svu" causes a bomb scare in new york. the ride of your life. the world's longest zip line. and hello, we begin this morning with president trump poised to go public with a memo against the wishes of his own appointed officials. >> he is expected to tell congress he has no objections to releasing the memo which details alleged surveillance abuses at the fbi tied to the russia investigation. the president has reportedly told friends that the memo backs up his claim that his campaign did not collude with russia. abc's serena marshall has new details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. and the president we've been told read the memo yesterday, likely to authorize its release today and a senior administration office says they're unlikely to make any redactions.

president trump likely to give the go ahead to release the gop memo his own fbi director warned against making public. the fbi took the extraordinary step earlier this week of opposing its release citing, quote, grave concerns about its accuracy. the union representing fbi ag t agents thanked director chris wray for his support. former fbi director james comey also defending the agency in a tweet writing, all should appreciate the fbi speaking up and that in the long run, weasels and liars never hold the field as long as good people stand up. the memo written by republicans on the house intelligence committee purports to show the justice department acted inappropriately when it sought a available warrant for a former trump campaign adviser suspected of being a russian agent. >> the point was to selectively declassify information so that it would support a narrative favorable to the president. >> reporter: the likely decision doesn't just put the president at odds with democrats and the

fbi. according to "the washington post" his director of national intelligence also expressed reservations about the release and the number three republican in the senate, john thuan urged house republicans to pay careful attention to what the folks who protect us say. but speaker ryan argued it isn't an indictment of the fbi. >> it does not impugn the mueller investigation or the deputy attorney general. >> reporter: speaker ryan's spokeswoman says he supports releasing the ten-page democratic countermemo even though the committee voted against its release but that gop four-page memo is likely to be made public later today. kendis, diane. >> serena marshall live from d.c. for us, thanks. one of the president's claims about the state of the union address has been proven false. the president tweeted his speech was the most watched in history but the ratings show otherwise showing the previous three presidents actually got more viewers. >> investigators say witnesses

have been describing issues at the crossing where a train carrying republican lawmakers crashed into a truck this week. they say the gate has not been working properly in recent days and sometimes blocked the crossing for hours even with no train coming. christopher foley was killed in that crash. he leaves behind a 1-year-old son. a go fund me page has now raised more than $50,000. 18 people have been injured after a minivan crashed into a crowd of pedestrians outside a starbucks in shanghai, china, today. witnesses say the van was on fire before the crash. but police now believe this was an accident, not an attack. they say the driver was smoking while carrying gas canisters this that vehicle. we turn to the school shooting in los angeles. a young girl under arrest accused of firing shots inside a classroom but now the investigation is taking a new turn. a 12-year-old girl led away in handcuffs after shots fired at a los angeles middle school. >> per fd, gunshots were heard

on location it's castro middle school. >> reporter: they believe it was an accident and witnesses say the girl didn't know the gun was real. >> it was an accident. because they thought it was a toy gun. >> okay. >> but then they shot -- >> reporter: it happened inside a classroom around 9:00 thursday morning. police say a 15-year-old boy was shot in the head and a 15-year-old girl was hit in the wrist. both are being treated in a hospital. two other students with graze wounds were treated and released. >> those kids are too young. >> reporter: the entire school was put on lockdown as frantic students called their families in tears. >> he sent me a text. there is a psycho with a weapon. >> as a parent this is everyone's worst case nightmare. >> reporter: in a phone interview the alleged shooter's grandmother described her as loving and caring. now one of the main focuses of the investigation, where did she get the gun? and how did she get it into the school. >> the reality is as a community we have to examine what is it that would make a child want to come to school with a gun.

we're back with an investigation into fires caused by heated seats. at least two involving cars made by general motors are being blamed on seat heaters. an indiana woman says she remote started her cadillac cts and burst into flames moments later and a man in texas was driving his buick lacrosse when his seat caught fire leaving him with a burn on his hand. gm says it's looking into those reports. united airlines is joining delta in tightening the rues for

passengers traveling with emotional support animals. passengers will now be required to show that the animal has been properly trained to behave in public and has been vaccinated. united denies the new rules have anything to do with its ban of an emotional support peacock from a flight earlier this week. it says the bird was just too big to board. apple is reporting its biggest quarterly profit of all time. more than $20 billion, this, of course, despite a drop in iphone sales. that drop was offset by the higher price of the iphone x. apple's cash reserves hit a record at $285 billion. amazon has posted the largest quarterly profit in its history. thanks to record holiday sales, millions of new customers for its prime service and a windfall from the recent tax reform. the city of cape town is imposing new emergency water restrictions warning that day zero is looming. city officials expect on april 16th the water supply will run out unless residents severely cut back. the new restrictions limit usage

district. it's been agonizing for students and staff the last several months. thern looking at eight schools to possibly close in the area. there were several community forums held that many parents and children attended. the district said they were forced to make this difficult decision because it is struggling financially. many families moved out of area which led to the drop in enrollment. in a newsletter, he says, "i understand this will take time and that a profound sadness will be felt with the closing of schools. we are owl committed to doing all we can to make these changes as smooth as possible." in the coming months, families will get a letter telling them what their new school is and once enrollment in finalized, that's when teachers and staff will find out where they are going to be reassigned to. reporting live in san jose, janine de la ega, abc 7 news. thank you. it's 4:30 now. let's get a
