proximity those are. the first is a double shooting at a denny's on 1st street and alma. the second investigation is at 9th and keys. multiple officers are on scene there. that's where we find matt keller. he is live at that particular scene. matt, what can you tell us? >> reporter: good morning, jessica. we're about a block away from spartan stadium and the crime scene unit arrived in the last 15 to 20 minutes. they just arrived and are going to start to document evidence here on the scene. this is a large scene. roads all around this area are blocked off. we've asked several officers on the scene about what took place but they are not commenting. a call went out just before 2:30 this morning. no confirmation on what happened to the person. not too far from here two people were killed in a shooting. police say they got multiple calls of shots fired on first street and alma avenue around

10:50 last night. officers found a male and female with at least one gunshot wound each. homicide investigators were called there and traffic was blocked off at first and alma. traffic is blocked off at ninth and key street and also on humboldt street. it looks like san jose police will be out here for quite a while. matt keller, abc 7 news. matt, thank you. 5:03 now. do not look at your 401(k) and try not to panic. >> but do be aware. we could be in for another stock market drop at the opening bell. the dow saw its biggest single day decline yesterday. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live for us this morning. amy, help. >> reporter: reggie, stay calm. we can get through this. the dow did drop 1,175 points yesterday. it is not considered a crash.

fires. the board of supervisors is hosting the day long event to provide information on housing after the october fires destroyed thousands of homes. the workshop starts this morning at 9:15 and goes until 5:00 p.m. at the board of supervisors chambers in santa rosa. if you can't make it you can watch the workshop on line. this week marks four months since the start of the north bay wildfires. sky 7 shows you what's happening now. this is what's left of the journey's end mobile home park in santa rosa. two people died there. 43 homes survived the fire. we are getting another encouraging update about ryan joseph, the high school wrestler in pleasant hill recovering from a spinal cord injury. there was a huge outpouring last night. lilian kim has more on that.

>> reporter: with raffle tickets, volunteers raised money any way they could. >> we're all here supporting ryan and love ryan. we're ryan strong. >> reporter: more than 500 people showed up at college park high school in pleasant hill. ryan suffered a spinal cord injury during a jayvee wrestling match three and a half weeks ago. his team was competing against a rival school. >> at the end of the day it's a freak accident. nothing we could have done. >> reporter: they are buying a lower floor mobility van, a vehicle with ramps that can accommodate a wheelchair n. addition to the van the community is anticipating other needs bound to come up and a go fund me page has raised nearly $200,000 so far. ryan's grandmother says he's been making progress. he can now talk and has feeling in his feet. ryan, his parents and a sister arrived at a colorado facility

last week and will remain there for the next three months. >> whatever they want him to do, he does it, and he does -- tries harder. if they want him to breathe five minutes on his own, he does seven. >> reporter: back home a community pulling for him. in pleasant hill, lilian kim, abc 7 news. berkeley residents are on edge after laptop thefts. there were 16 in january. also 32 attempted laptop robberies. many of these thefts and robberies happen at cafes near the cal campus. police are warning people not to leave their laptop unattended. >> take a good look at these surveillance photos. santa cruz police need your help tracking down a man suspected of robbing a u.s. bank january 10th. he is considered armed and dangerous. >> let's look at what's going on.

new hampshire woman who won more than half a billion in the powerball is now suing to keep her identity a mystery. >> you can see your vote updated on the bottom of your screen. we'll keep that up. >> reporter: in this morning's "gma first look" after winning a jackpot of more than half a billion dollars one woman is suing the new hampshire lottery commission for the right to remain anonymous. >> it is worth $559.7 million. >> reporter: lawyers say the plaintiff, jane doe, deeply values her privacy and wants to distribute her winnings far from the glare and misfortune that has often fallen upon other lottery winners. currently only six states allow winners to collect anonymously. >> the average consumer is not walking into a convenience store buying a lottery ticket and reading the fine print. most winners don't have an option to remain anonymous. >> reporter: the new hampshire lottery tells abc news while we

the consumer financial protection bureau. the bureau has also paused plans to test how equifax tests data. they remain under investigation by every state attorney general and faces more than 240 class action lawsuits. happening today a plan to eliminate criminal justice fees in san francisco that unfairly target poor defendants. president london breed plans to introduce legislation today. she says san francisco would be the first city in the country to wipe out criminal justice fees keeping people buried in debt and poverty. they can amass thousands of dollars per person. breed will be at a news conference at 11:45. the rising cost of doing business in san francisco is not only taking a toll on small businesses but contributing to blight. abc 7 news spotted dozens of shuttered storefronts along market, church, and castro streets. some have been closed for years. to curtail longtime vacancies the city is considering fines or penalties against commercial

landlords. >> i think that the amazon of retail has taken a toll on small businesses. >> monthly rents can range from $5,000 to $50,000 per month depending on the space. the city's land use and transportation committee will revisit this issue at a later date. hundreds of new residential units will be coming to downtown san jose if two proposed towers are built. the two davidson plaza towers "- would add about 650 units on west julian street. the towers would be 18 stories high. the developers say that people want to live in urban areas like san jose because it's walkable, is close to transit, entertainment and restaurants. city officials have not yet approved the project. an aircrew with the contra costa sheriff's office was in the right place at the right time in the middle of a training rescue when they spotted something down below, a cat got its head stuck in a tree. so they landed nearby and as you can see the calf couldn't get

out. so they broke the stump away to set the calf free. it's unclear how long it had been stuck there but the crew says it looks like it had been there a while. if you think your shoe game is tight, think again. >> you have to see this. watch your screen right now. a hotel in japan has a leg up on the competition. it's using self-driving slippers to get its foot in the door of this burgeoning market. this is located in a resort town south of tokyo. they meet guests at the entrance. the nissan technology sensors on two tiny wheels. some of them struggle a little. i'm definitely that slipper. i am that flipper that's askew. >> do people in japan wear the same slipper? >> it's like at a hotel all the slippers are the same, right? >> what hotel are you going to? they have slippers? you line them up like this?

consecutive day of record high temperatures. look at the split flow in the jet stream. we're right in between with high pressure firmly entrenched and keeping any chance of wet weather away from us. 72 at half moon bay and that's the cool spot. santa rosa, concord and livermore, 79. some of the warm spots. 78 in san jose and fairfield. richmond and san rafael and fremont, 77. oakland and san mateo at about 75. san francisco, 76. in the south bay we'll start off at 50 at 7:00. near 70 at noon. where will your highs end up? 76 in milpitas to los gatos. san jose at about 78. 51 at 8:00. noon, 65. look at that 4:00, 73 and 61 at 7:00. most of our temperatures will end up in the mid-70s, even 77 in fremont and richmond. a quick look at tonight's temperatures. low to mid-40s in our inland valleys. mid-40s to low 50s around the

bay and out to the coast. my accuweather seven-day forecast, could tomorrow be seven? could thursday be eight? could friday be nine? that would be incredible. the breezes bring the 60s back into the forecast sunday and into monday. hi, sue. we'll look at the north bay. yesterday we had a couple of problems on the richmond/san rafael bridge to the marin side. this morning is a whole different story. everyone is moving at the limit. no delays from richmond over to san rafael. looking at an eight-minute drive and no backup at the tolls. across the bay look at your golden bridge commute. four lanes in the southbound direction. the zipper truck moving over two lanes in the northbound and no problems with fog. everybody is moving nicely. you're looking at about a 20-minute ride. let's take a look at some of your mass transit options. we have 47 b.a.r.t. trains, no delays. caltrain is running on schedule and ace train number 1 is on time. their website was down. the gps was down.

morning. number three, a lot of anxious people watching wall street after a record breaking drop yesterday. we're going to bring you the opening bell live from new york at 6:30. number four, the high-profile lawsuit involving self-driving cars continues in san francisco with uber founder kalanick taking the stand. waymo claims a former employee who built its self-driving car stole trade secrets. number five, the big story weatherwise today, it could be our sixth consecutive day with record high temperatures as we surge 17 to 21 degrees above average into the mid to upper 70s this afternoon. and number six, we're following your tuesday morning commute. we have first reports of an accident before the san mateo bridge toll plaza. a couple of cars involved blocking lane number two. so that will cause some delays as you make your approach on 92 to the tolls. number seven, lady doritos? probably not. pepsico tweeted chips made just for women are not being developed despite word from the

we're going streaking. well, the weather is. >> meteorologist mike nicco says we've had five days of record highs, so can we keep that heat streak going? good morning to you on this tuesday, february 6th. you're never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. it was short sleeves -- i saw a lot of shorts yesterday walking around. >> i know when it gets in the 70s in san francisco, you get a little overheated. >> 72 degrees in san francisco is 102 degrees anywhere else. >> it's true. >> it was like 76 yesterday. it will be about 74 today, so another blistering hot day in the city. let's take a look at what's going on as far as live doppler 7. you can see it is bone-dry. that's one of the differences today from yesterday. we'll have more sunshine and the air will be much drier taking us from 44 to 53. 66 to 71 degrees. and by the afternoon hours 70 to 76 degrees.

and then still at 7:00 a gorgeous evening, 60 to 63. that's your accuweather 12-hour planner. we'll break it down into seven days up next. here's sue. going back to the san mateo bridge. after the toll plaza, it's a little bit lighter because a lot of folks are stacked up behind the accident. we'll look at our sensors in a couple of minutes. in the meantime we do have an accident reported. this one in the oakland/san leandro area. the left lane blocked. a vehicle on its roof, so speeds definitely involved there. we will take a look back right now. traffic seems to be getting by okay but if that starts backing up we probably would advise 580. we'll check back between the san mateo bridge and this accident in a couple of minutes. we want to get back to the breaking news in san jose. police there very busy this morning handling two investigations, and they're actually just one mile apart. the first one is a double

shooting on 1st street and east alma avenue. the second is an incident at 9th and keys. that first happened at a local denny's. the second one is where we find abc 7 news reporter matt keller there on scene gathering the latest. matt? >> reporter: good morning, jessica. all the attention is around a car wash here just down the street from us. we are at 8th and keyes street about a block away from spartan stadium and about a half mile away from happy hollow. traffic is blocked off in this area. the investigation is now getting the full attention of the san jose police department. crime scene unit arrived 45 minutes ago from another homicide scene. they can begin documenting evidence here. this is a large scene. roads all around, blocked off. we asked several officers what took place but they're not commenting. we also continued to ask to speak to a lieutenant or public information officer but so far no response. we do know that a call came in for this area just before 2:30 this morning for a medical

good morning. it was a tough day on wall street. analysts caution part of the ups and downs of the markets. it was the single biggest one-day drop in history. anxious traders as the dow plummeted 1,500 points before rebounding and ending the day still down more than 1,100 points. but befo racing to make changes to your 401(k), that big drop isn't signaling another great recession. >> the stock market has gone too far too fast. it is just appropriate to hit the reset button. if we look at the results from last year they're way above the normal historic averages. >> reporter: those historic highs, wage growth and job gains, a signal for the federal reserve to hike interest rates. leading investors to fear a correction. the white house is downplaying the drop as typical market seesaw. >> today's sell-off represents the ebb and flow of our stock markets. >> reporter: even with those drops one thing to keep in mind,

potential suspects. happening today santa clara county supervisors expected to put a petition to recall the judge in the brock turner case on the june ballot. that campaign against judge aaron perskey gathered almost 100,000 signatures. he sentenced the former stanford swimmer to just six months in jail for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman on campus. today's action is a formality. >> governor jerry brown has signed a bill granting protection for whistleblowers who report sexual misconduct. it was first introduced four years ago but the senate blocked it up until now. a victim of the north bay fires jumped in to help as flames returned to santa rosa. this time a runaway dump truck that caused a crash that erupted

into an inferno on the road. several cars burst into flames after the truck hit them yesterday. the truck had been hauling debris from october's firestorms. larry broderick lost his home. he saved other drivers. >> i started opening doors. i yelled for people to help. >> he's a hero. >> six people went to the hospital. police will examine the truck to see if the brakes failed. petaluma at 39 to napa at 58. and then look down the road from napa where it's not breezy.

a little cooler and 55 degrees. wanted to show you the next three days because they will be the warmest if the forecast. if you were with us yesterday the difference coming this weekend. temperatures near 80. i'll show you that in the accuweather forecast. problems approaching the san mateo bridge. we have a couple cars blocking the two left lanes. a look at our map sensors. you can see the red there and speeds slowing from 15 to 20 miles an hour approaching the scene. they have to get a tow truck because the vehicles are not drivable so expect delays getting to the san mateo bridge tolls. up in oakland another problem northbound 880. the left lane blocked and apparently debris on the southbound side as well.

this has now been recalculated to be closer to 23rd than 98 as the chp originally told us. delays on the northbound nimitz. thank you, sue. a majority of san franciscans say they support those red transit only lanes. a new poll shows 55% of the people support the red lanes. 30% oppose it. the red lanes can be found in the mission on geary boulevard, the mission on geary boulevard, parts of downtown, too. you can buy an app to buy caltrain tickets. you don't have to stop before you get on. the prices are the same on the phone as on the machines. you can buy tickets for multiple people on a single device.

books. vice president pence is not ruling out the possibility of meeting with north korean officials during his five-day trip to asia this week. his itinerary includes the winter olympics in south korea and north korea is taking part in the games. pence says he has not asked for a meeting but told reporters, quote, we'll see what happens. uc president janet napolitano expected to attend a two-day board of regents meeting after she was hospitalized for side effects from cancer treatment. officials say napolitano was back to her full schedule last friday. it's not clear what kind of cancer she has or what complications may have caused the hospitalization. her treatment is nearly complete. launching text to 911. it's encouraging people to call first and then text if you can't call. text to 911 is in its first phase and the system is not perfect. if you text from a location that happens to be close to the freeway the message will go to
