>> it's saturday, february 10th. good morning. and thanks so much for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with a first look at the forecast. here's meteorologist lisa argen tracking live doppler 7 for us. hi lisa. >> high chris. cooler temperatures are arriving today. winds are kicking up in the higher elevations. live doppler 7 showing clouds around. livermore good morning to you. 44 degrees. 53 in los gatos. winds up to 27 miles an hour. over in the east bay still 12 to 15 miles an hour. the highlighted areas where we will see the windiest conditions from 10:00 today through midnight, the wind gusts could be up to 55 miles an hour, and out of the north-northeast. just drying out the a. 40s inland. 50s around the bay. low 50s at the coast by

noontime. upper 60s in the afternoon. seven to 12 degrees cooler than yesterday. we will track any rain chances in the accuweather seven-day forecast coming. this morning san francisco police opened an internal investigation after man says officers wouldn't help him find his stolen vehicle. on thursday the man spotted his own van and followed it for hours until he finally confronted the people behind the wheel. abc7 news anchor dion lim spoke to him about the vigilante search and seizure. >> we name all of our vans, this is kathleen. >> reporter: when sharky rented out kathleen and it didn't come back on its due date. >> we knew something was up. i knew they used a fake id. i cannot report the vehicle stolen. >> reporter: for california law you can't report a rental lost or stolen until it's five days after past due. sharky documented his frustration on twitter which

caught the eye of san francisco supervisor jane kim. >> i think there are changes to state law that can be done to better distinguish between imbezelment car theft and identity theft. >> reporter: in sheer luck, as sharky is going home from the dentist that day he sees the stolen van on sutter street in front of him. he called sfpd. and after being told their hand are tied decided to take matters into their own hand. >> followed him. >> reporter: they ended up at 17th and mission and finally reached the van one block over on valencia. >> that's when david and i hatched this plan we were going to go over there and bluff. >> reporter: after telling the three people inside the stolen van that police were on their way sharky got his keys back but not his sense of satisfaction. sfpd gave us this statement saying in part they are investigating the matter

internally. >> we know this is factoring into some of these break-in issues and facilitating it. we want to be part of the solution. >> reporter: in san francisco, dion lim, abc7 news. prosecutors will seek the death penalty for a man found guilty of killing two sheriff's deputies. after the jury hound handed down the verdict the convicted murderer have youed to unleash more violence. >> i will kill more cops, too. >> you heard it there. he said he is going to kill more cops. he shot and killed danny oliver and mike davis back in 2014. the sheriff of sacramento county praised the jury's decision. >> this certainly is a good, positive first step. and i'm certain that it will be the first step towards a long road towards justice. >> the penalty phase of brack montes's trial is set to begin next month. this morning three people

are recovering from injuries in southern california following a crash involving canadian prime minister justin troe due's motorcade. an suv purned in front of the procession that was leaving the reagan library in simi valley last night. the prime minister was knots hurt. and his vehicle was not directly involved in the crash. but a chp officer was taken to the hospital. the driver of the suv and her son were also hurt. the prime minister is in los angeles following his visit to san francisco. he wrapped up his two-day visit to the bay area at the fairmount hotel in san francisco yesterday. there he met with governor jerry brown as well as lieutenant governor gavin knewsome. his meeting with the governor focused on climate change. ontario and quebec have an agreement with california to lower greenhouse gas emissions. >> the fact that we have so much work to do together as friends and as a planet. >> the president is awol, he is absent without leave on the climb challenge. so we have to make up for that and be as creative as we

possibly can. >> huge crowds followed trudeau wherever he went. the prime minister has promised to visit san francisco again soon. at the fairmount hotels governor brown spoke with abc7 news in an exclusive interview. he talked about his plans for after he leaves office, climate change and a possible endorse men for who replaces him. you can find it on our abc7 news app. scroll down in the app and you will see it labeled as exclusive, abc7 talks to library brown. the lunar new year is next friday. governor brown helped ring in the new year at the chinese consulate last night. he talked about talking with xi yu lin about climate change. he also says california's stance on immigration is different than washington's. >> we are welcoming at our universities and our country. temporarily in washington there are a few people that dent like

immigrants so much. i will not mention who those people are [ laughter ] . but they don't represent california. >> after the speeches, officials held a toast to the year of the dog. happening today the annual flower fair in san francisco, which also celebrates the lunar new year. it's held in chinatown and features a colorful display including a lion dance. families can pick up flowers fruits and candies for their celebrations. today it begins at 10:00 a.m. it uns runs through sunday. there are several street closures in chinatown because of the fair. the new transbay transit center in san francisco may not open until august or september. the business times says construction snags are forcing the i dla. it was originally set for completion late last year. once it's open the transit center will bring 11 bay area transit systems together in one locate. it will feature a five story building with a bus plaza, retail pop up spaces, and a roof

top park. construction began in 2011. there is a new proposal that would ban tackle football in california until high school. lawmakers are citing growing concern overhead injuries and the potential danger to young athletes. the bill is set to be taken up this spring. if passed, california would become the first state to set a minimum age requirement for tackle football. it would affect thousands of children who play pop warner. the tackle football league is for kids 5 to 15 years old. similar bills have been proposed in new york, illinois, and maryland. oracle arena was packed last not. but not for the warriors. televangelist joel osteen was in the bay area for his night of hope series. katie utehs has more. >> reporter: pastors joel and victoria osteen take their mega church sermon on the road once a month. >> we come to lift people's

down but they are still going to be above average. right now, temperatures are in the 40s and 50s. it's pretty mild at the coast. 54 degrees. it's much warmer than yesterday. so everyone pretty much trending warmer at this hour than they were yesterday. 50 in concord. it's 51 in fremont. as a result you will notice the yellow here indicating the warmer start to the day, especially on the coast. up in novato. as we look outside, you will notice visibility is pretty good. looking at to the only the winds today. but that increases the fire danger. they are an offshore component out of the north. that will dry out the atmosphere decrease the relative humidity and make things ripe to spark perhaps a fire. hopefully not. cooler sot, tomorrow, thou monday and the dry weather continues into next week. here's where we expect the winniestness conditions. from the north bay. highest elevations could see winds up to 55 miles per hour. they could be sustained at 25 to 35 miles an hour.

keep that in mind if you are out for a hike or a bike ride. even the east bay hills. you are going the see breezy wind. in the next few hours. 3:00 in the afternoon, yellows, the double digits here. winds gusting out of the north. windier tonight. 35 to 40 miles an hour winds from the delta through the napa hills of even the coast will be quite breezy. as we get into sunday things really calm down. temperatures will be much cooler as well starting out early tomorrow. as we look at sunday, noticeably cooler, upper 50s to low 60s. monday the cooling continues, a few more low 60s. then the numbers come back up three to five degrees on tuesday as the system departs and the numbers rebound. san jose today at 70. should be in 60s. it will be cooler. the coolest day looks to be on monday. temperatures continuing to drop tomorrow. then we are back up by the middle to the end of next week. elsewhere in the south bay, look

i'm chris nguyen. we are starting this half hour with a quick look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen, who is tracking the conditions where you live. >> the sunrise is about 35 minutes away. you can see from walnut creek it's not going to disappoint. pretty out there. high clouds. 50 in san jose. on the coast it's mild. 54. upper 40s in oakland. and our exploratorium camera showing it is a nice mellow start to our saturday with 47 in livermore. napa checking in at 46. upper elevation winds gusty already from the north bay. the east bay not as windy but above hoff moon bay gusts to near 20 miles an hour. this is the highlighted area where the national weather services thinks we could see winds gusting excess of 35 miles per hour up to 55. from mount tam it is a nice start to the day. 40s and 50s. 60s by noontime. as much as seven to 12 degrees cooler today. highs topping out to in upper

60s inland and around the pay. chris. >> lisa, thanks. president trump has blocked the release of the democratic house intelligence memo. the memo was a rebuttal to the already released republican memo which claims the fbi abused surveillance in the russia investigation. the white house pointed to fbi concerns that the democrats' memo contains classified and sensitive passages, but says it can be released with certain revisions. the fbi had the same concerns about the republican memo. nancy pelosi tweeted, this move by president trump performs that his decision the release the nunes memo was a blatantly political move made without concern for national security. hypocrisy is on full display. what does the president have to hide. an abc news source says the president's chief of staff may be willing to step down over his handling of a growing domestic abuse scandal.

meanwhile, david sorenson denies claims of abuse by his wife saying she was the one who hit him. >> reporter: president trump defended his former top aide rob porter who resigned as staff secretary after allegations of domestic violence from two ex-wives. >> he says very strongly yesterday that he is innocent. so you will have to talk to him about that. but we absolutely wish him well. >> reporter: the president made no mention of the women accusing porter of domestic abuse but instead commented on porter's state of mind. >> he's also very sad. >> reporter: chief of staff john kelly under fire about what he knew and when he knew it. earlier this week, kelly called porter a man of true integrity and honer auto. but after a photo surfaced of porter's first ex-wife with a black eye kelly distanced hymns. abc news learned the president is furious over how the crisis was handled.

so much so that he is considering replacing his chief of staff. sources say kelly signalled he is willing to resign over it but a white house spokesperson denied that and said kelly is here to stay. porter's second ex-wife says the white house may have known all along. she said that she told the fbi everything. >> i was candid and frank and detailed with them about my marriage. >> reporter: there are now questions over how rob porter was able to do his duty as staff secretary with only an interim security clearance. the white house says the fbi is looking into it. but he's not the only white house staffer with a temp temporary security clearance. our sources tell us that the president's son-in-law jared kushner is also using an interim security clearance. abc7 news washington. a southern california assembly member who was a leader of the me too movement has been accused of sexual misconduct. christina garcia took an unpaid leave of absence. yesterday. two men have accused garcia of

improper sexual advances towards them. they denies the allegations and asked for a thorough investigation. san francisco police are asking for your help this morning identifying a suspect caught on surveillance video stealing from a taxi driver. it happened near 11th avenue and geary avenue on january 17th around 1:15 a.m. when this suspect exited a bar, haled a cab and stole the driver's bag and then took off. you are asked to call police if you are information about the crime. the flu is not letting up. health officials say 36 californians under the age of 65 have died from the flu in the first week of february. that's more than any other week this season. this compares to 23 deaths the week of january 14th through the 20th. and 30 deaths during the last week of january. that's seven more deaths from the week before. u.s. public health officials say this year's flu swine is as bad as the 2009 swine ep deck democratic.

the cdc reports one in ten deaths last week were caused by flu or familiaria. pediatric deaths are now 63. overall, one in 13 visits to the doctor last week was for threw symptoms. officials say the flu season peak could be several weeks away. a bizarre story that ends with a woman saying she flushed her pet hamster down an airport toilet. spirit airlines is denying the claim that aaron officials told the woman to do it after they wouldn't allow the roadent to apply with her. the florida woman says the pet was an emotional support animal. she says she called spirit guys to make sure it was okay to bring her pet named pebbles but had he she went to get on the plane in baltimore the animal wasn't allowed onrd bo. out of options the claims she was forced to flush the hamster down the toilet. 6:34 is our time. 31 dogs, many of them puppies were rescued this week from a vicis situation in the central valley. leslie brichkly introduces us to

the dogs who are getting a second chance at life. >> reporter: these dogs were excited to ends up at this ped food express store in pan ole. they were found abandoned in a homeless encamp men in merced, including crusher a 7 week old that was crushed by a.showing cart and is getting over surgery. and there is little beans, 3 weeks old, abandoned in a shoe box in a park in tow thiularep y bam beth was abandoned herself. she has become little beans surrogate mother right now. >> we will get boxes of puppies left out in an almond orchard. >> there are natural disasters. but what people don't pay attention is there is a disaster every day in the central valley. they are inundated with dogs. strays, puppy breeders, dog fighters. >> they cast away the ones that won't make money. whatever they continue to breed or continue to sell they keep.
