hey there, mike. good morning. it's a dry morning, too. look at this on live doppler 7. you may notice it, your hands may be dry, your lips may be dry, your voice may be coarse this morning. the air is only going to get drier the next 12 to 24 hours. temperatures starting by 7:00 in the mid-30s inland. total sunshine today and the breeze is relaxing. it will be comfortable in the upper 50s. a nice day to be outside at 4:00, sunny and mild. 59 to 62. and at 7:00 still comfortable, 49 at the coast. the rest of us around 52 to 55. if you are celebrating whatever it is this evening, take a light jacket. here's sue. we're taking a look at the golden gate bridge which is a beautiful ride this morning. no problems whatsoever. hardly a car in sight. you can see there's no fog out there, so it's a smooth ride. right now three lanes in both directions, north and southbound. they will be reconfiguring that for your morning commute. here is what's happening for a

time, all lanes blocked eastbound 80 before highway 4 in hercules. a multicar accident. they just cleared that about 20 minutes ago, and you can see by the green sensors everybody is now moving at the limit through the area. sue, thank you. we have new details on a scary flight from orange county to san jose. >> everybody is okay this morning but they had to go down emergency slides to get here. abc 7 news reporter matt keller live in san jose. matt? >> reporter: good morning, reggie and natasha. how frightening for these passengers. thankfully they made it here to san jose safely just after midnight. they landed at 12:04 a.m., and they took off from orange county. that is four hours late, though. the trouble started as the plane southwest flight was pushing back from the gate in orange county at john wayne airport. the ground crew told the captain there was a fire at the back of the plane. evacuation slides were deployed and all 139 passengers and five crew had to slide down to get off the plane. one passenger posted her reaction on instagram.

another talked to us via face time. >> literally emergency evacuating our flight because it's smoking. oh, my gosh. girl, my heart is like beating. >> the stewardess at the front of the aircraft screamed evacuate, evacuate, evacuate because of the smoke coming out of the tail of the plane, lots of smoke. you could smell it. >> reporter: firefighters say the fire was extinguished quickly. five people suffered minor injuries but nobody went to the hospital. reporting live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. all right, matt, thank you. 4:32. we have new details emerging in the arrest of 49ers linebacker reuben foster on domestic violence charges. his girlfriend alleges he dragged her during an argument at a home in los gatos on sunday morning. the report says the encounter left the woman hurt, but the extent of her injurie has not been revealed. the woman told dispatchers

during the 911 call that foster owns several semiautomatic rifles. officers ended up recovering one firearm. foster met with team officials yesterday. the niners say they're still gathering information about the case. foster is currently free on bail. a few final words from a dying woman helped alameda county sheriff's deputies catch two suspected of killing her. we brought this to you as breaking news at 11:00 yesterday. a passing driver spotted the victim bleeding badly and crawling along tesla road in the hills east of livermore around 2:00 in the morning. she was able to tell police what happened before paramedics rushed her to the hospital and she died there. her information led deputies to a man and a woman in modesto. we don't know yet what the motive could have been. a move to silence the national anthem has sparked debate at one east bay school. >> the student leadership at san ramone's california high school pulled "the star-spangled banner" at school rallies.

lilian kim explains why. >> the rally got going and i realized there was no national anthem. >> reporter: the omission was unusual since rallies traditionally start with the national anthem. he was told student leadership removed the song due to what many consider to be racist lyrics in the unsung verses. in a letter to the school paper the student body president specifically noted the third verse which in part says no refuge could save the hireling and slave. he wrote this verse translated finds joy in the killing of african-americans. to think that our nation's anthem once had the word slave and land of the free in the same sentence leaves me speechless. but dennis has a different take. >> the importance of singing the national anthem to honor and respect those who have died and sacrificed their lives to protect the freedoms that us americans take for granted every day is much more important and unifying issue. >> reporter: cal high has struggled with racial issues before. two years ago racist graffiti

was found on campus including the bathrooms where someone scrawled whites above one toilet and colored above the other. the parents we talked with say the national anthem is sacred. >> how can you start an event without having the national anthem? >> they have to do the national anthem. it's respect for the country. >> reporter: as for the district a spokesperson says it just learned about the student leadership's position on the national anthem and is looking into it. in san ramone, lilian kim, abc 7 news. the u.s. education department will no longer investigate rance gender bathroom complaints. the obama administration ordered schools to allow students to use bathrooms that align with their gender identity. president trump rescinded the order soon after he took office. the white house now says it's up to individual school districts to decide the issue. civil rights groups say the administration's move could endanger the welfare of transgender students. a racially insensitive chant during a basketball game has turned into a teaching moment for students on the peninsula. the chant was aimed at students at mills high school which has a

majority asian population. during this game against burlingame, students were taunting their opponents' fans with the chant, we can't hear you. some burlingame students chanted back something that many interpreted as anti-asian. >> people from our school shouted back, we can't see you, referring to the eye shape and eye size of the predominantly asian population at mills. >> a lot of classroom conversations took place. each class has a student representative, and so classrooms were engaged in the conversation. >> student leaders at burlingame have apologized to mills students and the district administration says mills handled it graciously. happening today a permit center will open in sonoma county to help survivors of the october wildfires start to rebuild. the center will speed up the permitting process for homeowners of the 3,000 residential properties destroyed or damaged. it is located next to the sonoma

offices in santa rosa. the county will also hold a rebuilding community meeting on thursday. happening today the concord city council will consider approving money to provide police officers with body cameras and in-car cameras. under the proposal the city would spend $1.5 million for a five-year contract with the company exxon and that would provide body cams and dash cams f. approved the officers will have the cameras by september. let's talk temperatures. we'll go neighborhood level here with san francisco. the cool spot around west portal the upper 40s there. we have low 50s just about everywhere else and take it to ocean beach at 54. crissy field, 53. same thing in the financial, the bayview. 54 in potrero hills. you can see still a little breezy up in our hills. this is as breezy as it gets. the breezes will relax as we head throughout the day. and when they did relax you'll

notice that very dry air even more so. around the bay just a sun-sational day. all day sunshine. it won't feel as chilly as it did yesterday. my 12-hour planner for the peninsula, wall-to-wall sunshine. it turns into stars. we start at 45 at 8:00. 57 at noon. we'll be in the low 60s from 2:00 to 4:00. 58 at 6:00. 53 at 8:00. 39 up in the north bay at 8:00 this morning. by noon, 59. how about mid-60s for the afternoon hours, dropping back down to 46 degrees by 8:00. all right, we're a day deeper into february and we are nowhere close to any rain. you can see the chances, zero. i do have several dry cold fronts, so a roller coaster of temperatures in the seven-day forecast. here's sue. we have a 20-minute drive time from novato south on 101 into san francisco. you're looking at san rafael and our usual shot past the civic center and the parkway and north san pedro road.

12:42. check out the rain that is skirting the coast down in socal and up in the hills turning into scattered snow showers. it's not moving into the sierra, though. look at our snowpack. it's only 21% of average, 15% for the entire year. that is not good. mid-60s around san diego, los angeles, 70 in palm springs. everywhere else sunshine and mi mid-60s. tahoe is cooler than average. wednesday into thursday, back to average friday. there's a chance of light snow showers sunday.

don't expect much. >> yesterday afternoon on dwayne street and san jose firefight hers to resuscitate a dog and a cat. one person was burned. extensive damage to the home itself. the family of a man fatally shot by a b.a.r.t. officer is planning a protest demanding the d.a. file charges against the officer. he died last month outside the b.a.r.t. station. the b.a.r.t. officer reported hearing a gunshot and then seeing two men fighting on the ground. one had been shot in the leg. after the officer yelled for them to stop fighting, he fired at tindal. a gun was recovered but it's not clear who it belonged to. the family is asking the d.a. to file criminal charges. >> it's not about some type of revenge. it's about justice. it's about doing what's right.

>> i'm just sorry that i lost him. i'm sorry he was stolen. i'm sorry he was taken from me. >> the family plans to protest outside the west oakland b.a.r.t. station at 10:30 this morning. well, the white house continues to deal with the fallout from domestic abuse allegations against former staff secretary rob porter. now his first ex-wife who alleged abuse is speaking out saying she was living in constant fear. here's abc news reporter arlette saenz. >> reporter: good morning. the white house hoped the spotlight would be on infrastructure this week. instead they're facing more questions about that former staffer accused of dough mes ek abuse and now his first ex-wife is calling out two top white house officials. in a "washington post" op-ed, the ex-wife of former white house staff secretary rob porter says she was living in constant fear and left the relationship a shell of the person i was when i wept into it. holderness says she was dismayed when a white house adviser explained why she's not worried about porter's current girlfriend, white house

reaching out to the city's latino community about their immigration fears. he visited church congregations over the weekend and is elaborating on the message he's spreading. >> police are not someone to fear. we're here for them. we're here to protect them. we're here to keep their families safe. it was important for them to hear that. they need to know they can count on us to be there without fear of us enforcing immigration laws. >> chief eddie garcia says he knows more aggressive federal immigration actions are fueling deportation fears. garcia plans to visit more latino churches in the coming weeks to assure people that san jose police do not enforce federal immigration laws. the city of san jose has a new website where people can try to balance the city's budget for the upcoming year. the website is called balancing act and it lets people learn about public budgets and the choices their elected officials face in the budgeting process. you can submit your own proposal and let mayor liccardo know what

you expect to see. meteorologist mike nicco, what does it look like? >> in the north bay a noisy night as we thought it would be because of the winds. right now they're about 13 to 20 miles an hour, blowing across mt. tamalpais from north to south. gusts are faster in places like napa and up to 22 miles an hour. rest assured that is going to relax as we head through the morning. enjoy wall-to-wall sunshine. several dry cold fronts men our high temperatures will do a lot of this. let's look at our highs today. around 61 like at half moon bay to san jose at 65 degrees along with ukiah. we have 64 in morgan hill and santa rosa. 63 today in fremont and concord and palo alto, oakland and san francisco about 62 degrees. let's go inland, 42 this morning. noon, 60. 4:00, 64 degrees.

7:00, 55. high temperatures right around 62 in antioch to about 64 degrees elsewhere. 60 at noon in the south bay. 65 at 4:00. 56 at 7:00. all that sunshine and then temperatures will top out around 62 in milpitas to 64 in los gatos. tonight's temperatures more 30s in our inland valleys and around places like fremont and palo alto. you can see temperatures coolest tomorrow, valentine's day. a warming trend through saturday and another cold front brings us back to reality by monday. let's see what sue is watching. right now we'll focus in on the bay bridge. everybody's moving at the limit. behind the toll plaza, no metering lights but the left cash lanes look to be stacked up a bit. your drive time into san francisco less than 30 minutes at this point. if that's your drive or part of it, you can sort of gauge the amount of time then and there.
