pipes. >> this mess is happening on el camino real and notre dame. abc7 is live at the scene with david lui with the very latest on this. >> reporter: cleanup crews have been very hard at work in floodwaters that were two to three feet high just a couple of hours ago. crews have been trying to repair that pipe that broke almost 10 hours ago, not only leaving the water three feet high here, but in a house basement around the corner. it was a 12-inch cast iron pipe first installed in 1955 broke and flooded a church and school. then as drains got clogged from mud and debris, the water found its way to backyards and a basement. >> nine months ago we moved in and we lost absolutely everything. >> reporter: these are photos of her flooded 1,800 square feet basement, a rarity in this

neighborhood. >> within 40 minutes it was five feet and two inches of water, all we could salvage was our wedding album and the kids photos and our passports. >> reporter: the water did damage to st. matthews church and school. the school's gymnasium may have suffered the worst damage. >> our gym is so pretty and it's just beautiful and it's so sad because we just redid it and now it's all ruined. it's super sad. >> all that's being assessed right now, right now it's cleanup focus and obviously the repairs will be the next phase. >> reporter: crews from restore ration service companies have been working all day to clear mud from clogged drains, the water service has the job of pumping out the water created by the broken main and replacing it. >> we'll determine if age, condition, soil conditions, material led to this failure.

and if so, we'll take a look at replacing that main. >> reporter: classes for 600 students were cancelled due to the flooding. traffic on el camino was shut down from four lanes to three for the cleanup. a crime spree led to a police chase and a massive man hunt in vallejo. it started with sonoma sheripol were called to a home invasion, in both robberies, one victim was shot, one of them died. the chase ended with the suspects crashing into a fire hydrant.% the sonoma sheriff says the robberies appear to be marijuana related. >> the homes did have some evidence of marijuana growing. so it's going to take a little bit more time to investigate what happened.

>> police were able to arrest three suspects but two are still on the loose, authorities say they should be considered armed and dangerous. a woman desperately calls % 911 while she's hiding in her bathroom as more than half a dozen people were ransacking her home. this happen e ed in freemont onn little foot place. just terrifying? >> reporter: a really wild story because so many family members were inside the house when this happened. they say they have lived here for 18 years and nothing like this has ever happened before and obviously they're pretty shaken up. the family has some idea about how these burglars who were masked entered the house, the family thinks that they came right through the front door. they think that one of the family members hadn't fully bolted the front door, had sort of turned it but that door didn't fully lock. those burglars once inside began demanding money and ultimately got away with cash, jewelry, lap

tops and cell phones, in the process three family members were injured, they were pistol whipped. >> we always felt safe and and d not had anyone take anything from us. but we're careful. belo we love this neighborhood and this doesn't change it. >> reporter: he says that neighborhood watch here is talking about some steps that they can take. he also says that his wife was dragged from one room to another by her hair. all of this while two children, two teenaged girls were inside the home. so of course they are extremely shaken up. but say they plan to stay here in this neighborhood. if you have any information that can help, you are asked to contact fremont police. >> boy, that is really scary, melanie, thanks very much. the drug enforcement administration the dea is saying little about a raid at a smog check business in san jose. dea agents, sheriff's deputies

and highway patrol officers swarmed the shop on south first street. one person was arrested. no word yet on the charges involved here. the incident reportedly sparked confusion at the nearby sacred heart community services. our media partner, the san jose mercury news reports, people reported falsely that an i.c.e. raid was about to take place. a collision of a mc bus and a car killed one woman. it appears the car may have run a stop sign and both police and mc transit are selecting. abc news reporter laura anthony talked with the family today. >> this is the worst day of my life. >> reporter: calvin zachary told us he had a bad feeling as soon as he saw the little red car depicted on the morning news,

the one involved in a fatal collision with an ac transit bus. just a few blocks from his berkry home. the same kind of car his 27-year-old daughter kelly drives. >> i just noticed a red vehicle and i had a gut feeling i probably need to get over there and see what was going on. and so, yeah, i got the bad news. >> reporter: zachary says kelly celebrated her 27th birthday just last month, she was going to nursing classes at night and working at the irs during the day. >> it's unclear if it was possibly a run of a stop sign, we just don't know at this point. >> reporter: the two vehicles careen on to the porch of a home on ashby avenue. >> i heard a bang and i heard it hitting my car that was in the driveway and then my porch. >> reporter: calvin zachary says he just happens to be an ac bus driver. all he can think about right now is the daughter that he lost.

abc7 news reporter shows us why these residents are taking a stand. >> reporter: an emotional day for some of the victims of last year's coyote creek flood. >> i'm a tax paying citizen, and i really feel that demographically, we were just swept aside, like the flood. >> reporter: lawyers representing 150 families filed a lawsuit today against the

cities of san jose, santa clara county and the san jose water district. they're saying the city failed to warn them and they believe the flooding was preventable, accusing authorities for not properly maintaining the dam that caused coyote creek to flood. >> this floodwater was toxic, nobody should have been expose to ill. >> reporter: the city attorney's office says it does not believe san jose has any legal liability and has all legal claimsunder - responsibility for evacuation within city limits. as for the water district, they say they have taken positive actions to reduce the risks of future floods, including lowering the water level at anderson reservoir and removing downed trees and invasive vegetation in the creek. city officials say the flood caused $73 million in damages.
