solidarity withs real and they stand with immigrants across the state. >> after what is believed to be the largest local sweep of workplaces by immigration and customs enforcement agents since president trump took office, many are wondering what comes next. >> chris has the story now from the south bay. >> reporter: some say they're now living in a constant state of fear. >> it's a first state to do sanctuary, so we're going to get hit, we know that. >> reporter: federal immigration officials visited 77 businesses across northern california this week demanding proof that their employees are legally allowed to work in the united states. rosa deleon volunteers with a project that seeks to help families facing immigration. they're taking calls from employers concerned about their employees being targeted. including one that was served with an i-9 audit note.

>> in the city of gilroy yesterday, multiple community members report what they thought was raids on immigrants. >> this is an immigrant community so it hits home. >> reporter: the department of homeland security did not return our request for confirmation, but city officials say they are looking into the matter on behalf of their residents. >> we want to make sure they feel comfortable approaching local law enforcement to report any crimes or any other issues they may have. >> reporter: immigration advocates stress the importance of not -- >> call the hot line immediately so we're able to dispatch rapid responders to confirm whether or not immigration enforcement is taking place in the community. >> reporter: as the search for clarity and understanding continues on. in the south bay abc7 news.

abc7 learned that the flu has already peaked in california and now you'll be glad to hear it's on the decline. the state health department says there were 30 deaths in california last week, but overall flu activity is decreasing, but it does remain elevated. even so, health officials say don't be fooled, the season still is expected to last for several more weeks if not months. >> it's the trend we have been waiting for in california. >> we're past our peak. >> but that doesn't mean the season's over. >> the color red represents high activity of the flu, but then the number of visits to the emergency room and hospitalization goes down. and this past week, the state is in the low moderate category. but the flu season is expected to last much longer than anticipated and getting a

vaccine is still recommended. >> people should not conclude, oh, i don't need to get vaccinated, it's going to peak and then it's going to start going down and you're going to have this longer tail, so the season is going to go on for a while. >> reporter: most states continue to be in the red. here are some telling statistics about this flu season. for the past 13 years, the cdc has used the same flu tracking system. this current flu season has seen the highest number of hospitalizations in eight years. for the prior three weeks, 49 states reported widespread activity, something that the cdc hasn't seen since they began collecting this data. >> a lot of my co-workers have been out, it seems to be specifically a very bad flu season. >> reporter: so far 127 people in california have died from the flu this season. in san francisco, leanne melendez abc7 news. a big mess on a san

francisco city street this afternoon. take a look, a fire broke out inside a garbage truck at about 1:30 this afternoon. in response the driver had to dump all of the trash in the truck on to monterrey boulevard. check out that pile in the middle there. no word on how that fire started. meanwhile a semitruck hauling garage overturned on skyline boulevard. this was over 92 this morning snarling the morning commute for half the day. sky 7 was overhead as crews managed to flip that truck back on its wheels. we are breaking weather records all over the bay area, wasn't it gorgeous today? spring like temperatures in february. check out a live look from santa cruz where it looks just stunning out there as the sun begins to set. and from our emeryville camera, another beautiful shot as you can see. our meteorologist is here with just where those temperature records have been set today. >> all over the bay area.

let me show you some of those areas, san jose 74 degrees, 73 was the old record. a new record at moffett field, 75 degrees, breaking the old record of 72 degrees, oakland airport was the only tie. here are some of the other highs around the bay area, 76 santa rosa and concord, 71 in san francisco, 76 was in santa rosa at the airport. as you check out live doppler 7, you will notice that all we have are a few high, thin, wispy clouds. i'll tell you if this warm weather is going to stick around for the weekend. the unusually warm weather is a great thing for sightseeing, drawing crowds to tourist hot spots and all the places local love. abc7 news reporter melanie woodrow is live at pier 15. lots of smiles today, melanie? >> reporter: we met quite a few

>> this is not normal, no, this is fun and beautiful. >> reporter: fun, beautiful and here to stay, above average temperatures are expected for the next couple of weeks with no rain in sight. in san francisco, melanie woodrow, abc7 news. the federal reserve is taking unprecedented action against wells fargo for its fake account scandal. the fed ordered the san francisco based bank to replace four board members and limit its growth. over the course of two years, wells fargo employees opened more than a million phony accounts in customer's names to meet sales number. fed chairman janet yellen says that wells fargo will not expand until it is able to do so safely and manage all of its risks and protect its customers. among those affected by the north bay wildfires, a group of students who had to cancel a field trip to a leadership camp.

can't be helped, obvious ly, an the teacher asked for a refund, but the owner of the camp is refusing. >> reporter: santa rosa high school year teacher jessica dennis signed her 32 students up for what she thought would be a class bonding experience, a ropes course, it cost $970, the group did fundraising to come up with the money. then there were the fires, seven of her students lost their homes, many were evacuated and missed three weeks of school. she had to cancel the ropes class and got refunded half of it. but the team building business called four winds refuses to refund the rest. >> we have a contractual agreement. i presume she teaches the kids th the value

>> four winds said they had to pay employees on stand by during the fires and other sonoma county schools have rescheduled. >> jessica has the opportunity to reschedule any day, any time, seven days a week, between now and next summer, i don't care. she can bring those kids to the ropes course and they can have this experience. >> we missed so much school and we have all been so busy and a lot of our lives have changed where we live now. so it's just not possible for a lot of us. >> reporter: to reschedule? >> correct. >> reporter: the class says people have been sending donations into the yearbook team to make up for the money that will not be reimbursed. >> this is probably good advice, it pays to read the fine print. >> always. michael finney, you see a lot of contracts obviously, this one seems to be fair? >> look, let me start by saying i feel sorry for anyone who's

had to deal with the wildfires or other natural disasters this year, but that alone doesn't give you a legal right to cancel a contract. that's what you just saw in the report. i have read the paper work and if the students had reached out to me on my facebook page, i would have suggested that they ask for the refund but not expect it. one way to get out of a contract, legally is called frustration of purpose. here's an example, you pay a painter to paint your house but your house burns down, there's been a frustration of purpose, no house to paint and the contract can be voided. this case may approach that legal threshold, but does it cross it? take it to small claims court and see what the judge says, that's what they're for. a decade of documents, four state lawmakers are named in a sexual harassment claim. plus hiding in plain sight, a woman reported lost found on

my aim is to protect employees tomorrow and going forward. >> one of those democratic senators named is tony mendoza. mendoza is on leave while he faces accusations made by three women. congresswoman jackie spear visited patients at the va medical center in san francisco. she handed out roses to the vets who are receiving treatment there with a warm valentine's day greeting included. >> will you be my valentine? >> absolutely. >> okay, here you go, enjoy them. >> reporter: spear also handed out valentine's day cards for students in hthe high school in her district. there's an old story of someone running away and going to hollywood. a woman was found after it was discovered she was a contestant on abc's the bachelor.

that's her official picture from the show and on the right is her missing person's photo. martina's mother reported her missing back in february. the 22-year-old martinez went social media silent because of the show. she did tweet out this message, though, mom, how many times do i have to tell you i don't get cell service on "the bachelor." lebron james dismissed rumors today that he might join the golden state james renewed his focus with the dubs. he also said there is nothing to the report of our sister station that he might go to the saints. james even called the idea nonsense. you can watch lebron as the cavaliers play the houston rockets right here on abc7. and speaking of the warriors

start out at 52 degrees in the morning, but by afternoon you climb up to 75 degrees. expect some more records as we head into tomorrow just like today. tomorrow will make it the third day of records. live doppler 7 unfortunately not tracking any rain, just some high, thin, wispy clouds, and a gorgeous view from our emeryville camera, warm, sunny pattern through next week and there's no rain in sight for the next two weeks or possibly longer. here's a lovely picture from our emeryville camera, it is still going to be a warm one tonight at 6:00, you will notice temperatures in the 60s, a mild evening at 8:00 p.m., clear skies as we head through the overnight hours, temperatures will cool down to the mid and upper 50s, you're going to see those high clouds around, more record temperatures expected. all of these cities are expecting to break their previous record or tie them. san francisco 74 tomorrow, 77 san jose, just a few of those

numbers. so here's how warm in the south bay tomorrow. 78 in santa cruz, san jose, santa clara, well above average, sunnyvale short sleeve weather for you, 75 in menlo park, downtown san francisco, you're going to see a temperature of 7 th 4 degrees, 77 in santa rosa, 74 in oakland, 76 degrees in hayward. inland areas, you're also going to be warm, livermore, concord, 76 degrees. you can download the accuweather app and keep track of those temperatures any time you want, hour by hour, minute by minute. the accuweather seven day forecast does include more records tomorrow. super bowl sunday, while you're enjoying the game. if you're running out and about trying to get things done before the game, it's going to where warm out there. it's going to be cool out there with temperatures bouncing back

possible evacuations and a shelter in place being ordered for that neighborhood. >> however we are still working to confirm that. fire officials say no one was hurt and this is still a developing situation. we'll bring you updates as we get them on air and online. firefighters are getting a handle on this, it's a brush fire about an hour southeast of phoenix. it produced an incredible image, even a spinning vortex of fire there. so far that fire has burned 200 acres. the owner of a stolen pick-up truck in solano county got his truck back the hard way, he followed the truck's tracking device to a home. the truck was dismantled. police arrested two guys, including one who tried to hide in a chicken coop on the property. it is friday so it's time for finney's friday free stuff. >> here are some tickets right here.
