and then the streets. kate larsen joins us with the very latest. >> reporter: actually just spoke to a worker with the city of hayward who tells me that they have cut out the broken piece of pipe, a 12-inch water main break here around 10:00, 11:00 there morning, they're actually waiting for the connector parts to arrive on the scene before they can patch the pipe and pipd in the hole. you can see the ground is caked in mud. earlier in the day, there was a foot or two of water in here. we have a video that shows a rush of water and mud coming down the hill, this is highland boulevard right off mission boulevard. it really hurt about three homes here and of course took out the water service to many homes here in the neighborhood.

the city of hayward maintenance manager says that the pipe that broke is from 1956. three homes were damaged and also a number of cars, six cars had to be towed from around the hole. one of which a neighbor said was actually teetering inside the sink hole. >> we go out and there's a car stuck under the hole. and we go out and saw a lot of water going down. our garage is flooded, our house is covered in water. >> it will be an opportunity for everyone impacted by this file a cla im and the company will make them whole. >> reporter: pg&e crews are all here many of them because it's not just about the water main, there's actually a gas line in the exact same area, so the p

grg & e crews are making sure that none of the debris lands on that and damages that. by 8:00, they hope to have all the water restored to this neighborhood. and they'll have to back fill that hole on monday. so we'll keep you posted throughout the night tomorrow. i'm kate larsen, abc7 news, back to you. sick people were injured in sonoma county when an elderly driver mistook the accelerator for the brake. customers didn't know what was going on. >> naturally i first thought it was an earthquake. and then we just got pushed forward and then we noticed it was a car. and i personally was pinned in, i couldn't move and it was really painful. >> reporter: firefighters had to

cut away parts of the building's wall to get that car out. the building will have to go to architectural assessment to make sure the building is safe. a police officer was struck by a car while breaking up a side show. it happened at marina bay boulevard. cordell, you have more information on th information? >> reporter: the search is now on for the driver who struck him. that side show incident happened at this intersection about 1:00 a.m., a neighbor shot video of the incident. we do want to warn you first, that video is graphic. >> you could hear the noise, it was just crazy. >> reporter: this home video obtained by abc7 news captured a side show early sunday morning in richmond, cars spinning

doughnuts with a big crowd nearby. >> we're waiting down the street, okay, when are the police coming? >> from my windows, i could see flashes when they were sending off fire works. >> reporter: neighbors called 911, by the video you can see officers arriving. several got out of their cars to break up the side show. then a disturbing scene is captured on video, an officer is struck head on by a car trying to get away from the scene. >> he actually landed on the hood of the car, he was narrowly missed getting run over by the other car. >> reporter: narrowly the officer survived suffers cuts and bruises. police want to find the driver who struck the 8-year veteran of the force. the car is described as only a dark colored four-dour sedan. >> it looks like these side shows are completely uncalled

for, illegal, and we need to public to help us out on this one. >> reporter: call richmond police if you can help with any information about this side show. one person died of a heart attack during a condo fire in santa clara. it all started at around 2:00 this morning at the americana complex on clara avenue. they had the fire out in half an hour but found the victim inside. two units were damaged, four people are without a home tonight. a viewer spotted this fire and shot video. firefighters are trying to figure out how it started. sheriff's deputies need your help tonight to try and find a man who robbed a tanning salon in oak creek. the man struck at about 6:30 on thursday night, he threatened the victim with a box cutter. the man left the store after the
