we'll take a look at walnut creek and your commute from concord to pleasant hill and the 24 interchange where you're moving at the limit. not bad at all. we'll also take a look at the bay bridge where your traffic is flowing beautifully. if your commute takes you from hercules into the city, less than 30 minutes still, no metering lights at the bay bridge toll plaza. let's take a quick look at drive times at this hour. 580, 680, pardon me and 24 and there's your commute sgo dublin on 580 west. >> sue, thank you. >> we're hearing from worried parents and students in san francisco after ten kids got sick at school from a substance. one of the middle school students is actually in critical condition. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live in know i valley. amy? >> reporter: police have not said what the kids ingested. here's a look from sky 7 of one of the kids being wheeled to an ambulance by medical crews. a total of ten kids got sick.

one of the kids was classified as being in critical condition. we talked to some students and parents who suspect marijuana may be to blame. some tell us they're frustrated about problems at the school. >> sometimes when i use the bathroom, you can smell the marijuana. >> in the school? >> yes. >> the school has changed a lot. there's more fights and more drug use that i've seen and smelled. >> do you tell the teachers when you notice stuff? >> i tell our security guards, but they don't do anything. >> reporter: administrators here at james look -- middle school sent an alert to parents describing what happened and telling kids they will not be in trouble if they come forward to receive medical help. all of the students are expected to be okay. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. amy, thank

new fallout. the fbi is contradicting a white house timeline. there are major questions about security clearances inside the trump administration. abc news reporter kenneth moton has more. >> rob porter handled the most sensitive information. we know the white house continued to employ the top trump aide knowing he couldn't get a permanent security clearance because of his past. the trump white house's story shifting over who knew what and when about the domestic abuse allegations against the president's former staff secretary, rob porter. the white house first saying the fbi was conducting porter's background check when his two ex-wives alleged abuse. in a stung twist, the fbi director, christopher wray said they gave the white house reports four times starting a year ago. >> the fbi submitted a partial report on the investigation in question in march and then a

completed background investigation in late july. >> press secretary sara sanders shifting the blame to a little known office in the white house. >> the white house personal security office staffed by career officials may have received information. but they had not completed their process and made a recommendation to the white house for adjudication. >> revealed dozens of top officials including jared kushner don't have permanent security clearances after a year in office. the white house is refusing to comment. kenneth moton, abc news, washington. it's 5:04 now. whether to have an open debate on immigration. yesterday the much-anticipated daca debate appeared to stall before it began. no proposal seems to have the needed 60 votes of support needed to advance the proposal in the senate. lawmakers have hoped to reach a last-minute agreement by the end of the week. congress is trying to negotiate a plan to continue or modify daca. president trump announced last

september that the daca program would end on march 5th. happening today, family and friends of a san jose father detained because he was an undocumented immigrant. they will hold a pro tess to demand his release. this is individuvideo of his su. he was taken into i.c.e. custody in october after he dropped off his daughter at daycare. demonstrators plan to gather at i.c.e. offices in san francisco at noon. his family picked valentine's day to remind those detained or deported that they are loved. also happening today, the family of a young man shot to death in san francisco is preparing to sue the city, its police department and the guns' owner. he was killed in august. his family's attorney says the suspected shooter was in the u.s. illegally wearing an i.c.e. tracking device and used an unsecured gun stolen from an officer's personal vehicle. that officer remains on duty pending the outcome of the investigation. a man suspected of throwing a dog to its death off of a san francisco parking garage has an

extensive criminal history. police released a mugshot of joaquin best yesterday. he faces animal cruelty and burglary charges. police say he broke into a car on the 7th floor of the garage on saturday and threw this 4-year-old chihuahua named dunky on to the street. they arrested him on sunday. records show arrests for drugs and trespassing and his first record of arrest in san francisco was in 2003. when they're not on the frontlines fighting fires, crews from cal fire are occasionally set them. they're prescribed burns planned in advance and carefully coordinated with landowners. this was one in santa cruz yesterday. the bay area has yet to see a major wildfire this year. but with the current dry spell, cal fire is worried. >> the big goals of a burn like this, a prescribed burn, is, one, is the fuel reduction. if a fire were to start or come into this area, there's not as much fuel, that is, right next to each other. >> here's the forecast map to put things in perspective.

pass that along. >> appreciate it. thanks, jessica. a crackdown object fare evaders not on track. the goal is to track them with scanners by february 1st. according to the chronicle, the scanners had to be returned for repairs. b.a.r.t. has yet to require citation machines. the agency hopes to work it all out and start issuing citations by the end of the month. a local lawmakr introduced a bill to allow students who rely on medicinal cannabis take it at school. students with special needs or severe disabilities have to go off campus to take their medicine, typically in the form of capsules, oil or cream. the bill would allow a parent or guardian to give the child the cannabis. they say so it won't interfere with learning. he references a parent on the peninsula whose child has epilepsy and uses it to reduce seizures. the brutal assault and kidnapping of a 16-year-old girl who survived by pretending to be

listen carefully to this. gun sales are so slow right now. one of the biggest sellers just filed for bankruptcy. for 200 years remington has been one of the most famous names in guns. but with a pro-gun president in office, sales have actually tumbled. it's called the trump slump because gun buyers are no longer afraid there might be tighter gun control regulations, so they're not out there buying. remington is filing for chapter 11, which means they're hoping to restructure the debt and stay in business. there's a maximum decline in the number of immigrant students applying for financial aid under the dream act. as of monday, about 19,000 students applied. that's nearly 17,000 fewer than last year. the application deadline is march 2nd. the dream act provides state-based financial aid and scholarships to some undocumented students. santa fe officials narrowed

hoe. the suspect ran away. they shot and killed the suspect after a violent physical struggle. the officer fired his gun in self-defense. the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. the officer is on administrative leave which is standard procedure. the two people suspected of killing a 19-year-old woman and leaving her for dead on the side of the road are scheduled for a first court appearance. lizette cuesta spoke the names of her suspected killers before she died. abc news reporter is live at her high school in east san jose. matt? >> reporter: good morning, reggie and natasha. l lizette kwez that graduated here in 2016. her friends and family held a vigil for her last night. >> just a really genuine person. that's something that i will always remember about her and

speaking passenger told a flight attendant, he heard him mention a terrorist group. he was removed from the plane and questioned by the fbi. he claims that the incident caused him to suffer severe emotional and -- the city council passed a resolution declaring berkeley a sanctuary city for legal marijuana. the resolution banned city agencies from using money to enforce federal marijuana laws. also banned from turning over information on legal cannabis activities to federal agents. >> we're very lucky to be in a city that is such a staunch defender of what we're doing and supporting progressive policies in the face of adversity. >> in january, attorney general jeff sessions rescinded an obama era policy that barred them from interfering with marijuana sales in states where pot is legal. the berkeley measure doesn't prevent the police department

i'm tracking what's going to be dry cold front when it gets to our neighborhood. the clouds and the grayness moving into cloverdale. you can see it dissipating already. here's a look from the roof camera. you can see the flags aren't moving too much. it's not breeze you yet. it's going to increase along with the clouds. it's a quick hitter. mostly clear except for the breezes will lag behind the hills. a north bay and the winter chill coming this week. for today, we'll stop short of reaching 60 in half moon bay in san francisco, santa rosa and lakeport. 49 to 58 there. warmer in santa cruz, 64 to 63. you can see today in the east bay, already seeing clouds at 7:00. clouds are thickest at noon at 55. by 4:00, we're seeing more sunshine and 57. if you're heading out this evening, it's going to be 52 degrees. temperatures will drop down into the mid to upper 30s inland.
