mid 50s for concord and livermore. a bit cooler this morning due to cloud cover and calmer winds at the surface anywhere from 6 to 9 degrees cooler. i an look at the northern sierra, 26% of average as the northern sierra snowpack. no new snow. no rain for the future. 70 by noontime. records in jeopardy once again today. >> lisa, thanks. developing news from south carolina, that's where we've learned that the two people killed in a collision between two trains were employees of amtrak. the new york to miami train collided with a freight train that was on the same track. this happened early this morning near the town of case in lexington county. these pictures show the side of an amtrak car sheered off. one passenger praised the crew. >> i was dead asleep and i was awoken by the impact. and then the crew came through really quickly, got everybody

detrained. in a really calm fashion. >> at least 116 people were taken to the hospital. injuries ranged from bruises to broken bones. the fbi has been called in to investigate. it's not clear why the trains were on the same track. >> more developing news this time out of oakland where spectators at a sideshow threw several bottles at police officers and smashed the windows of nearby businesses. >> this all happened at around 2:00 this morning in the area of high street and foothill boulevard near fremont high school. officers cited several drivers and had numerous vehicles towed. so far we haven't heard of any injuries or arrests. last weekend, a richmond police officer was injured while trying to break up a shooid sideshow. he suffered a dislocated shoulder as well as a head wound that required staples. two teenagers are facing

multiple felony charges in that case. district attorney's office is charging juan vargas and jennifer diaz with attempted murder of a police officer and assault with a deadly weapon. >> time is 9004. this morning, police at deangelo college in cupertino are looking for a man who obviously they say committed a hate crime. a man was knock uncon news during the attack. >> the second i hit the top stair, he had come down and was just facing me. i had zero chance to protect myself. the second he saw me, he screamed blooep it and punched me straight in the face. i was new yorked out cold. >> reporter: this sketch is what deanza college student d.j. smith says the attacker looked like. smith went straight to police after waking up on the steps of the flint center garage. >> what was said, we are considering this a hate crime. >> reporter: it happened late in

the jeanning arn 26th. the week previous to that, smith says he was hit from behind in the same garage. classes are offered late. during the week, it's not uncommon to have students here between 10:00 and 11:00 at night. you won't find exterior security cameras on campus. >> a petition went around where thousands of students signed the petition in hopes to get cameras in the parking lots. nothing came about it. >> reporter: the college says there isn't funding available for cameras. campus police have followed leads from the sketch but so far no arrests. >> we've increased both foot and vehicle patrol of the areas. >> reporter: the college offered smith on and off campus resources and they're concerned about the student and the incident. >> i'm anxious all the time. i don't eat. i don't sleep. just coming on campus feels unsafe. >> reporter: smith will be working to create a safer environment for lgbtq students on campus. abc 67 news. a dog is dead and another is

on the loose after they attacked a woman and a police officer in oakland. abc 67 news was on 91st avenue where the dogs escaped from a family's yard. the east bay times reports they attacked neighbors and chased a woman to her front door. thee barely made it inside. police say her hand may have been broken by a bite. one of the dogs, a 50-pound german shepherd charged at a responding officer who obviously shot and killed the dog. police are still searching for the second animal. police in san francisco arrest aid carjacking suspect after a chase through the city. it started at around 8:30 last night when police say a vehicle was carjacked from the fifth and mission parking garage downtown. witnesses say the man had a gun. police spotted the vehicle and a chase ensued. it ended in hunter's point when the the suspect ran out. officers caught up to him and made the arrest. thankfully, no one was hurt. now a story we first brought you yesterday morning about an around man who obviously caused a serious scare in pleasant hill. he is now receiving mental

health treatment. he was spotted friday night dressed in military gear and armed with an assault style rifle near the stunt movie theater downtown. he ran from officers. police locked down the area as they searched nearly six hours for him. he was finally detained at around 4:00 yesterday morning. in about ten years, berkeley's only emergency room will move to oakland and people are very concerned about the loss. abc7 news was at the ed roberts campus on adeleine street in berkeley where the community discussed the proposed changes coming to al ta bates medical center. suter health plans to relocate alta bates' acute care services to oakland several miles away to the meet state earthquake regulations. state senator nancy skinner said 40,000 people will be put in danger. >> minutes matter. you have a heart attack, you have a stroke, minutes platter. so if it's that much further that the ambulance has to take you, then we can have an increase in deaths.

nobody wants that. >> affected services will also include labor and delivery as well as infant intensive care. suter says it is conducting a thoughtful we ru of emergency services to ensure that the affected people have good access. time 9:08. a senior citizen died while crossing the street in the union city. the crash was at mission boulevard and lafayette avenue. police say a large box truck hit the man just before 11:00 yesterday morning. the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police. a new report says pg&e power lines started two small fires during the north bay wildfires. according to the press democrat, they were separate from the huge blays last october. it says one of the fires destroyed two hopes and the other damaged an outbuilding. the investigation adds, strong winds that night caused the power lines to arc. that sent sparks into dry grass

and bushes which started the fires. it is still not clear what started the larger fires that killed dozens of people and wiped out hundreds of homes. on a lighter note, people across the bay area took advantage of yesterday's record heat. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard spent the day with some folks enjoying the unseasonably warm weather. >> reporter: oh, the dog days of winter? wait, this is february, right? >> this is amazing. it feels like the start of spring/summer. so exciting. you can see all the dogs are so excited too. >> reporter: point isabel was the place for dogs and dog laufrs on this summer-like day. you could fly a kite or chill out by the water. >> it is ridiculously hot for february. i was wishing i had my flip-flops reporter. the rowing club was giving it their all. a 24-hour rowing marathon to raise money for the club's youth programs. >> this afternoon it's going to

this week the directors of the san francisco municipal transportation agency will vote whether to accept bids to turn the garage at moscone center into affordable housing units. right now the garage is 53% occupied during peak hours ban bringsings in nearly $2.5 million for the city per year. the plan is to turn it into a 30320 foot tower with 650 hotel rooms and 100 affordable housing units, part of a broader city push to create affordable housing on public land. starting tomorrow, testing begins on the newly installed overhead message signs on the richmond-san rafael bridge to alert drivers when a new third bound east background traffic lane is open and when it is closed. that new third lane which is

slated to open at the end of april used to be the right shoulder running from marin county to the marin street exit in contra costa county. time now is 9:15. all proceeds from a benefit concert in ventura are going to victims of the thomas fire and last month's mudslides in southern california. last night's concert featured olivia newton-john as well as modern west, a rock country band founded and fronted by kevin costner. >> i'm glad people showed up. it's not that we have the best answer what to do. but those of house are lucky enough to not be affected realize we needed to be about something. so today is all these people contributing in whatever way they can about what happened and that's really -- it's a sense of community. >> costner grew up in the ventura area. his pregnant daughter had to be evacuated in the middle of the night from the thomas fire which grew into the largest recorded wildfire in california history. marvel's "black panther" is

poised to be an a bulk buster with positive reviews and early ticket sales. someone is accused of tricking people into not seeing it. it features a nearly all african-american cast and strong political themes. a self-proclaimed alt-right man announced a campaign to bring down rotten tomato scores for the movie by flooding the website with bad ratings. the campaign's facebook page has since been taken down. if you want to see only honest reviews on rotten tomatoes, go to the movie and click on top critics only. marvel is owned by disney which is the parent company of abc7. the new thriller based on the story of sarah winchester and the famously haunted mansion she built in san jose is on pace for a $9 million opening weekend. abc 67 news was in san jose for one of the premiere parties hosted at the winchester mystery house. guests could see some of the

of double lynn, a beautiful afternoon. still in the 60s by the late afternoon. let's skip ahead into tuesday where we've got 60s at the coast. a slight cooldown. we've got the on-shore flow. all of a sudden, it turns around and again, we're offshore. so we've got upper 60s to low 70s on wednesday through thursday. very subtle changes. we're anywhere between the upper 60s and middle 70s which still keeps us 10, 15 degrees above average. highs today on the warm end. we'll be in the upper 70s for san jose and palo alto. 73 san rafael. santa rosa, 75. and the accuweather seven-day forecast showing is the warmest day of the week today even at the coast quite mild. even when we see more of an onshore push, which we have right now, we're still well into the 60s coastline. upper 60s to near 70 around the bay and throughout the week. we're mild in the low to mid-70s. usually we have what we call

now ra recreational marijuana is legal in california, things are changing. one company is now taking reservations for tours that will soon put a spotlight on the local cannabis industry. some call it a budding industry. cannabis tourism is beginning to take shape in california in at least one local entrepreneur has plans to be part of it. >> the idea is to be an ambassador for this industry around the world. >> victor peno and his teem team at emerald farm tours are getting ready to roll in san francisco and the east bay. >> we have to inform ad come down to the consumer level and walk them through understanding things holding their hand. >> reporter: at a cost of $295 per person, the 4 1/2 hour trips are geared toward out of state tourists and a boot camp to bay area cannabis. visitors will stop at multiple dispensaries including barb bary coast in the soma district. >> there is a stigma.

by this afternoon, we will be warm. in fact, probably just as warm as we were yesterday. upper 60s to near 70 by noontime. by 4:00, some of the records will be falling here 9:00 tonight in the upper 50s. so how long can this can pattern last? i have the answers coming up in a few minutes. chris? >> thank you. we turn now to hollywood and uma thurman's explosve allegations about mistreatment. this morning she is accuse harvey weinstein of sexual assault and alleging that the director quentin tarantino put her in harm's way during a stunt. marci gonzalez has the story. >> overnight uma thurman performing on broadway by staying quiet about her newly reported allegations against harvey weinstein. after months of hints. >> when i'm ready i'll say what i have to say. >> reporter: "new york times" columnist maureen dowd writing thurman told her during a meeting in paris, weinstein wearing only a robe tried to

lure her in a steam room. she claims he pushed me down, tried to expose himself. thurman saying she told him the next day, if you do what you did to me to other people, you will lose your career, your reputation and your family. weinstein's attorney telling abc news he is stunned and saddened by what he claims are false accusations. >> there may be no one actor or actress who obviously is more enter twined in the career of harvey weinstein than uma thurman. so this particular set of allegations is all the more disturbing because they're practically synonymous with each other's careers. >> reporter: weinstein produced 1994's hit "flup pulp fiction," and the 2003-2004 "kill bill" films. where thurman drove that blue convertible. all three films directed by tarantino who obviously thurman also called out in the interview. saying tarantino forced her to

drive the car against her wishes releasing this behind the scenes crash footage she says gave her a concussion and serious bruises. she called that experience dehumanization to the point of death. we reached out to the tarantino for comment but have not heard back. >> the top democrat on the house intelligence committee is calling the gop memo about alleged fbi misconduct a political hit job. many of you saw adam schiff on "this week." he says republicans on the committee insisted the memo was about oversight of an agency biased against president trump in the russia investigation. schiff says he invited the fbi to come and talk to the committee. >> they voted against hearing from the fbi. when you do oversight, you haul them in under oath. you say why was this is and that included. the interest wasn't oversight. the interest was a political hit job on the fbi in the service of the president. >> it the republican response was that the memo concerns

whether unverified information can be used to spy on american citizens and that several hours were spent interviewing fbi agents. there were demonstrations up and down the california coast yesterday against president trump's proposal to open the coastline to offshore drilling. one was held at cal beach in santa cruz. the group save our shores says more than 1,000 people formed the words no drilling. a similar protest was held in laguna beach. people there held hands as they formed a line in the sand. yosemite's annual natural phenomenon called fire fall is so popular it's too popular. you'll soon need a reservation to see it. fire fall has nothing to do with physical fire. it's an illusion created when the setting sun hits horse tail falls at just the right angle and makes it appear as though a stream of fire is falling off the mountain. it happens two weeks in february. 50 permits are being issues for each day through the 26th on a first come first bes basis.

happening today, braving record cold, more than 1 million fans have descended on minneapolis to watch the super bowl. one team in search of its first title, the other trying to add to its legacy. maggie ruehle has a preview of the big game from minneapolis. >> reporter: good morning. the mood here in minnesota is the electric. we have met fans here for the patriots, eagles. some just want to see justin timberlake. everyone here is excited for game day. tonight it's a tale of two quarterbacks. on one sideline, tom brady, the 40-year-old quarterback getting better with age and trying to add ring number six to his collection. >> it's a lot of experience. i think what it comes down to is a lot of times doing it and the things you have to say and i'm there at this point. >> reporter: on the other, nick foles after carson wentz went down with an injury. the eagles are embracing their

but luckily for fans at the game, they get to be inside that warm heated domed stadium where it will be about 70 degrees. sounds kind of nice, chris. minneapolis, minnesota, maggie ruehle, abc7 news. >> thank you. the chp is asking people to designate a sober driver today as it increases patrols this super bowl sunday. the chp says during last year's super bowl, one person was killed in california in an alcohol involved collision and 41 others were hurt. that same day, officers arrested nearly 250 people on suspicion of dui. allstate highways in the bay area will be patrolled with a zero tolerance approach to drunken and drugged driving. not everyone is into the big game according to a new survey. sleep cycle found 25% of measures will not be watching the super bowl today. and here's another fun statistic. apparently a competitive game or the commercials just aren't enough for some people. 37% of those who obviously do

we have one to two fires a day and when you respond together and you put your lives on the line, you do have to surround yourself with experts. and for us the expert in gas and electric is pg&e. we run about 2,500/2,800 fire calls a year and on almost every one of those calls pg&e is responding to that call as well. and so when we show up to a fire and pg&e shows up with us it makes a tremendous team during a moment of crisis. i rely on them, the firefighters in this department rely on them,

and so we have to practice safety everyday. utilizing pg&e's talent and expertise in that area trains our firefighters on the gas or electric aspect of a fire and when we have an emergency situation we are going to be much more skilled and prepared to mitigate that emergency for all concerned. the things we do every single day that puts ourselves in harm's way, and to have a partner that is so skilled at what they do is indispensable, and i couldn't ask for a better partner.
