in june you will be asked to vote on a measure of increase of tolls. these phased in toll hikes will be the cost to bridges to ni$9. that is roughly a 50% increase. for a lot of working people, it is a killer. an additional $60 a month for tolls is a significant hit for those already struggling. in 1997 i remember reporting to you on the plan to double the tolls on state run bridges in the bay area to $2. we were told them it would be temporary. of course it wasn't. now at least the politicians don't mislead us with false problems. back then we had to hand over cash money to a toll taker.
