequently covering your sneezes and coughs. staying home if you're sick and staying away from sick people as much as possible. >> it's free. as bad as the flu has been, i don't really want to catch it. >> because the flu virus is so unpredictable, health officials warn there could be another surge. be careful. teachers are telling stories of trying to survive in silicon valley. experts think that building triplexes may be one answer. more than 100 teachers attended a town hall meeting in palo

alto. one teacher who lived with her daughter in the den of a one bedroom apartment in san land row with a roommate in the other room says the commute was too much. >> it wasn't feasible or affordable to live there any longer. i actually had to move back with my mom. >> one solution may be the development of triplexes and four-plexes. the idea is that teachers can buy the building and rent out the units to other teachers. a santa clara county supervisor says keeping them close to home benefits everyone. without the headache of driving and getting to lake tahoe, that could soon be the thing. tide pod challenge videos, the number of people taking part in this dangerous trend skyrocke skyrockets. speaking of dangerous, we do have low visibility outside. the rain may be over but the leftover moisture means, look at that, a couple of hundred feet in livermore, petaluma about a mile in napa and santa rosa.

it's 6:09. we have more on the children eating tide detergent pods. despite awful warnings about this, even more people are eating them now. according to the american association of poison control centers, there were 39 incidents on january 16th. by january 22, the number jumped to 86. there's another warning being issued that tide pods, yes, are poisonous. they can kill you. youtube promised to take down tide pod challenge videos and they're reviewing product reviews that encourage you eat it. i used to get soap in my mouth for saying dirty words. this is a lot different, isn't it? 36 in menlo park. we have low to mid-40s about everywhere else on the peninsula. half moon bay at 39. low 40s along the east bay shore. fremont -- 41 in san joez. getting close to freezing in napa at 33. still a little bit of snow

an immigration plan that president trump will send to congress on monday appears to already be dead in the water. basically no one happen by this and for different reasons. first, it would give almost 2 million undocumented immigrants a way to become u.s. citizens. conservative republicans say that's unacceptable. the president wants $25 billion for a border wall and major cuts to legal immigration. they will not support it for that reason. >> it's hard to call it a compromise. it seems intended to sabotage the effort to achieve meaningful legislation for the d.r.e.a.m.ers. >> senator dianne feinstein tweeted, president trump and republicans will not be allowed to use d.r.e.a.m.ers as a

throughout the day. that will keep temperatures below average. my accuweather highlight tonight, a lot like this morning. patchy fog and cool. 30s and 40s no. stoms coming for several days. in fact, it could be a couple of weeks. here's a look at live doppler 7. you can see how dry it is. just the few remaining blips off the shore. >> it's starting to move from the north. high pressure will build in across california. bringing us increasing sunshine. this is as cold as it's going to get for our afternoon highs for the next seven days or so. we'll see more sunshine in the south bay. 58 to about 60 there. we'll see increasing clouds, notice the temperatures will respond. dropping from 57 down to 55 by the time we get to santa rosa. even cooler up around lakeport and ukiah around 50 degrees. radiation fog develops up in the north bay. expect that again tomorrow morning. temperatures in the mid to upper 30s in the deepest valleys. fog in the central valley.

it's trying to move its way into the east bay. temperatures mainly in the 30s in those areas. and low to mid-40s elsewhere. the seven-day forecast. 60s return tomorrow. low to mid-60s sunday and monday and pushing near 70 on tuesday for one of the warmest days. let's turn it back to sue. a lot of snow fell the last couple of days. >> a minimum of a foot as most elevate locations. excellent. this is your toyota tahoe report. currently, we have chains required on 89, 80 and 50. i am happy to have raised these basins significantly since yesterday. so even your drive right now is looking good. the snow is looking even better. we'll take a look at the other resorts. checking in. sugar bowl has a base of 52 inches up top. tahoe, 76 inches and kirkwood now, all of these roadways are

carrying, expecting chains required. maybe later this morning, they'll lift those. right now, you're headed up, you have a pretty good ride but chains or snow tires are required. that's your toyota tahoe report. thanks, sue. this is interesting. if you don't want to make the drive yourself, there will be a maiden voyage offering people an alternative for a weekend get away. tahoe convoy will use charter buses rented from tech companies to shuttle people to the north and south shores of lake tahoe. the buses will drive up on friday night and return on sunday night. it will even get passengers to tahoe faster than driving during highway closures because it has priority shuttle access. tickets, $49 each way. >> when are we requestingoing? >> early earthquake warning system is one step closer to deployment but it may take another three to seven years for cell phone alerts.

now, breaking news from the abc 7 live desk. we are staying on top of breaking news from hayward where a chp cruiser collided with another vehicle. happened on interstate 880 right near the 8th street exit. abc 7 news reporter, janine de la vega is live with details. janine? >> reporter: jessica, the scene is clear now at 880 and a street. you can see the intersection is back open, and so is the off ramp. it was closed for about an hour after a chp patrol vehicle crashed into a car not even involved in this a chase. check out this video at 4:30 this morning, the chp tried to stop a dodge pickup truck speeding near tennyson. officers started chasing it and speeds reached up to 100 miles per hour. the truck exited the freeway at a street. it blew through the red light. it got on to 880. t they were following it, that's when the crash occurred.

>> the officers slowed to clear the intersection. while entering the intersection, they didn't see the other vehicle approaching from the west side here. minor collision occurred in the middle of the intersection causing complaint of pain injuries to all the involved parties. >> reporter: the occupants and chp officers all complained of pain and were sent to the hospital for precautionary reasons. the suspect vehicle got away. the chp tells us that the officers determine whether or not to chase a car based on traffic and weather conditions. they say the traffic was light at the time. but there's still going to be an investigation. reporting live from hayward, janine de la vega, abc 7 news. this morning, president trump is firing back after a new york times report that he tried to fire the special counsel investigating the russia election meddling. >> he spoke this morning at the world economic forum in switzerland. kenneth moton is live in washington with the latest for us. kenneth? >> reporter: good morning, natasha and reggie. we know that reportedly special

counsel robert mueller learned about his attempted firing from other white house officials. >> president trump on the economic stage in davos, switzerland. >> fake news. >> responding to a new report that he tried to get rid of the special counsel in the russia investigation. "the new york times" says after media reports of a possible obstruction of justice case last june, the president ordered white house counsel don mcgann to ask the justice department to fire robert mueller. the sources say trump backed off when mcgann refuse and threatened to quit. >> i've been reading about it from you people. >> the top aide repeatedly denied he's given thought to firing mueller. >> the president has not even discussed that. >> "the new york times" also reports white house counsel argued dismissing mueller would have a catastrophic effect on the trump presidency. blumenthal, one of the

investigators for the russian meddling reacted on msnbc. >> these reports are absolutely stunning, deeply frightening, because they show, again, that the president will stop at nothing to protect himself. >> white house attorney ty cobb responded to the report saying we decline to comment out of the respect for the office of the special counsel and its process. president trump says he's ready to sit down for an interview with mueller under oath. his attorney quick lip responded saying that that's also being worked out. reporting live in washington, kenneth moton, abc 7 news. let's talk about the immigration plan the president is sending to congress on monday. it's already being rejected by democrats, immigration advocates and conservatives. now, it's going to give almost 2 million undocumented immigrants a way to become u.s. citizens. that's a lot more than the 700,000 people in the daca program. conservative republicans say that's unacceptable. the president wants $25 billion

for border security including the border wall. and democrats won't support that. the plan would eliminate the visa lottery system an limit family migration and immigration advocates have a problem with that part. san francisco police putting out a new call for witnesses to this bizarre incident in the castro district. a man drove a van down the sidewalk at castro street last saturday morning. you can see in the video that he sideswiped a deli as bystanders plea with him to get off the sidewalk. i should say plead with him. they arrested the driver. he's charged with aggravated assault and attempted murder. a high school student says her school didn't do enough after her students attacked her in the classroom. >> we have video of the beating. it happened inside pittsburg high school. ida cisneros is the one being punched. she said it started as an ongoing verbal dispute with her

attackers. >> i was hoping somebody would get to me. i could hear somebody say stop, no, don't do that. let me get through. >> it was horrible. it's like ten people around her and not letting teacher to break up the fight. i feel -- i feel bad. >> ida said they expelled two attackers. she wants the same treatment for the other students there. pittsburg unified won't comment on this particular case but tells us in general, any student involved in a physical confrontation faces serious consequences, including but not limited to a suspension from school, possible expulsion or consequences involving law enforcement. just got an update from my buddy coop at kirkwood mountain. he says 20 inches over the last 48 hours at kirkwood. heavenly, about 15 inches. we'll take a look at my accuweather seven-day forecast for tahoe coming up in a few minutes. first let me get you out the door. 39 in morgan hill and also in

the turn. then bunched up near highway 24. got a bad drive. 24 to the caldecott tunnel. we have the typical early morning commute out of the central valley. about a 40-minute drive. it's moderate. better news towards martinez and hercules. earlier accident cleared here. but look at the damage done. very, very slow. we even had slowing in the eastbound direction for a time. i'm still suggesting 680 to 780 until this backup does recuperate from -- flares and debris in westbound highway 4. what do you think of this. b.a.r.t. considering making you pay more during commute times. mixed reaction at a board of director's meeting. some members worry that charging variable parking rates would directly impact working class people. it's seen as way to increase the

transit agency's revenue and reach long-term capital investment goals. stories about ford and the explorers that leak carbon monoxide. there are a growing number of drivers experiencing nausea and dizziness. more than 1400 have reported issues to safety official who is began investigating in 2016. in august, ford blamed the leaks in police vehicles on modifications made to the cars after they left the ford facility. take a look at this. contra costa haz-mat officials say flaring at the refinery -- blue flame there. no community warning issued. level one flaring was called in last night. flaring is a device used to combat excess gas at the refi refine refinery. we're waiting to hear back more. we're also seeing a sign of hope after the wildfires. a battle over breakfast.
