live where you live this is abc7 news. >> shock in the ballet community tonight, a ballet master known around the world is in police custody here in the bay area, accused of child molestation. good evening, i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm dee ann limb in for alma dates. after allegations he sexually abused a child. >> abc7 kate larson spoke with his boss at a daily city ballet school. >> reporter: 54-year-old viktor kabanliaev is in jail tonight after being arrested on friday on a warrant for 16 counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14. >> these incidents occurred a while ago. >> reporter: he says the charges to be filed tuesday are as a ba lay instructor. >> at one point he was in contra

costa county with several different schools and giving private lessons. >> reporter: before his arrest, he was teaching here at the west lake school for performing arts in daily city. the executive director of the school says he teaches advanced ballet to teenagers. five days a week and has never received any complaints. peopleless is in disbelief. he tells me the accusations are completely out of character for him who has been teaching at west lake for almost eight years and has a wait list for his classes. >> i'm concerned that children might be at risk. >> it's pretty scary as a parent. we entrust these dancers with our kids. >> reporter: david's 16-year-old daughter takes ballet at west lake. >> she's been here two years now and we've never had any issues with the teachers. >> reporter: but in light of the news he'll be having a serious conversation with his daughter. in san mateo county, kate larson, abc7 news. >> tonight the chp is looking into whether another tech bus was attacked in the south bay. investigators say they receive a report of a bus with a shattered

window at about 4:30 this afternoon at i-280. the chp says it hasn't located the bus or person who reported the incident. if the bus was indeed targeted, this would be the 6th bus hit in that area in the last month. >> a man's bizarre behavior led to a police chase that spanned roughly 50 miles around the bay area. only abc7 news captured the pursuit today that started in berkeley went across the bay bridge, down 101, across the san mateo bridge, back to the east bay, finally ending in hayward. this is how it all began. a man pulled his truck over on i-80, stood on top of it, and wildly waved a crow bar around kind of dancing. when officers tried to get to him, he sped off. at one point he hit at least 80 miles an hour as clocked by sky 7's sky technology. the chp used a pit move, it's called, to stop the struck and arrested the driver. >> could have hurt a lot of

people today. what do you have to say about that? >> officers say the driver is anthony nelson sur rell of south san francisco and say he may have been under the influence of drugs or acholm. >> we have new developments in a police shooting in san jose. the woman involved is expected to survive. it happened on feller avenue the same street where officers shot and killed an 18-year-old in 2016. abc7 news reporter kay marzullo has details. >> reporter: san jose police officers shot and wounded a woman they said was armed with a shotgun. it happened at a home in theal um rock neighborhood of east san jose. from sky 7 you can see a shotgun in the front yard and ultimately a woman who walks out with her hands up, her hands covered in blood. neighbors are familiar with the woman who lives in the home. they said she sometimes rents out a room. >> i don't know her personally. i just know she has a dog that she walks pretty diligently. and she seems to be pretty

quiet, kind of keeps to herself. >> reporter: sandy sanchez heard the gunfire. >> we knew it dwaz a shot because it was very loud. >> reporter: sanchez was shaken because on july 4, 2016, her son anthony nunez was shot and killed by police at their home just a few doors down. police said he was suicidal and pointed a wep at them. the city of san jose has since hired an independent police auditor in part to review officer involved shootings. aaron has been on the job for four months. >> from my vantage point it is important to come out, and see the neighborhood, get the context, see what's going on. >> reporter: san jose police have not yet said why they were called to the house here on feller avenue. the chief is expected to give more information tuesday afternoon. in san jose, katie marzullo, abc7 news. >> the victim in the brock turner sexual assault case will no longer contribute to a memorial plaque. the university is building at the site of her attack. stanford rejected two quotes from the woman known only as emily doe. those quotes were taken from the

impact statement she read in 2016. stanford said it did not feel the unreleased quotes were appropriate for what is being called a contemplate i have garden. >> new at 11:00, people packed a meeting in fremont over whether to allow mike re breweries in alameda county. supporters say they will stimulate tourism. many don't like the idea. >> you're saying people aren't going to be driving up and down that road drunk? >> reporter: the issue over micro breweries has become so heat ed in fremont sheriff's deputies were brought into this community meeting in case things got out of hand. wineries have flourished in alameda county specifically livermore val. they are decide fog whether to left craft beer establishments also known as micro breweries. >> when you create that type of environment for people you want to i have go them options. >> reporter: there have been 18 public meetings on this proposal. concerns here in fremont are the latest hold up in getting the

ordinance passed. the big concern is morris and canyon road, a single lane rural road in fremont many fear will be used by customers if one particular resident decides to open a micro brewery at his property. at the meeting the owner made it clear he has no plans to do any such thing despite having built a 12,000 square foot barn on his property. >> i'll tell you all, we do not want a brewery on our property. >> reporter: still, many remain unconvinced and are worried that opening up rural land to craft beer makers will make the area worse. >> it's getting crazy. animals are getting hurt. animals are getting killed. >> reporter: the push back from fremont residents will now likely lead to revisions to the micro brewery ordinance, a process that will likely take months. in fremont, lilian kim, abc7 news. >> well, coming up there is an easy way to save money plaps. >> look in your kitchen's garbage bin. the new movement using table scraps to cut food budgets. >> plus new fall out for a south bay grocer caught moving masses

usda inexpecters have now joined the investigation of raw meat delivered to a san jose grocery store unwrapped and in shopping carts. last week photos were posted of men delivering the meat to the 99 ranch market. the meat vendor jim's farm meat out of the central valley says it has fired both of those employees. the usda issued a statement saying it is working with investigators and is committed to protecting public health by ensuring the safety of the nation's meat supply. >> if you want to save money take a look in your trash can. if there are vegetable roots or stems you're throwing away perfectly good food and you are not alone. nearly half of the food in this country is being thrown away and all of that garbage has inspired a new movement. abc7 news anchor kristen sze bites into this trend getting people to eat from root to stem. >> reporter: at the perennial restaurant in san francisco, the food is amazing.

the key ingredients, just about everything. that's because nearly every food scrap gets used in the recipes. >> why should i throw something in the trash that i spent like $5 on, three quarters of it is useful, but we're only using a quarter of it. doesn't make any sense to me. >> reporter: most of the fresh fruits and vegetables get cut up, pureed, dried or made into something entirely different. >> so, for example, the little butsz of brussels sprouts, we pickle those, puree that, dee hydrate the pulp and use that as seasoning powder. >> reporter: fenl scraps make delicious bread, stems top off delicious dessert. from a chef's kitchen to yours, this new trend is getting a lot of attention. >> if you were buying food, great food from a farmers market u uks, you should make the most of it. >> reporter: it's called root to stem cooking. >> the idea is you can use the whole vegetable, not normally what you would buy in the grocery store, the but the stem, the leaves, everything that goes

along with it. >> reporter: whole foods identified root to stem as one of its top food trends for 2018. >> it's a responsible trend, foot waste is a huge issue right now. >> reporter: according to the natural resources defense council, 40% of the food we buy gets wasted. an average household of 4 o four is tossing out $120 of food each month. preventing that isn't as complicated as it sounds. it just takes created thinking. every vegetable can be eaten from root to stem. >> if you look at broccoli, half by weight is in the stem. cut the flour ets off and you can paeel and use the stems for all sorts of stuff. puree it into a soup, cut it up and roast it, you can eat it raw, jewel yen it throw it in salads. >> reporter: carrot stems taste similar to parsley. >> you can blend them up into a pesto. >> reporter: even stems to radishes can add something to your meal. >> wash them like you would

watch out for the morning commute. here's a look at the storm track and while most of the energy is heading into the pacific northwest, all we're getting is high cloudiness. we're going to remain dry over the next seven days. right now those temperatures ranging from the 30s to the 50s, as we take a look at a live picture from the east bay hills camera. it's not going to look like that everywhere. dense fog for the morning commute. dry and milder the rest of the week and near record warmth is coming your way this weekend. your 12 hour planner for tomorrow, dense fog, 30s, 40s, not terribly cold but visibility will be low so just watch out. 50s, 60s, with high clouds at noon. it will brighten at 4:00. temperatures will fall by evening. speaking of falling, light jacket i think will come in handy. most of you will be in the 40s and 50s, but there will be a few upper to mid 30s. fog is going to reduce the visibility for the morning commute. may actually slow it down quite a bit. so, keep that in mind as you make your plans.
