district. it's been agonizing for students and staff the last several months. thern looking at eight schools to possibly close in the area. there were several community forums held that many parents and children attended. the district said they were forced to make this difficult decision because it is struggling financially. many families moved out of area which led to the drop in enrollment. in a newsletter, he says, "i understand this will take time and that a profound sadness will be felt with the closing of schools. we are owl committed to doing all we can to make these changes as smooth as possible." in the coming months, families will get a letter telling them what their new school is and once enrollment in finalized, that's when teachers and staff will find out where they are going to be reassigned to. reporting live in san jose, janine de la ega, abc 7 news. thank you. it's 4:30 now. let's get a quick update on

a couple of cars getting into it partially blocking a lane. traffic is backed up beyond richmond parkway. they are doing a traffic grade from highway 4, meaning they're slowing folks down so they don't come in hot to that accident. we'll be watching this one. they say 30 minutes before it's out of there. >> federal immigration officials are demanding dozens of businesses in northern california prove their employees are legally allowed to work in the u.s. >> san francisco, san jose and sacramento, they were given three days to turn over employee documents. the move is similar to a january 10th operation at 7-eleven stores in the area. religious leaders gathered in san mateo to stand in solidarity against the threat of i.c.e. raids. they're committed to protecting immigrants facing detention and deportation. today, president trump is expected to declassify a controversial gop memo. republicans argue that fbi

to show the justice department acted inappropriately when it sought a surveillance warrant fr a campaign adviser suspected of being a russian agent. speaker ryan says it's not an indictment of the fbi imt. it does not impugn the mueller investigation or the deputy attorney general. >> the memo is expected to be released later today. this morning the president is up tweetsing, accusing top leadership as the fbi and the department of justice of political bias against republicans. remember, those top positions were appointed by the president. live in washington, serena marsha marshall, abc 7 news. b.a.r.t. police detectives hope that video from one of the train cars will help identify a suspect in an alleged sexual assaults. a 27-year-old woman says it happened on wednesday night. she boarded a train at the 16th street station in san francisco and then fell asleep. when she woke up, a man was touching her phi thigh and openly touching himself. she didn't tell anyone about it initially. but posted about it on twitter.

the supportive responses convinced her to go to police. the san francisco police officer's association is criticizing the current use of force policy after an officer on bike patrol was hit by a car. the undercover officer was attempted to arrest two suspects involved in a car break inin alamo square yechltd one struck the officer with a car while trying to escape. it's so frustrate the sfp officers that our use of force policy prohibits us from shooting at a suspect in a vehicle even if they're trying to kill or injure innocent civilians or officers. an officer suffered a critical head injury after being hit on bike patrol. the use of force policy was changed in 2016 after a series of officer involved shootings. the search continues for a -- an officer was trying to pull over a man for speeding in hayward when the driver put the

vehicle in reverse and hit his motorcycle. the driver sped off. the deputy fired his weapon at the man, but authorities don't know if he was wounded. 4:36 now. berkeley police warning people to be on alert. four people were robbed. their laptop near bancroft way. police don't have any detailed descriptions of the three suspects and the victims were not hurt. an anti-war memorial in the east bay could soon disappear. it was over the display of 4,000 white crosses in the lafayette hillside yesterday. the memorial was founded in 2006. she died. now her son is selling the five-acre lot. >> my marching orders are to liquidate. i'm telling it. if we can turn that into a permanent more dwral with the cross, then great. otherwise, that might be the end of it. we shall see. >> the public has somewhat adopted or is involved in this

67 at 2:00 and 4:00 with a mixture of a few high clouds and sunshine. definitely bright day. under the stars, we'll fall back to 58 by 8:00. as far as the south bay, 52 at 8:00. 67 at noon. i know you were looking at these temperatures. low 70s from 2:00 to 4:00 and back to 61 by 8:00. we'll take a plook at how much longer the warm temperatures will last in my seven-day forecast. here's sue. >> let's go to the richmond-san rafael bridge. looking good with the light conditions into marin county from the eastern side. the east bay side. if you look to the right of your screen, you can see that blinking warning light. that's in the eastbound direction. it says merge right. there are left lanes blocked coming off the bridge on the richmond side. so just be aware that there's roadwork out there. otherwise, we'll take a look at this problem that was out on the peninsula southbound 101 near holly. that has been cleared out of lanes and been there for quite some time overnight. we have an issue on the east shore freeway westbound near appian way with a sig-alert.

let's take a look around the state today. the 80s in laos angeles and springs. low 70s, mid 70s, look at that. redding near 80 degrees. 63 today in yosemite and 54 in tahoe. as we talked about, the snow pack is starting to shrink. 17% of average for the entire year. here's a look at heavenly in my seven-day forecast. average high is 43. we'll be 54 today. that's the coolest temperature. near 60 by thursday. right now, keeping my eye on a courtroom in michigan today where disgraced dr. larry nassar could be arriving at any moment. in an hour from now, another sentencing hearing for nassar will resume in michigan.

this is some video from what's already happened. this is a former olympic team doctor's third and final sentencing hearing. he's facing another long prison sentence. nassar has already been sentenced on federal child pornography charges and sexual abuse that took place while he worked at michigan state. this hearing expected to last into next week. back to you. jessica, thank you. a north bay lawmaker trying to put a bill in the books to help you escape your home in the case of a disaster. it has to do with your garage. reporter kate larsen has the story. >> reporter: at least 43 people died in the fires. presumably unable to escape. senator bill dodd of napa is trying to make sure more californians with drive out of their garage when the next disaster strikes. >> i saw in my own neighborhood some real issues with garage doors and people with trouble

head off to the beach. sunday, almost as warm. maybe 2 degrees cooler. maybe a degree or two cooler for tuesday, wednesday, thursday. but upper 60s to low 70s. how about roads this morning. sue? >> problem spots. let's go right now to the east shore commute. right now from hercules into san francisco, about 33 minutes. it's a little longer than usual. it's moving nicely along this stretch. the reason for the flight delay is because of this sig-alert out there. it is southbound. westbound 80 near appian way and looks like chp is in the process of clearing that. you're slow from highway 4 to the richmond parkway and appian way due to this accident partially blocking the left lane. sue, thank you. if you haven't pre-ordered your flame thrower from elon musk, you're out of luck. they've sold all 20,000 flame throwers that were available. $500 each.

wouldn't be bad for me. in fact, it turned out to be pretty good. it got me a lot of publicity. i didn't realize the whole world was worried about whether i was in the hospital or not. >> lee plans to get back to his normal schedule over the weekend, traveling and meeting fans. four thieves managed to steal an atm from a gas station in fresno county. investigators just released the surveillance video. it happened three weeks ago. you see the four men break into this gas station and they tried to steal an atm and a safe there. all they could manage to do is load the cash machine into their truck. the store manager arrived just five minutes after the alarm went off. the suspects were already long gone. police found the atm later without the cash inside. if you're missing a wedding band and have been to point reyes national seashore. a gold ring was found on the side of mt. mission road in marin county on wednesday. that's according to anna dodge
