that breaking news it out of hayward where police are looking for a person who ran away after an officer-involved shooting. let's get right to abc7 news amy hollyfield in hayward at west "a" street and harbor avenue. >> reporter: reggie, the most urgent information i need to get out right away is for the residents that live along the royal and "a" street corridor. a shelter in place has been issued because a suspect is believed to be in that area and he is on foot. they want people to stay inside their homes. now, let me show you what happened here in this part of hayward. this is where the shooting took place. we are at west "a" and arbor. look at the motorcycle that's

been knocked over. that officer was on the motorcycle and listen to what he went through. he was trying to pull over an suv that was shooting. the suv finally stopped, went in reverse, rammed the officer. somehow the motorcycle became attached to the suv. the suv went into drive, going forward, taking the motorcycle with him. somehow the officer got free. he did bring out his gun and fired several times at the suv into the windshield. they do not know whether he hit the man inside. this happened outside a retirement home, the hayward village. one employee here heard it all. >> and i heard some gunshots, pop, pop, pop. and i was kind of a little afraid to, you know, to come outside and see, you know, who was -- who was shooting. >> reporter: and now you're looking at a live picture from sky7 of the other scene. this is the royal area and "a"

street, where the shelter in place has been issued. the man did abandon his suv, so he is on foot. he got rid of it on royal street. so, that's why they're focusing on this area, believing he can't get far. they hope they have him surrounded. they don't have much of a description of him other than he's a young hispanic man, possibly around his 20s. that's who they're looking for. they want residents to stay inside and let the police handle it. the officer who was on this motorcycle suffered minor injuries, miraculously after going through all that, they think he'll be okay. we'll stay on this story, especially for those living in hated ward watching this, they say just stay inside for now. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. a 15-year-old boy is in critical condition after a shooting in los angeles. police in the west lake district say another student, a 15-year-old girl is in fair condition. this happened at school at the sal castro middle school. we know at this point a female

suspect is? custody. police say right now the campus is secure, there is not a threat to any more students. right now we do not know the circumstances leading up to that shooting. we'll continue to update that story as we get information. new this morning, part of southbound el camino real is shut down after a fatal crash before 7:00 this morning south spruce avenue. police have not released many deed tails on that crash. police show an suv that has some front-end damage. they have not said how long that street will stay closed. a deadly crash in sunnyvale. sky7 over west caribbean drive earlier this morning. that crash happened around 7:15. it appears to involve a bicycle police say caribbean drive is closed in both directions between boregas and geneva drive. it was a rough commute for some b.a.r.t. riders this morning. there were delays as train had to be single-tracked between south hayward and union city

stations. around 4:45 this morning b.a.r.t. tweeted crews had to fix part of the third rail that got damaged after a maintenance truck derailed. nobody got hurt. b.a.r.t. had to bring in a crane to tow the truck. then 65 feet of damaged rail had to be removed. >> very frustrating. we're so sorry you're late to work or getting your kids to school. the good news is no injuries. wasn't due to any rail defect, which that's something we want to make sure isn't the cause. and that we responded right away, trying to get information out to the public so you can better plan your day. >> the fix was completed around 8:30 this morning. ac transit pus helped get passengers between the stations. most high schools jump at the chance of highlighting the career of an alum who goes on to be a big star. for one palo alto school it's the opposite. it's erasing the mark left behind by actor james franco. we're live at palo alto

school to explain. >> reporter: franco graduated from palo alto high school 20 years ago. they took pride in the fact james franco graduated from the school in 1996. the movie star also maintains connection with the campus, donating artwork and murals and even taught a film class in 2015. >> he's kind of a legacy in the school. >> reporter: but the relationship has taken a turn since sexual misconduct claims have come out against him. the actor has said they are not accurate but in poway students and parents express concerns if his artwork should be on campus. the artwork and two murals were always intended to to be temporary with one removed in 2016 and artwork in the library taken down this past summer. in light of their educational
