not a quiet start. can't say that. sorry. >> it hasn't been a quiet start but the accidents are not impacting the speed and flow of traffic. we'll take you to interstate 80. we have a couple problems eastbound 80 at lagoon valley. there is a jack-knifed big rig blocking. traffic is flowing in both directions. earlier a hit-and-run accident reported. it may still be out there. here's the bay bridge toll plaza. a minor backup for the cash-paying lanes. the south bay, you see a stalled car to the right side. approaching 880, but traffic is flowing well for head lights moving northbound. no problems on the peninsula. here at the live desk, i'm tracking the latest developments in south florida following the shooting massacre at marjory stoneman douglas high school in lakeland. 19-year-old nikolas cruz was booked into broward county jail a couple of hours ago. this is a mugshot released within the last hour or so.

cruz faces 17 counts of premeditated murder. a law enforcement official says the gun used by the shooter was an ar-15-style rifle and was apparently purchased legally by pat least 17 people were killed in the shooting. more than a dozen others were injured. officials say cruz was a former student at marjory stoneman douglas who was expelled from the school. >> put your phones away. >> it gets me chills to see this. this moment gives you a little idea of what students and teachers went through yesterday. it captures the moment that police were arriving to clear the room. among the chaos, confusion were parents hoping that their kids were okay. this video shows the moment moms and dads reunited with their children after painstakingly waiting to make sure they were

safe. >> lieutenant governor gavin newsom tweets. our children are dying and we're doing nothing to stop it. i'm running out of words to describe my anger, frustration and sadness. if you're unwilling to demand reform, get out of office. >> he then replied to several republican leaders, including president trump who tweeted condolences. it was simple. then do something about it. steve kerr has been an outspoken critic of lax gun control laws. he criticized lawmakers after learning of the florida tragedy. >> it doesn't seem to matter to our government that children are being shot to death day after day in schools. focus on the real safety issues. not building some stupid wall for billions of dollars that has nothing to do with our safety. but actually protecting us from what truly is dangerous.

>> kerr's father malcolm was president of the american university of beirut. malcolm kerr was shot to death by jihadists in 1984. >> this is another sad example of shooter training at schools is so important. abc 7 news reporter lilian kim has more. >> reporter: open public schools have a lockdown drill twice a year. school and classroom doors are locked, blinds closed. recently the district added active shooter training. a private vendor teaches them how to run, hide and fight. 100 employees have gone through the training and more will be trained on friday. >> with sandy hook and columbine and aurora and paul's nightclub shooting, and las vegas and this shooting. this is an unfortunate occurrence that's not going to stop. >> shots fired. >> training is becoming more widespread. just a few weeks ago a drill was conducted at napa valley college. in this scenario, local police don't wait for a s.w.a.t. team

5:30 p.m. the mendocino county sheriff is asking for the public's help to find a woman possibly abducted by her boyfriend last we week. the 23-year-old was last seen getting into her boyfriend's sedan. they were involved in a physical confrontation. britton and her boyfriend, fallis have not been seen since. he's wanted for a prior domestic violence incident involving britton. they have until april to clean up toxic heaps. in santa rosa, officials are trying to make sure all properties burned in the october wildfires are cleaned up by april 9th regardless of who is performing the work. contractors cleared 62% of the sites, putting the government effort on track to finish in the next two months. about 1100 other burned properties exist where owners opted to manage the cleanup by hiring private contractors. an appeals court -- this

we're seeing is heading into the altamont pass. westbound 580 is heavy. slows out of tracy. the drive time along that stretch is now 40 minutes from tracy to dublin. there is a crash westbound for antioch to concord. that is 15 minutes. into hercules, westbound 4 cummings skyway, there was an earlier accident on the right-hand side. no problems on 101 heading from san rafael to san francisco. a live shot of 680 in walnut creek. things are getting more crowded for southbound traffic approaching highway 24. guys? >> thanks, frances. new details about a deadly car crash in los angeles involving actor luke wilson and professional golfer bill haas. the actor pulled a 50-year-old woman trapped in her car to safety. she has serious injuries. haas was a passenger in a ferrari that crashed into the woman's car. the ferrari clipped wilson's car before hitting a pole.

investigation about whether it and lyft are obeying state and local laws. last year, city attorney dennis herrera issued subpoenas to the two companies for information in eight categories, including miles an hours logged by drivers and incentives. herrera says uber refused to disclose the annual reports and fought the city repeatedly. lyft is now cooperating with herrera's request for that data. new developments about a tinder security report. a senator is urging the dating app to resolve security issues immediately after the report revealed vulnerabilities. last month a report found that hackers on the same wi-fi network were able to take control over profile pictures the user sees and swapping for inappropriate photos or advertising instead. oregon senator wants tinder to swipe right on user privacy and security and make fixes as soon as possible. it was a heartfelt valentine's day for t.j. carrie. >> he reunited with dr. frank hanley at lucille packard

an 18-minute ride. no problems making your way through san jose on highway 87 and looking good across the san mateo bridge. now, a live desk update from abc 7 mornings. good morning. the 19-year-old man suspected in the deadly shooting at a south florida high school is being questioned by authorities right now. nikolas cruz was booked into the broward county jail only a short time ago. in fact, the sheriff's department released his mugshot just before our newscast began. cruz is now facing charges after murdering 17 people and critically hurting five others. abc news reporter maggie rulli is live in parkland, florida, with the newest details this morning. maggie? >> reporter: jessica, good morning. this is one of the deadliest mass shootings in modern u.s. history. now investigators here in parkland are questioning students, trying to learn more about the shooter and his possible motive. overnight, suspected shooter, nikolas cruz was booked into the broward county jail as police

searched his home looking for any clues as to why just hours earlier the 19-year-old opened fire inside his former high school. this video showing the terror inside the school. the sound of gunshos too disturbing to broadcast. >> i heard the shots and then i saw the shooter run out by mr. feis and i saw mr. feis get shot. >> reporter: students, barely teenagers hiding under desks, fearing for their lives. >> we were just like praying and crying. >> somebody down the hall was screaming, like help me, come save me. >> s.w.a.t. teams swarm the school. >> he went from the third floor to the second floor. third to the second floor. he may have a gas mask on now. >> reporter: in the chaos, the shooter walks right out with the other students escaping. he was later arrested without incident. police say cruz was armed with an ar-15 rifle and was wearing a gas mask. school says he was expelled for disciplinary reasons.

faculty had been warned to not let him on campus. >> reporter: the school here is closed through the end of the week. the town has brought in grief counselors to help the students starting this morning. parkland, florida, maggie rulli, abc 7 news. reggie, natasha. a maggie. thank you for that report. some are calling for new gun measures. president trump says this is a mental health issue. >> a new tweet where he says so many signs that he was mentally disturbed, even expelled from school. neighbors and classmates knew he was a big problem. must always report such instances to authorities again and again. it appears a hero during the shooting has died. football coach aaron feis protected a student by jumping fween her and the gunman and pushing the student out of the line of fire. feis was shot in the process. there were conflicting reports about his condition. but the school's head football coach says feis' family was

the victim were all in the same courtroom together. it was tense and emotional. they're all expected to be back here again this morning. here is a look at the suspects in this case. 19-year-old daniel gross and 25-year-old melissa leonardo. a woman yelled at leonardo in court yesterday, "you will get what you deserve." gross is believed to have stabbed the victim. she's 19-year-old lizette cuesta. she worked with the two accused killers at a carl's jr. in tracy. she named her killers before she died. they have not said motive. cuesta was found bleeding on the road at 2:00 monday morning. she had crawled about 100 yards trying to find help. her father says hearing about her will to live gives him some comfort. >> i know how tough she was, how strong she was. show she had thowed that, alway.

professor behind the recall effort for judge aaron persky. he presided over the brock turner sexual assault trial. she received a letter with white powder in it. haz-mat crews evacuated the part of the law school building where they tested the powder. it turned out not to be harmful. she says the note was much different than others that she routinely receives. >> i get threats on a regular basis. but this one was really escalating because it included the white powder and it seems like a much more direct threat of violence. >> a stanford university provo says that the incident is under investigation by sanford police. she tells abc 7 news threats intended to silence or intimidate members are unacceptable at stanford. let's open up with temperatures in the north bay, it's freezing cold in ukiah and guerneville. everybody else starting out at
