good morning bay area. let's get up and get going. >> this is abc7 mornings. >> it's saturday, february 3rd. good morning, and thanks so much for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with a first look at the forecast. here's meteorologist lisa argen. she is tracking doppler 7 for us. >> good morning to you. you can probably feel the mild air with us. had to open some window last night because it really didn't cool off too much in some areas. here's live doppler 7 where we are clear. in the south bay numbers range from the mid 50s in san jose, 6 in santa clara. mountain view in the low 60s. closer to the bay, 55 alameda. and 53 bodega bay. we are looking at very mild number compared to yesterday inland and on the coast. but we did have some cooling in the north bay. your forecast today though calls

for temperatures to climb quickly. through the 50s by the early morning hours. by noontime we are well into the 60s. and 4:00 this afternoon, record highs once again with mid and upper 70s on tap. upper elevation winds will be breezy again. and evening hours, wow n the 60s. we'll let you know how long this trend is going to last and have a look at the rest of your weekend coming up. chris? >> lisa, thank you. developing news out of pleasant hill where a lock down has ended after an ufl successful search for a gunman. last night at around 10:30 police received calls of a manwaring cam plaj pantsed a bulletproof vest and carrying an assault rifle. officers arrived and see a maun man, sealed off the area and issued a lockdown order. all residents were told to stay inside and lock their window and doors. a s.w.a.t. team was called in to search an apartment building on boyd road but the suspect was not located.

this morning, health officials are confirming four additional deaths in the bay area are flu related w. the outbreak being the most severe in years there is an important warning for the millions of americans heading to a super bowl party. there is concern that those parties this weekend could spread the virus even more. abc7 news reporter katie utehs has the story. >> this is the most severe season we've seen in years. >> reporter: sonoma county has seen 12 severe influenza cases, two fatal. the flu is also being blamed for the death of two men in moraga last month. >> the cdc is reporting the most hospitalizations for the flu since 2005. though this is real. it's here. we want folks to be safe. >> reporter: with so many people gathering this weekend to watch the super bowl. both the centers for disease credible and prevention and the red cross are running safety campaigns. wash your hands. make sure food is properly heated. >> don't double dip. as george costanza did in seinfeld. >> reporter: while your neighbor's nachos may be

questionable restaurants take food safety seriously. and they are required to have food handleders permits. >> when they are sick they can't come in to work. we don't want them to work. we don't want them touching the food or drinks or anything that's going to get our customers sick. >> reporter: springers tap room and restaurant in santa rosa is prepared for the big game. they are stocked with hand sanitizer and soap. >> we have backup. so if it runs out, we have more. there is no doubt about it. >> reporter: if you could be contagious just stay home. >> not only stay home when you are sick. give yourself an extra day because it could still be lingering in your body. >> reporter: medical experts still recommend getting a flu shot as your best protection. in santa rosa, katie utehs, news. developing news. the u.s. coast guard is investigating a debris field off the coast. a life yakt and pieces of fiberglass were found yesterday afternoon six miles west of point ano nuevo.

there are no reports of missing boats in the area. crews are searching by woet and by air. newly released video shows a car break in that turned into a violent report and police officers say they could have been hild. alyssa harrington shows us what happened. >> reporter: what started as a car break in quickly spiralled into a violent confrontation between police and suspects. watch as officers draw their guns and the driver runs over his accomplice and a cop. [ bleep ]. >> reporter: this happened year alamo square park on hayes and pierce streets thursday. surveillance video shows two gentlemen wearing hoodies enter a black sedan. they peer into a suv. they smash a window and grab a bag. what they didn't know is three undercover san francisco police officers were watching them. the officers move in to make arrests and tackle one of the suspects to the ground.

>> while the officer was taking the remaining suspect into custody the driver suspect put his vehicle into reverse, subsequently striking the officer and his accomplice that were down on the ground. >> reporter: the driver then pulls forward and hits them again. >> this is a stark reminder that sfpd officers face danger on a daily basis. >> reporter: all three were arrested and charged with attempted homicide. meanwhile the police officer association is criticizing the use of force policy, which prohibits officers from firing at a suspect in a moving vehicle. in san francisco, alyssa harrington abc7 news. a family is in mourning after a missing dug was found dead with his legs tied with rope. rex ran away from a home in vacaville. police found him dead on thursday. rex's family says someone had tied his feet and threw him out of a window while driving on the freeway. police are looking for a suspect but have not released any details. residents are finally back in their homes after a tree fell and ruptured a natural gas line

in newark. the gas leak forced a town house complex to be evacuated yesterday afternoon. sky 7 flew above the scene on joaquin marietta avenue near cherry street as a pg&e crew made repairs. after nearly three weeks a chp officer who was hit by a suspected drunk driver is out of the hospital. contra costa county chp tweeted video of the officer leaving the hospital in walnut creek yesterday. his legs were crushed in that crash. since then he has had multiple surgeries and undergone what his colleagues call a grueling physical therapy schedule. he hopes to make a full recovery and return back to work. we are hearing from the man who accidentally issued a missile warning in hawaii. he claims he never knew it was an exercise. >> it was 1-%el real. i did what i was trained to do as far as making the selection to notify the public.

it was a terrible feeling, dread. i was very emotional about what happened. >> the man in the his 50s was fired from his job. he believes the military you this hanlt notifications instead of state employees. last year at this time there was rain pounding down in the santa cruz mountains, what a difference a year makes. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo shows us how warm weather has merchants and people smiling. >> reporter: nothing says summer like beach volleyball. except it's february. >> flash back a year ago from today and we had one of the rainiest weather seasons on record. >> reporter: which makes this winter sunny spell in santa cruz worth its weight in gold. >> tourism is about an $800 million equation to the annual economy here. when the weather is like this you will see an uptick in business. >> reporter: the owner of this restaurant on the santa cruz

sthi days of the last law enforcement officer swept up in the east bay sex scandal has been resolved. the plea involved a misdemeanor count of unlawfully furnishing a law enforcement record or information to an unauthorized person. that person was jasmine owe budsland who was a teen at the time. smith had sex with her in exchange for the information. the software company auto desk has laid off 157 employees in san francisco and marin county as part of what's being called a restructuring plan. those numbers amount to 13% of the total work force. the company's ceo insisted back in november when the cuts were announced that the restructuring was not a cost reducing activity. auto desk is transitioning from perpetual software licenses to software subscriptions and cloud computing services. a dispute in the north bay fire zone has a yearbook teacher pressuring a local business for a refund, but to no avail. should the student fire victims

get their money back? abc 7 news reporter leslie brink lee has both sides of the story. >> i don't think that we've had a pleasant experience, to say the least. >> reporter: santa rosa high school yearbook teacher jessica dennis signed her 32 students up for what she thought would be a class bonding experience last october. a ropes course. it cost $1920. the group did fund raising to come up with the money. then there were the fires. seven of her students lost their homes. many were evacuated and missed three weeks of school. she had to cancel the ropes class and got refunded half of it. but the team building business called four winds in occidental refuses to refund the rest. >> we have a contractual agreement. i presume she teaches the kids the value of commitment and accountability. >> i understand we signed the contract. at the technical level he can keep the $960. but the question is should he? this is about the morality of keeping students' money.

warm sunny pattern through next week. no storms on the horizon. this is for the next two weeks. yes, our forecast models go well out into february. but how warm today? yesterday we saw records. today likely temperatures very, very similar. how about 77 today in san jose? the record is 74. 72 in sfo will likely break many of these. upper 70s in san jose. the old record, 73 degrees. so today the warmer day out of the weekend. the weak weather system will be dropping these numbers maybe three to five degrees tomorrow. as we look at february it's only the third day. and we have been dry, obviously. but as we go out the next two weeks and then some, looks like we are dry through valentine's day into the 18th of the monday. we are pretty sure we are not going to see any precip here. we are halfway through the rainy season of we can hope this switches around. in terms of the weak weather system bringing the temperatures

down a bit. we will stay that way with temperatures in the 60s around the bay. inland, five to 15 degrees above average continues for your monday. on tuesday, 60s coast side, 70s inland. day to day, minor fluctuated. we could see high clouds into early next week. today it's nothing but sunshine. 75 for half moon bay. oakland on the peninsula, mid 70s. down the peninsula, upper 70s. north bay, 77 santa rosa. mid 70s inland east bay. overnight lows tonight, some patchy dog with 40s in the north bay. 50s around the bay. the accuweather seven-day forcast, today the warmer day out of the weekend. super bowl sunday we will drop a fewist degrees. you will notice it more at the coast. monday and tuesday still well above average.
