16-year-old junior caitlin gonzalez passed away after a brief illness. she died from complications from pneumonia. school district officials say the community is coming together. >> there's a thing i've been impressed with the most is the level of caring and compassion of the entire school community. of the liberty community. >> some people have been talking about it. helping other people out. but it's tough times. we'll get through it. >> a series of tragedies for the school. in january, a liberty student took their own life. two other deaths followed. the cause not being released. but we're told it's not flu-related. grief counselors will be on hand for the fourth recent death. classes are back in session this morning at a los angeles middle school following a shooting. a 15-year-old boy was shot in the head and a 15-year-old girl shot in the wrist inside of a classroom. that boy expected to survive. a 12-year-old girl is in custody. investigators are trying to figure out how the gun got to school. at this time based on witness

statements, police are treating the shooting as an accident. according to the group every town for gun safety, this was the 14th school shooting in the u.s. this year. a protester was thrown to the ground while being arrested by a group of uc berkeley police officers at a union worker's rally on campus. >> what are you doing? >> officer, what are you doing? >> a statement from uc berkeley claims a man, cafeteria cook threw his sign at a moving vehicle before resisting arrest yesterday. the union says cole was peacefully protesting, calling it an assault. scientists hoping to learn from the north bay wildfires. to take a survey. some people have complained of illnesses. the survey officially went live yesterday and it can be done through a website. researchers say it takes about 30 minutes. we have posted that link for you on our website, abc7news.com. it has been a difficult year

. welcome back everyone. breaking news. a new jobs report was just released. it shows 200,000 jobs were added in the month of january. report also says that wages have gone up at the fastest pace in more than eight years. the pay gains could mean employers are more fiercely competing for workers and raises could be directly correlated to the tax cut plan. some economists don't think so. meanwhile, the unemployment rate did stay the same at 4.1%. that's the lowest level since the year 2000. one more note. this report released as important because it could foreshadow an increase by the federal reserve. we'll have to wait and see. >> san francisco's budding marijuana industry led to the

school starts in the next hour. but we're going to talk about the san francisco police officers association right now. they are criticizing the current use of force policy after an officer on bike patrol was hit by a car. >> the undercover officer was attempting to arrest two suspects involved in a car break-in, in alamo square. i'm sorry. we're having technical issues. we're not sure what's going on. let's get to our reporter in the field. gentleman de la vega. three schools shutting down. >> school here at del roble elementary starts in the next hour and a half. it is bound to be a tough day here knowing that they just have a few more months left. besides del roble elementary school that will be closing, glider and miner elementary will close after the school year. they're in the oak grove school district which has seen a decline in enrollment over the last decade. it's been agonizing for students and staff for the last several months. district officials, looking at

eight schools to possibly close. there were several community forums. they were forced to make the difficult decision because it is struggling financially. many families have moved out of area which led to a drop in enrollment. in a newsletter from the superintendent that came out, he says "i understand this will take time and that a profound sadness will be felt with the closing of schools. we are all committed to doing all we can to make these changes as smooth as possible." in the coming months families will be sent a letter letting them know what school that they've been reassigned to. then once enrollment in finalized, teachers and staff will get their new rea assignment. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, abc 7 news. thank you. b.a.r.t. police detectives hope that surveillance video from a train car will help identify a suspect in an alleged sexual assault. a woman said it happened wednesday night.

she boarded a train in san francisco and fell a sleechlt when she woke up, a man was touching her thigh and openly touching himself. the woman did not initially tell anyone but posted about it on twitter around says that the supportive responses she received convinced her to go to police. back now to the story from the san francisco police officers' a soefrjts they are criticizing the current use of force policy after an officer on bike patrol was hit by a car. the undercover officer was attempting to arrest two suspects involved in a car break-in, in alamo square yesterday. one of the suspects struck the fe officer with a car while trying to escape. he suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. it is so frustrating the officers that our use of force policy prohibits us from shooting at a suspect in a vehicle even if that suspect is trying to kill or seriously injure innocent civilians or our officers. in october, officer eliah tank will suffered a krit will head injury while on

the search continues for the driver who hit an alameda county deputy with his car. the officer was trying to pull over a man for speeding in hayward. but the driver put his car in reverse and hit the deputy's motorcycle before speeding away. a deputy fired his weapon but authorities don't know if he was wounded. berkeley police warning the community to be on alert following a strong armed robbery. four people were robbed on wednesday night around 8:30. police don't have a detailed description of the suspects. we're being told the victims were not hurt. in th morning, president trump escalated his attacks on law enforcement officials. he's accusing top leadership of the fbi and the justice department of political bias against republicans. that's believed to be the subject of a controversial memo whose release the president is expected to approve. serena marshall has more. >> good morning. it was yesterday that the president read the memo and a

creek accident. another issue in oakland. this one is northbound 880 near the embarcadero. left lane also blocked. slow traffic building back towards 66. now breaking news. breaking news. disgraced doctor larry nassar nearly got attacked inside a michigan courtroom only moments ago. watch this video here that we just got. a man who is reportedly the father of one of nassar's victims, you see him there speaking. all of a sudden you'll see as he lungs at nassar. he was stopped by the bailiff. here he is. talking to the judge. according it all of our reports that we've gotten from inside the courtroom, here he is asking the judge for five minutes alone in a room with nassar. then watch him run. and you see the bailiffs take him down. he wasn't actually able to get to nassar. in fact, his lawyer and a bailiff protected nassar. so he didn't get hit. he got shoved aside.

but the father of the victim there being put into handcuffs, taken away by authorities inside the courtroom. and incredibly, a chaotic moment. something we didn't expect to see this morning as this live hearing continues for the disgraced doctor larry nassar. several victims have come forward and his father and all of this chaos ensued. here's a live look at the courtroom right now. you see the another victim speaking. that has resumed and things have gone on. boy, it was chaotic for a few moments there. jessica, thank you for tracking that. public schools built before 2010 will be tested for lead in their drinking water by july of next year. high levels of lead turned up in schools in san francisco and oakland. even at low levels lead can cause behavioral problems and learning disabilities. governor brown signed a bill to test lead in older schools last year. a scam to trick you into giving up your credit card information to thieves.

we'll lose a few of those degrees. today's temperatures will be mirrored in sunday and monday's forecast. maybe a drop in temperatures a degree or two. but warmer than we should be for tuesday, wednesday, thursday. that's my forecast. here's sue. southbound 680, walnut creek, four cars was blocking the left lane. if you look closely, part of it moved to the right-hand shoulder. look at that, the damage is done. all the brake lights. they start at the 242 merge on to 680 southbound. so give yourself plenty of extra time. we'll look at the drive times here in a minute. other problem spots in oakland. northbound 880. an accident blocking a lane there near the embarcadero. the damage is done here with very slow traffic all the way back beyond the coliseum. another accident in vallejo, that side of westbound 37 past mare island much that's the merge from two lanes down to one
