investment. today a federal appeals court judge in san francisco upheld an agreement requiring president trump to pay $25 million over a lawsuit of trump university. the university is no longer operating. one student wanted to opt out of the deal and pursue her own lawsuit which would have derailed the group's settlement. today's decision stopped that from happening. joining city leaders to announce legislation to eliminate criminal justice fees. abc7 news reporter melanie woodrow has this story >> a critical moment in your life where you want to dance both sides because this is what you know before.

many of us wary these days about the security of our bank account. >> a marin couple found $2,000 missing from their bank account. >> they thought this was a rerun about what happened to them earlier. victims of bank fraud last year and thought it happened between. they rushed to the bank and were shocked to find out who really took their money. they realized when they were out

shopping and debit card was rejected. >> they said this card won't cover your purchase and we said you must be joking. >> we just made the deposits into the account. >> so we gabecame alarmed and wt to the closest branch. >> reporter: a manager said someone had withdrawn most of their money. >> he said a bank took it. >> reporter: bank of america had taken nearly $2,000 out of their account. >> we were horrified and we said this is like stealing. >> reporter: the bank used the money to pay off the couple's b of a line of credit. the couple had been paying off the loan with automatic debit each month. bank of america claims their credit plan had been expired.

the bank would not refund their $2,000. >> we thanked the bank manager and went to police. >> reporter: the place turned them away and came to "7 on your side." the bank agreed to restore the money after all. telling us we ascertained that the consumers had not renewed their payment plan. so we worked with them to set up a new payment and returned the funds. >> we ended up getting a fund thanks to "7 on your side." >> by law banks have the right to take money from customer's accounts. it is called a right of offset. however the law puts restrictions on taking certain types of funds like retirement or social security.
