that breaking news it out of hayward where police are looking for a person who ran away after an officer-involved shooting. let's get right to abc7 news amy hollyfield in hayward at west "a" street and harbor avenue. >> reporter: reggie, the most urgent information i need to get out right away is for the residents that live along the royal and "a" street corridor. a shelter in place has been issued because a suspect is believed to be in that area and he is on foot. they want people to stay inside their homes. now, let me show you what happened here in this part of hayward. this is where the shooting took place. we are at west "a" and arbor. look at the motorcycle that's

been knocked over. that officer was on the motorcycle and listen to what he went through. he was trying to pull over an suv that was shooting. the suv finally stopped, went in reverse, rammed the officer. somehow the motorcycle became attached to the suv. the suv went into drive, going forward, taking the motorcycle with him. somehow the officer got free. he did bring out his gun and fired several times at the suv into the windshield. they do not know whether he hit the man inside. this happened outside a retirement home, the hayward village. one employee here heard it all. >> and i heard some gunshots, pop, pop, pop. and i was kind of a little afraid to, you know, to come outside and see, you know, who was -- who was shooting. >> reporter: and now you're looking at a live picture from sky7 of the other scene. this is the royal area and "a"

street, where the shelter in place has been issued. the man did abandon his suv, so he is on foot. he got rid of it on royal street. so, that's why they're focusing on this area, believing he can't get far. they hope they have him surrounded. they don't have much of a description of him other than he's a young hispanic man, possibly around his 20s. that's who they're looking for. they want residents to stay inside and let the police handle it. the officer who was on this motorcycle suffered minor injuries, miraculously after going through all that, they think he'll be okay. we'll stay on this story, especially for those living in hated ward watching this, they say just stay inside for now. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. a 15-year-old boy is in critical condition after a shooting in los angeles. police in the west lake district say another student, a 15-year-old girl is in fair condition. this happened at school at the sal castro middle school. we know at this point a female

suspect is? custody. police say right now the campus is secure, there is not a threat to any more students. right now we do not know the circumstances leading up to that shooting. we'll continue to update that story as we get information. new this morning, part of southbound el camino real is shut down after a fatal crash before 7:00 this morning south spruce avenue. police have not released many deed tails on that crash. police show an suv that has some front-end damage. they have not said how long that street will stay closed. a deadly crash in sunnyvale. sky7 over west caribbean drive earlier this morning. that crash happened around 7:15. it appears to involve a bicycle police say caribbean drive is closed in both directions between boregas and geneva drive. it was a rough commute for some b.a.r.t. riders this morning. there were delays as train had to be single-tracked between south hayward and union city

stations. around 4:45 this morning b.a.r.t. tweeted crews had to fix part of the third rail that got damaged after a maintenance truck derailed. nobody got hurt. b.a.r.t. had to bring in a crane to tow the truck. then 65 feet of damaged rail had to be removed. >> very frustrating. we're so sorry you're late to work or getting your kids to school. the good news is no injuries. wasn't due to any rail defect, which that's something we want to make sure isn't the cause. and that we responded right away, trying to get information out to the public so you can better plan your day. >> the fix was completed around 8:30 this morning. ac transit pus helped get passengers between the stations. most high schools jump at the chance of highlighting the career of an alum who goes on to be a big star. for one palo alto school it's the opposite. it's erasing the mark left behind by actor james franco. we're live at palo alto

school to explain. >> reporter: franco graduated from palo alto high school 20 years ago. they took pride in the fact james franco graduated from the school in 1996. the movie star also maintains connection with the campus, donating artwork and murals and even taught a film class in 2015. >> he's kind of a legacy in the school. >> reporter: but the relationship has taken a turn since sexual misconduct claims have come out against him. the actor has said they are not accurate but in poway students and parents express concerns if his artwork should be on campus. the artwork and two murals were always intended to to be temporary with one removed in 2016 and artwork in the library taken down this past summer. in light of their educational

mission, district staff has decided to remove and return the remaining artwork. the second mural was painted over last week and plans for a new mural are in motion. they say the remaining franco artwork in our media arts center are also now being transitioned as we work with students on their concepts of visual arts on campus to update and provide opportunities for other artistic pieces. >> all are marked franco 1986. yeah, i feel like they've done the right thing. >> reporter: franco says, quote, if i've done something wrong, i will fix it. reporting live in palo alto, matt keller, abc7 news. new developments concerning the large housing project at former shipyard. the u.s. navy admits the contractor hired to remove radio active waste falsified soil samples. we first told you about that fraud on monday. tertra tech said the soil was safe but there are still remnants of an old nuclear war

research lab. developers wanted to build more than 1200 houses in the shipyard. they say this confirms suspicions they've had for years. >> we need this mess cleaned up. i mean today, not tomorrow. >> the hope is we will all be dead before they can sell their next $1.2 million condo. and that's a problem. >> redevelopment plans have been put on hold for the next year. morgan hill police are trying to determine if there are more possible victims of a soccer koeccoach charged with sl harassment. gonzalez was charged of assaulting a minor he was coaching in san jose. officials don't believe this involves any students there. police arrested gonzalez at his home in morgan hill. he also worked for schools in gilroy and morgan hill. police say the alleged incident did not happen on school grounds. the russia probe is reportedly now investigating one of president trump's closest aides, hope hicks.

the focus, what she may have said about a trump tower meeting with russian officials. we break down the latest twist in the investigation. >> reporter: hope hicks played a key role along with president trump in drafting a statement for donald trump jr. about the nature of a meeting between him, jared kushner and a russian lawyer. in that statement to "the new york times," don junior said the trump tower meeting during the campaign was primarily about russian adoptions, but we later learned the meeting was set up in the hope that the trump campaign would receive dirt about hillary clinton, to help trump win the election. sources tell abc news that former white house legal team is set to meet with robert mueller. he was consulted on the drafting of the memo the next day and he has more information on the intention. he says he will show the true intention. while it's not i will lie to the press or the public, legal analysts say in the past lying to the public has sometimes been

used as evidence for obstruction of justice case. >>ed any lie can be used as part of an obstruction case. you're putting together different pieces and lies become part of those pieces. remember, in the case of bill clinton when ken starr recommended the articles of impeachment, one of them was strictly based on lying to the public. >> reporter: hope hicks' attorney flatly deny the accounts. our sources say mueller was ornl interested in the testimony after it was reported in michael wolff's book "fire and fury." abc news, washington. i.c.e. will not arrest undocumented immigrants at courthouses unless they're wanted for crimes or pose a threat to public safety. federal immigration officials made that promise yesterday. they say i.c.e. agents need approval from a supervisor before making an arrest. i.c.e. is responding to critics who say agents unfairly target undocumented immigrants at courthouses for noncriminal

we have one to two fires a day and when you respond together and you put your lives on the line, you do have to surround yourself with experts. and for us the expert in gas and electric is pg&e. we run about 2,500/2,800 fire calls a year and on almost every one of those calls pg&e is responding to that call as well. and so when we show up to a fire and pg&e shows up with us it makes a tremendous team during a moment of crisis. i rely on them, the firefighters in this department rely on them, and so we have to practice safety everyday. utilizing pg&e's talent and expertise in that area trains our firefighters on the gas or electric aspect of a fire and when we have an emergency situation

good morning again. let's take a look at what's going on outside in emeryville. we use that as the backdrop for my ak you weather highlights. it is going to be this month than last month, especially the first two weeks as a dry pattern will dominate. it will make it outdoorable this weekend where it will feel like spring everywhere. i kind of go backwards on my highlights, the stagnate pattern, air remains clean. you can see the high pressure erasing the high clouds. i think we'll see a lot of sunshine today. the temperatures will respond. look at the wealth of 70s from santa cruz into the south bay, inland east bay, up into the north bay valleys. 66 to 69 around the bay. and out towards half moon bay. in fact, here's how it looks in santa cruz. if you're going to the beaches,
