>> we now know at least 15 people are dead according to two law enforcement officers speaking to abc news. the horrific death toll at this hour. at least 15 people are dead. we have also learned the suspect's name. nicholas cruz. unclear what his age is and it

is unclear whether he was a student at one point. it is not believed that he was a current student but he did have some sort of connection to that school. and of course, you see the scene there in that neighborhood not far from the school of someone handcuffed. believed to be in custody tonight. obviously it is somewhat rare that you would have a suspect in custody afterward. usually, as is the case in these shootings, these suspects often take their own lives. and these images from inside the school. >> holy -- [ gunshots ] >> you can their gunfire. this is from one student. a fire alarm was pulled not long after. you could see people with their backpacks, throwing they will in the street. students just running from the school. we saw a lot of s.w.a.t. teams

going from room to room. an auditorium helping those students get out. you'll hear from a number of them. we do know the fbi is on the scene and of course at this hour, they are working furiously to find out the possible motive and what his connection to the school was. >> exactly. law enforcement officials are all over this man's background. described as being roughly 18 years old. in addition to the fbi being at the scene, we're told the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms was at the scene. a full-court press to help the local police resolve the motive. the suspect's name is nicolas cruz. our entire team coming up shortly. world news across the country.
