truck slides out of control and outside washington, d.c., watch as this pick-up crashed into a bakery. they're looking into why a plane skidded off the taxiway. and a school bus and mini van colliding. the bus striking a traffic light. so clearly lots of issues on the road. but by air, here at jfk, there were ground stops. we're talking about more than 1,000 flights canceled across the united states. nearly 5,000 delays and now the airlines are issuing waivers for the next storm coming in later this week. now to the battle over the budget. i was going to say the budget battle. the budget battle on capitol hill. senate leaders have reached a rare bipartisan deal. >> a vote on the two-year compromise is expected today. right there, on capitol hill. senate approval a likely, but it could fall short in the house. we'll get more from tara. >> reporter: senate leaders on both sides of the aisle are

claiming victory. they agreed to a two-year spending bill that would avoid a government shut down. >> this budget deal is the first real sprout of bipartisanship. >> i hope we can build on this bipartisan momentum. >> reporter: the deal includes billions for opioid, disaster relief and infrastructure, but it puts off immigration for another day and that's not cutting it for house minority leader, nancy pelosi. she gave a speech for eight hours on dreamers, undocumented immigrants brought to the country by children. >> this package does not have my support, nor a large number of members of our caucus. >> reporter: on tuesday, president trump wants a wall on the southern border in exchange for amnesty for the dreamers. white house spokesperson, sarah sanders says he welcomes a senate deal even if it doesn't include an immigration fix. >> i think we've made it clear that the budget deal should be a budget deal and members of congress like nancy pelosi

should not hold our military hostage over a separate issue. >> reporter: the senate bill has been sent to the house. they have less than 24 hours to secure votes on a bill that not only exclutes immigration, but raises the deficit. something most will reject. >> i can't imagine there's a whole lot of us wanting to vote for this. >> reporter: the president's chief of staff said they have no plans to extend the deadline, putting pressure on congress to act. abc news, washington. and in the russia investigation, a top democrat is calling on republicans to force two former trump aides to testify, again. congressman, adam schiff says corey lieu w corey lewandowski is not appearing and wants republicans to enforce a subpoena.

one of the president's top aides is resigning after two of his ex-wives made allegations of domestic abuse against him. rob porter calls the accusations simply false and outrageous. his exs are offering proof. his first ex-wife showing photos of a black and blue eye claiming porter punched her in the face more than a decade ago. and his second wife talked to the washington post about her marriage. she recounted an incident that happened just after their wedding. >> we were both yelling at each other. i disengaged to go take a shower and rob wasn't finished fighting, i suppose. at that point, he was still angry. and so he came and grabbed me by the shoulders here. and pulled me out of the shower in a rage. >> we are told that senior white house staff were aware for months of the domestic abuse allegations by rob porter's

ex-wives but were not aware of the full extent. the chief of staff, john kelly issued two statements about porter's resignation and first called him a man of true integrity and honor and it then said he was shocked about the allegations against porter and that there's no place for domestic abuse in our society. the pentagon's annual report about sexual assaults at military academies is out with a troubling finding. it says the number of assaults at west point nearly doubled during the last school year. it's it fourth year that reported assaults have increased there. they increased by one case at each school. and the mother of four is the subject of a search operation in southern illinois. she hasn't been seen in two weeks. she was reported missing by her roommate after she failed to return home. she doesn't live with her children but police say she is present in their lives and has no history of long absences. the state of michigan

confirmed the first pediatric death from the flu. a 51-year-old man dieed from the flu while on a ski trip to colorado. he was feeling fine and healthy when he and his wife left michigan. his family believes he caught the virus in route on the plane. and the flu is forcing the closure of several school districts in alabama as well as a catholic school in milwaukee. an alarming new report suggests drowsy driving causes nearly eight times the number of accidents estimated. they suggest drowsy driving accidents are vastly underreported. aaa says drivers should be getting 7-9 hours of sleep before getting behind the wheel. if you find yourself drifting off or not remembering the last few miles you have driven, pull over. >> so by that definition, none of us are supposed to be driving anytime soon. >> i don't drive to work --

swiped the photos from several teen girls in his home town of new hampshire he had the photos they thought would disappear from the app reappeared online, the victim went to police. >> she realized the account had been logged into somewhere she was not. >> reporter: snapchat lets you share photos or videos that disappear in 10 seconds or post content that is automatically deleted in 24 hours. >> it takes someone to really know what they're doing to hack into an account and take pictures. >> reporter: this, where a hacker reposted stolen pictures. in september, a 17-year-old washington high school student was arrested after a classmate reported her social media accounts were hacked. the hacker found nude photos and shared them with other students. >> we want to make sure that people like that that are

you dad's version in the this thursday, february 8th. >> announcer: from abc news this is "world news now." good morning to everybody on this thursday. we're going to start with what has been a fire storm for the white house. one of the president's top aides leaving the administration following domestic abuse allegations by his ex-wives. >> he was supposed to stay in his position as staff secretary to ensure a smooth transition but now he'll be out by the end of the week. we have the details on the allegations against him. >> reporter: he's one of president trump's top aides, a trusted adviser from day one. his staff secretary right by his side in the oval office. but rob porter resigned amid allegations he physically and verbally abused his two ex-wives. the women coming forward to tell their story in the daily mail and the online publication, the intercept.

dehumanizing. his second wife says, he came to the shower and grabbed me by the shoulders. and telling the authorities he punched in the glass on the door "i called the police afraid he would break in." the allegations seeming to catch many in the west wing by surprise. does the president have any concerns about these domestic violence allegations raised against rob porter? >> i haven't spoken about the specific concerns? >> you haven't talked to the president about -- >> about whether or not he has specific concerns, i haven't asked him that question. >> has he seen photos of his ex-wife with a black eye? >> i don't know. >> and john kelly called him a man of true integrity and honor. in his first statement about porter's resignation. >> kelly issued a second statement saying he is shocked by the allegations and there is no place for domestic violence in our society.

but he stands by the first comments about porter. you hear the title, office of the staff secretary. it might not sound like a very important role but this is a position that is normally called the nerve center of the white house. because this is a person responsible for all the paper work that gets to and from the president. so he really is in the nerve of the oval office. >> i'm sure this won't be the end of what we hear on the case. and a vote is expected today in a bipartisan budget deal brokered by senate leaders ahead of tonight's deadline to keep the government open. the two year bill offers an additional $300 billions in military and domestic spending and raises the debt ceiling with strict spending caps. the legislation does not address immigration, despite a threat from president trump to shut down the government if he didn't get the immigration changes that he wanted. but the president is now supporting this bill. >> while president trump threatens shut downs and stalemates, congressional

leaders have done the hard work of finding compromise and consensus. >> i hope we can build on this bipartisan momentum. >> that said the bill faces an up hill battle in the house from conservative budget hawks and liberals. the house minority leader, nancy pelosi held the floor all day yesterday, speaking for a record eight hours straight in four-inch stilettos, mind you to protest the absence of a solution for dreamers, young immigran immigrants brought to the country as children. pelosi wants house speaker paul ryan to promise to open debate on the issue like majority leader, mitch mcconnell did in the senate. rex tillerson is warning that russia is already trying to mettle in the upcoming elections. the russians can easily adapt to any counter measures. tillerson says the u.s. thooz continue to make it clear if they don't stop, they will, quote, invite consequences.

and the government is revealing that russia successfully hacked into a small number of u.s. voter registration roles. the head of homeland security says 21 states were targeted and hacked and managed to infiltrate several of them. but there's no evidence the registration roles were altered. north korea is making it clear, they are not interested in meeting with the u.s. at the winter games. kim jong-un's younger sister will be part of the north's official delegation at the games. she's the first member of the ruling family to ever visit south korea. rumors circulated that a meeting of the north korean and american delegations could happen. their official statement may have ended hope of that happening. the vice president is on his way to south korea overnight after speaking to u.s. troops at a base in japan. pence told them to stay vigilant, not fall for north korea's diplomatic attempts.

during his stay in japan, pence said the u.s. would unveil the toughest and most aggressive round of economic sanctions on north korea ever. search and rescue teams in taiwan have been working around the clock to find survivors of the deadly earthquake. at least nine people were killed and hundreds injured in the quake. it toppled buildings in the coastal city. with aftershocks still rattling the city, at least 67 people are still missing. and snow turned the city of lights into the city of slush filled streets. paris is digging out from its heaviest snowfall in 31 years. six inches fell in the french capitol. >> and paris has been the argument for climate change with the floods a week or so ago and now this unusual snowfall. and snow from a major storm turned the northeastern u.s. into a dangerous mess. take a look. it's just moving offshore in the northeast. it's still drenching parts of the south.
