francisco-based twitter. the social media company just announced minutes ago, it had a first quarterly profit in history. return to revenue growth in the fourth quarter. they've been doing pretty well on wall street despite the roller coaster this week. stock increased in pre-market trading. investors are wary because it's been a rocky road for twitter lately. they've dealt with abuse, fake accounts and attempts by russian agents to spret misinformation. they've also been plagued with -- woun of the top executives left the company. that happened just last month. back to you. >> jessica, thank you. elon musk celebrated being able to launch a red tesla into space but they can't get the timeline straight end out on the ground. >> p people are getting kind of angry. matt keller live from santana row this morning.

matt? >> reporter: good morning. the making of the model 3s have been painfully slow for the company and customers. a delivery on the less expensive vehicles has been delayed yet again. you remember in the people bay area waited in line two years ago to put a thousand dollars deposit down for the model 3? it starts at $35,000 before incentives. last night, some of those people have taken to twitter saying delivery might be delayed nine months or until 2019 maybe. tesla announced in its earnings report, it made 2,425 model 3s last year. they didn't know if they'd meet the goal this year. he added if we can send a roadster to the asteroid belt, we can probably solve this. reservations for the car remain stable despite the delay. it looks like customers will

have to continue to be patient. reporting live in san jose, matt keller. abc 7 news. hi everyone. an update here on a san francisco police officer that's out of the hospital this morning after a confrontation with a suspect in san francisco. police actually from the tenderloin station say the officer was chasing the armed suspect near 7th and market last night when he knocked her to the ground. police actually tweeted that officer was treated and released overnight. want to show you that tweet. that officer doing okay this morning. the suspect, 19-year-old dante oliver, also accused of breaking someone's nose. that suspect was arrested on multiple charges, including robbery and assault on an officer. back to you. >> happening today, the suspected drunk driver accused of killing chp officer andrew camilleri will be back in he was driving more than 120

mirs when he rear ended camilleri on christmas eve. he's charged with first degree murder. he's appearing in court for a bail hearing today. various outrage and questions this morning after a confidential letter from san francisco interim mayor mark farrell venture capital firm. a letter says his company will benefit from farrell being mayor. reporter vic lee has the story. >> reporter: interim mayor mark farrell says from the day he was sworn in as the city's top politici politician, he's taken a leave of absence from his company which invests in travel technology companies. >> as a mayor, i've taken a leave of absence. >> as further proof he means it, he signed this agreement initiated by his firm and sent to the city attorney. he was officially on leave that he would receive no compensation and that he would not perform any job duties. but now, this letter has

surfaced. a confidential memo written by his company's managing director, chris hemter. it says in part, farrell's 4 1/2 months term as mayor will become an advantage to the long-term benefit of thayer ventures. >> i was shocked to hear that it was written. >> one of the supervisors wondered if it was a conflict of interest. >> my next thought, there should be an investigation into the validity of what is outlined. >> we asked mayor farrell if he had seen the letter before it was september. >> no, i didn't see the final letter. i understand why that was sent. >> why? >> well, as my partner mentioned, to assure our investors that after being mary would be returning. >> then why, we asked, was there all this controversy? >> i think he discussed that that was a poor choice of words. >> thayer ventures did not return our call. here at city hall, most of those

not on camera said the letter does not look good but it's no smoking gun. vic lee, abc 7 news. >> to be clear, farrell will not be running for mayor in june. other candidates say it's misleading and unfair that san francisco board of supervisors president london breed is dried as acting mayor on the ballot. breed's campaign manager said under city election laws the job you have at the filing deadline is the title before your name on the ballot. breed was acting mayor when the june 5th mayoral election closed. breed's camp issued a statement say if the other candidates want to challenge her ballot title as it was approved by the department of elections, we have no objection. happening today, san jose mayor sam la give his state of the city address. it's to honor city employees and contributions by community members. it's not clear what he will focus on. but the city has been dealing

with the homeless as well as the housing crunch. good morning everyone. it's thursday. we have just a little patchy fog out there. changes are arriving this afternoon. i still think we're going to see a few records, but not everywhere. live look outside. visibility is pretty good if you are headed out for a bike ride or on the bay. no problem. we'll have a lot of sunshine again today. in fact, it will be above average. but if you're waiting for the bus, it's a little cooler in the inland valleys. about 40 this morning. around some neighborhoods, 50 around the bay. mid-40s inland. we're looking at the coast. as much as 13 degrees cooler by the afternoon, though. 11:00 getting towards the afternoon, mid and upper 60s. where are the changes? basically san francisco to pa specifica half moon bay. 50 in concord and san jose. fog is with us from napa to livermore. 2 1/2 mile visibility in napa.

time in the south bay, you could see another record today with mid 70s here. a beautiful afternoon. not quite as warm elsewhere. we're looking at 72 in oakland. this is all relative, right? we've been well above average for over a week. 72 in santa cruz. tonight, temperatures in the 40s. we'll look at the accuweather seven-day forecast in about ten minutes. sue. we're taking a look to the east shore freeway filling in a little bit. starting to busier out there as the commute gets pushed forward. into the macarthur maze, you're moving solidly. no delays once you've reached the toll plaza except for the cash paying lanes. if you've got the fastrak, you are moving nicely into san francisco as well as the carpoolers. no metering lights yet. but it's looking to fill in there. 30 minutes from hercules into san francisco. 40 minutes into the altamont. we have estimated clearing here for the chp. this accident, west 24 ramp to

behind the wheel. watch as this woman barely misses other cars or this man gets thrown from his car. each professionals are vulnerable with cops blaming this pile-up on a drowsy truck driver. >> fedex truck hit me in the back. >> new research from aaa suggests they're vastly under reported. up to 10% of crashes are caused by drowsiness. the aaa foundation put cameras in cars to watch drivers. >> you could look at whether their eyelids were drooping, if fair eyes were closing for extended periods of time and use that to determine whether they were drowsy or not. you can look at video in the seconds and minutes leading up to crashes, really as an additional layer of insight. >> we'll tell you how to stay safe on the road at 7:00 a.m. with your gma first look, i'm diane macedo, abc news, new york. it's 5:15. gavin newsome's affair came to light in 2007. it's resurfacing as part of the

gubernatorial race. the woman said it was not a case of workplace harassment. she was newsome's employment secretary and the wife of newsome's campaign manager when the affair began. some are seeing the relationship under a new lens in light of the me too movement. however, she wrote on facebook she does not feel the movement applies here. she writes yes, i was a subordinate but i was a free thinking 33-year-old adult married woman and mother. she continues, i can't blame anyone for my part in this ugly episode. tonight governor newsome's lead in the race for california governor is dwindling. a new poll shows that fellow democrat is closing the gap. newsome, the lieutenant governor at 23%. ville rah gose a at 21%. that's a virtual tie. john cox in third place with 9%. public policy institute of california recently conducted the statewide survey ahead of

four in the southbound direction and two in the northbound direction. you're at the limit off the waldo. there was some roadwork coming through the tunnel towards the bridge. that should have been picked up by now. nonetheless, it's early enough. it's still pretty light out there. taking a look at the commute out there. green is good. we have drive times. there's your commute over the altamont for just over 45 minutes. highway 4 westbound to concord looking great. there's your commute from san rafael into the city. not bad at all. thank you, sue. happening today, the city of philadelphia will celebrate the eagles super bowl victory. organizers have been preparing for days for this parade. they're expecting up to 2 million people to show up. the city has closed schools, museums, courts and government offices. this is a celebration that has been decades in the making. the last time the eagles won the championship was before the championship was before the super bowl era 1960.

along. no stalls or accidents. we did have an accident in front of golden gate fields. but it was on the frontage road. not actually on the freeway. maybe some slowing, maybe it is visible from the freeway. let's pop down to san jose. 280 in the northbound direction. past the 17/880 overcrossing. underneath it i should say. about an eight-minute drive from downtown san jose. it's a nice looking commute in the south bay so far. good morning. i'm jessica castro at the live desk. i want to show you this new video. a house fire in the south bay has sent three people to the hospital. you can see here, heavy smoke coming out of a duplex in los gatos. this is on dard nellie lane. not far from winchester boulevard. it happened at 10:00 p.m. last night. when they arrived, two people were injured but made it out to the front lawn. they later found a third person who needed to go to the hospital. the extent of injuries is

unknown at this hour. investigators say the flames were mainly in the attic area of the unit and right now there is an investigation into the cause. the next door unit also had some smoke damage and right now, unfortunately, a total of five people are displaced. they have to find somewhere else to say today. back to you. >> thank you, jessica. happening today, we expect to learn more about a lawsuit being filed over damage from last year's massive flooding in san jose. >> hard to believe it's been almost a year now since the rain-swollen anderson reservoir caused coyote creek to flood hundreds of homes. 150 flood victims are now suing several local, county and city agencies. officials warned them way too late about this impending disaster. water officials say they've taken steps since the disaster to prevent future flooding. after a flood was caused by copper thieves, this building will be closed.

they were checking out the damage and crews vacuumed water from the floor yesterday. the highway patrol believes the thief stole copper tubing from the roof and that caused water to cascade through the dmv ceiling. happening this morning, the prime minister is coming to town. >> when we say that, we mean the prime minister, the canadian one who was greeted more like a rock star in so many places, including the offices of some of the biggest names in tech today. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live at sfo for the arrival of justin trudeau. >> reporter: good morning, natasha. the prime minister lands here at 9:30 morning and has a full day of meeting planned. this is the second leg of his u.s. trip. we have video where he started in chicago. now he makes his way here. he says he is here to strenthe states and canada. his first meeting in san francisco will be a roundtable discussion on diversity with tech leaders mark benny off.

he meets with jeff bazos. toronto is in the running to get the amazon facility. the prime minister might use this as an opportunity check in on that proposal. do a little convincing, maybe. tomorrow, first thing in the morning, he has a 45-minute meeting with governor jerry brown and then meets with lieutenant governor gavin newsome. after all of that, he'll head to los angeles. he's set to speak at the ronald reagan presidential library. one goal is to explore the possibility of more high-quality jobs for canada. reporting live at sfo, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. amy, thank you. congress set to vote today on a budget deal that would avoid another government shutdown. >> senate leaders announced the deal yesterday. it would fund the government for two years and includes billions of dollars for opioid treatment, disaster relief, infrastructure development and defense spending. a couple of things are not included. there is no deal on how to

address immigration and also it does not provide any money for the president's border wall. a firestorm in the white house. one of president trump's top aides has resigned. this after two ex-wives have come forward saying he abused them. staff secretary rob porter is denying the claims. the women told the story in an online publication, the intercept. his first wife released a photo of her black-and-blue eye saying that porter punched her in the face more than a decade ago. abc news senior white house correspond depth cecilia vega is covering the story and she explains why porter is still on the job. >> the white house said he would stay on the job to oversee a smooth transition. i'm being told in the wake of the release of the photos and very public interviews by these two ex-wives, there's a renewed sense of urgency, george, to get him out of this job. sounds like he'll be leaving much sooner than expected. >> many wondering if he was properly vetted by the white house.

a 17-year-old boy is under arrest in connection with a deadly san jose shooting. the shooting happened early tuesday on key street near 7th. police say the boy was in a car seen driving away from the area. they stopped the vehicle, they arrested him a short time later. the victim identified only as a man. his name not released. no motive has been given for the shooting. the search is on for two people repeatedly vandalizing the same building in richmond. a member of the police department shared this photo and you can see the graffiti on the side of veterans memorial hall on 23rd street. two male suspects have been tagging this wall between midnight and 3:00 a.m. and one will typically stand on the corner as a lookout. they've been seen in a gold or champagne-colored honda. the department of interior will hold a meeting to discuss the expansion of oil drilling off the california coast. opponents will be there to protest. the trump administration announced plans to open nearly all offshore waters to oil and gas drilling. state officials are opposed. they also say the public hasn't

been given enough opportunities to give their input. it looks like california voters are pretty evenly split over a move to nix the gas tax. according to the institute of california, 47% support the repeal. 48%, though, oppose it. the 12 cent hike wept into effect in november to raise money for road repairs. they're collecting signatures to force a measure on the ballot to repeal the increase and require a vote of the people to raise fuel tax in the future. good thursday morning everyone. waking up to some fog in our inland valleys. also right here along the coast. so we're looking at a cooler start for you. and a live look outside. it looks clear for the most part here in san francisco. so hitting the roads or the commute trains or the bay. looking good. we're looking at clear conditions and the winds not too breezy. it is 56 degrees in san francisco, 49 across the bay in oakland with 50 in mountain view. 45 morgan hill.
