making news in america this morning. the underdogs do it. >> and for the philadelphia eagles, the long drought is over. >> philly stuns new england and tom brady. and the birds' biggest fans let loose overnight. we're live. breaking overnight, are american troops leaving iraq? eyewitnesses say a drawdown began just hours ago. plus, new details from the scene of the deadly train collision. passengers on board an amtrak train jolted awake. lawmakers weigh in on the latest tragedy. the 13-year-old star of the halftime show. philly-born celebs show their hometown pride. and the cutest moment of the night.

and we say good monday morning. if you're in philly, good evening, still. the partying -- >> has it ended? >> no. it's not been a quiet night in philadelphia. >> the underdog eagles defeated the new england patriots 41-33. in super bowl lii. the fans flooded center city, philadelphia, to celebrate. the city's first ever super bowl championship. >> you see some of those celebrations there. those were the calm ones. many of those celebrations, though, got out of hand with people climbing poles. a few actually fell, knocking themselves unconscious. rowdy revelers also flipped a car and started some street fires. now, philadelphia police released a statement saying there were several acts of violence in the overnight hours. >> yeah, eagles fans are also celebrating in minneapolis. maggie rulli is there, was there for the game. good morning, maggie. >> reporter: good morning, diane and kendis. it's a little bit chilly here.

that has not stopped the celebrations. analysts are calling what happened last night a shocking victory. but, every single philly fan we talked to told us they never doubted their team for a second. >> all: e-a-g-l-e-s, eagles! >> reporter: overnight, thousands of philly fans packed the streets of downtown philadelphia. >> i'm so happy. i've been waiting for this all my life. >> reporter: and yes, they climbed on just about everything. it's a celebration decades in the making. >> and for the philadelphia eagles, the long drought is over. finally. >> reporter: against the odds and with backup qb nick foles, the eagles soared over the patriots,41-33. >> you work so hard your whole life to get here. everything culminates. >> reporter: bringing home the vince lombardi trophy for the first time in franchise history. >> this championship means more to the city than a lot of championships mean to overs.

four hours before their flight. lucky for me, i'm flying out tuesday. i'll be fine. >> oh. >> luxury. >> tuesday, it will be ten degrees. it's minus 4 right now. i imagine the weather did cause some problems. >> reporter: negative 4 is the real temperature outside right now. that's about the same temp -- wind chill is negative 2. that's about the same temp it was when people were exiting the stadium last night. it was a major concern. about 60,000 people entering the freezing cold temperatures. i have to tell you. i was blown away with how organized the staff was. minneapolis had around 10,000 people volunteering over the past ten days. they've been everywhere, all over the city. greeting you when you exit the airplane. saying, welcome to minnesota. and even last night. we ran into people standing outside for hours giving people directions. we even met one guy named ryan. he had icicles on his eyelashes he had been out there so long. he was still smiling. the minnesotan friendliness is a

real thing. diane an kendis. it's amazing. >> maybe he started smiling last summer and it's frozen in place. it's not -- he was meant to s l smile. >> he can't move. >> good luck getting back. tuesday, by the way, the second busiest day expected at the airport. get there early. we'll check in with you again a little bit later. thank you, maggie. coming up, we're going to look at which commercials got the most attention. and espn will break down the game for us. we get to the other big story we're following this morning. the search for answers in another deadly amtrak crash. this time, a collision with another train. >> investigators say initial findings indicate a signal glitch likely sent the amtrak passenger train on to the wrong track. serena marshall has the details. >> reporter: a switch in a wrong position the likely cause of a deadly head-on train collision. >> there was bodies everywhere. the seats came up off the floor. >> reporter: nearly all of the

139 passengers injured. on the seven-car amtrak train. >> it just derailed. i was on the floor. i don't know much after that. >> the impact was bad. it ripped my chair right off the floor. >> reporter: two amtrak workers, the conductor and engineer, died in the crash. >> we've had a train derailment. at charleston highway and pine ridge drive. >> reporter: investigators say a track switch was set in a position that forced the amtrak train off the main track and on to a side track where a parked freight train sat. according to amtrak, signals were down. and the owner of the tracks, freight rail company csx was in charge of the tracks and the traffic. >> it was aligned for the trains coming down this way to be diverted into the siding. so the bottom line is, the csx train is parked in the siding. >> reporter: the investigation is ongoing, with ntsb investigators on the scene. >> we have not been able to find the event recorder at this time. the event data recorder for either train.

so we do not know until we get the -- the event recorder, if the amtrak train applied brakes. >> reporter: the freight company offered condolences to the families of those who were killed. and said it is working with tin vest gative team. the crash was avoidable. the third such incident since mid december, that has one congress member asking for action. senator blumenthal said inaction is inexcusable given the repeated incidents. >> congressional leaders were involved in the last crash. for amtrak. thank you. and house democrats are expected to release a memo today challenging the memo that says fbi and justice department officials abused surveillance powers. some republicans are saying they disagree with the president's claim that the gop document completely clears him. abc's david wright has more. >> reporter: the president insists the newly released gop

memo totally vindicates trump in the russia probe. many republicans on the house intelligence committee don't agree. >> i don't. i don't agree with some of my colleagues. >> i don't think it has any impact on the russia probe. and i was pretty integrally involved in the drafting of it. >> it would be a mistake for anyone to suggest that the special counsel shouldn't complete his work. >> reporter: republicans now defend the release of the memo saying it exposed a problem with the fisa warrant process. the safeguards designed to protect american citizens from government eavesdropping. but just three weeks ago, these same lawmakers all voted to reauthorize the fisa program, rejecting a bipartisan package of new privacy safeguards. congress passed the bill overwhelmingly. and the president signed it. democrats say president trump cannot use this issue as a pretext to fire the deputy attorney general or the special counsel. >> this would be an extreme

event and one that i say with some caution could create a constitutional crisis in this country. no one, including the president, is above the law. >> reporter: david wright, abc news, west palm beach. and breaking overnight, american troops have reportedly started to draw down from iraq after declaring victory over isis. western contractors say dozens of u.s. soldiers have been transported to afghanistan on daily flights over the past week. u.s. officials would only say that the presence of coalition troops in iraq will be condition based. coming up, how many people are expected to call out sick today? plus, the smart girl scout who knew just the right place to set up her cookie stand. and the half time star who got a selfie with justin timberlake.

oh, extremely strong winds caused extensive damage the in northwest florida, tossing around furniture and damaging buildings. powerlines were damaged also in destin. former usa gymnastics doctor larry nassar goes back to court today for his third and final sentencing. hundreds of victims have shared emotional experiences. on friday, the father of three of nassar's victims lunged at the disgraced doctor in court before he was tackled by bailiffs. nassar has already been sentenced to decades behind bars. ucla gymnasts honored the women. there were breathtaking floor routines at the events as well. june 30th is the last day you'll be able to buy compact disks at best buy.

part of the country. uma thurman is the latest actress accusing harvey weinstein of abuse. thurman detailed several sexual assaults by weinstein to the new york times. he admits making an awkward pass but denies any physical contact. he is threatening legal action against the star. thurman accuses quentin tarantino of being unsympathetic while filling kill bill. a former nfl player and an uber driver were killed by a suspected drunk driver. the colts say in a statement they are shocked and saddened by the traj ix loss. jackson was only 26. and time now for some sports from espn. >> yeah, they're breaking down

philadelphia's historic win. super bowl sunday. big one last night. >> big. should be a national holiday. or at least monday should be. super bowl lii. it was in a word, a supergreat game. no spaces. pete rites and the eagles. tommy trying to go for their sixth. this was a gutsy call on fourth down. direct snap to the running back burton. flips to it nick foles. >> he threw a touchdown pass and then caught one. no quarterback had ever done that in a super bowl before. tom brady, outstanding. patriots finally the lead. the first lead for them of the game. didn't last long. foles to zach ertz. the eagles take the lead. can they stop tommy? plenty of time for tommy to get down the field.
