>> reporter: the deadline to keep the government open one day away. trump during a white house meeting demanding a tougher agreement on immigration or else. >> i'd love to see a shutdown if we don't get this taken care of. >> reporter: barbara comstock confronted the president. >> we don't need a government shutdown on this. i think both sides have learned a government shutdown was bad. it wasn't good for them. >> we are not getting support from the democrats. you can say what you want. we're not getting support from the democrats. >> reporter: in less than a month dreamers are at risk of deportation. nearly 700,000 undocumented immigrants brought to the u.s. illegally as children signed up for tekzs under president obama. trump wants to offer a path to citizenship for 1.8 million. his chief of staff under fire for saying potential dreamers were, quote, too lazy to sign up. >> the difference between 690 and 12.8 million were the people

that some would say were too afraid to sign up, others would say were too lazy to get off their [ bleep ]. >> i said some should have gotten off the couch to sign up. >> the motion is adopted. >> reporter: but not this time. the house approved a short-term funding measure last night and senate leaders on both sides say they're close to a sweeping two-year budget deal. while congress is close to avoiding a government shutdown, it appears lawmakers are nowhere near a deal on immigration and the dreamers. diane and kendis. >> all right, so it does continue in d.c., kenneth, thank you. the pentagon is preparing for an elaborate military parade later this year at the request of president trump. sources tell "the washington post" the president told top military brass, quote, i want a parade like the one in france. a reference to the bastille day event he attended last summer. the white house says it's an opportunity for americans to show their appreciation but critics say it will cost taxpayers millions of dollars. and democrats in missouri

have won a special election in a district that voted for president trump by nearly 30 points. democrat mike revis narrowly defeated his opponent in missouri's 97th district. the latest victory seen as a sign of a possible democratic sweep in the upcoming midterm elections. breaking overnight casino mogul steve wynn has resigned from his own company amid accusations of sexual misconduct. wynn denies the claims which he says are part of a campaign led by his ex-wife and in a statement here he says, i have found myself the focus of an avalanche of negative publicity as i have reflected upon the environment this has created, one in which a rush to judgment takes over precedence over everything else including the facts, i have reached the conclusion i cannot continue to be effective in my current roles. now, experts in the gaming industry say it's unclear what effect his resignation will have on the business. >> this is somebody who for the past 30 years other people have been following. could this be the last of the

big titans, you know, or does this just clear the way for the next generation? >> wynn was a big deal. he played a key role in the resurgence of the las vegas strip overseeing the construction of the bellagio, treasure island and later wind resort and casino. the bad publicity cost him nearly a half billion dollars. amtrak is investigating why an acela train came apart at 125 miles an hour. passengers describe seeing sparks and smoke and then they felt a sudden jolt when the cars detached. each acela is being inspected to make sure it doesn't happen again. this is just the latest in a string of recent incidents for amtrak. on sunday two people were killed when a train appeared to be on the wrong track in south carolina crashing into a freight train and on january 31st a train carrying members of congress crashed into a truck at a virginia railroad crossing killing one person. a man from saudi arabia who went to flight school in oklahoma is now under arrest

accused of lying about attending an al qaeda training camp before the 9/ attacks. the 34-year-old's fingerprints were on documents found at a safe house in afghanistan. he was recently certificate buyed as a private pilot in oklahoma. but his certification has been revoked because authorities consider him a terrorism risk. he's now charged with visa fraud. turning now to your money, more volatility in global markets overnight. stocks in asia were surging higher but then leveled off because u.s. stock futures turned a bit lower. american investors have been worried about rising inflation and interest rates but with futures only slightly lower this morning, there is some hope that today will be calmer on wall street. lots of volatility when it comes to the weather. snow, sleet and ice creating a slippery commute for millions this morning as a winter storm heads into the northeast. let's get a closer look at your forecast for this wednesday. good morning. but not such a great morning for

we're back with this image from the deadly earthquake in taiwan. an apartment building nearly laying on its side there if you can make it out. you can see dozens of people have been rescued from there and two workers trapped inside a hotel have also been found. and china is offering to help neighboring taiwan search for victims of the powerful earthquake. 59 least four people are confirmed dead. as many as 80 others are still missing. the 6.4 magnitude quake left dozens of buildings unstable as you saw in eastern taiwan. the force caused some structures to shift on their foundations, residents packed into shelters including a new baseball stadium. taiwan's president has promised every effort will be made to search for survivors. the national weather service is disputing claims that it's to blame for a bogus zeuner warning. here's a look at the message appeared on accuweather's phone app yesterday.

customers in the east, the gulf of mexico and the caribbean received that message. now, accuweather says it was supposed to be a test, but the message was miscoded when it came from the national weather service. the national weather service denies the coding errors. there is a new warning for parents about snapchat. after a new hampshire man was arrested for stealing photos from the accounts of teenage girls. the 21-year-old hacked the accounts of at least seven young women and posted their photos online. snapchat publicly displays users' photos for a short time and then deletes them but the content remains in their accounts. >> we've seen a large increase in the number of criminal cases as a result of social media apps. those crimes being child sex abuse, rape, kidnapping, possession of child pornography. >> it's not clear if the suspect actually knew the victims or if the women were minors when their accounts were hacked. a chinese company is showing off what it calls a megadrone that can carry passengers.

a vehicle seen here in a test flight is powered by electricity and cruises at around 80 miles per hour. a passenger can punch in a destination and the drone flies there automatically. no word yet on whether it will actually be sold to the public at any point. when we come back, a different kind of his toric launch. spacex just sent the world's biggest rocket into space. what elon musk is saying about the mission and what it could mean for the future of space travel. also ahead, a decision on a controversial plan to clean up the night life in new orleans.
