give yourself plenty of time or take 280 and we'll check back. >> new this morning, from santa rosa, police are investigating a stolen car, a pursuit and a seven-car crash. these are the new photos just september to us by the santa rosa police department from west steel lane. this all started just after 12:30 this morning. apparently someone stole a white dodge charger. the owners chased the thieves leading to a pursuit reaching 100 miles per hour. the charger ended up crashing. at least one person was hurt. this is an ongoing investigation. we'll keep you informed. developing news now. we're learning that the alleged florida high school shooter had a long struggle with mental illness and a history of violence. >> sources tell abc news that nikolas cruz told investigators he told voices directing him to conduct the attack. according to the arrest affidavit, the 19-year-old confessed after being taken into custody. authorities describe the mind of

a suspect as warped and potentially demented. >> he shot the chickens across. he used to have a pellet gun and shot the chickens across in the back there. >> he like cornered a squirrel and threw rocks at it. trying to kill it. >> they received a tip on social media about a possible shooting, but the agency said it didn't have enough information at the time. >> we have been learning more about the 17 people killed in the shooting. their ages, they range from 14 to 49. they were students and teachers and coaches. we've posted a photo and information about each one of them on our website. abc7news.com. and on our news app. >> their stories are heartbreaking. thousands of people gathered last night for a candlelight vigil in parkland, florida, to remember the victims. >> look around and see your family members and come together as a family because that's how we're going to get through this. we are going to get through

how do new buyers get into this market? well, they better have a lot of money. this report is coming from the california association of realtors. it's looking at housing affordability across the state and in the bay area for the fourth quarter of last year. san francisco, san mateo and santa clara counties were the least affordable. here are the incomes you need to afford a medium priced home. san francisco, you need to make just more than $303,000 a year to afford the median home price of $1.5 million. san mateo county, is close behind at $302,890 a year. santa clara county, more than $256,000 a year. marin county, with $252,000 a year. >> i don't know how people come out here and make it or how young people out here are able to do it on their own. >> reporter: in the bay area, solano, contra costa and napa.

across the bay, over on 880 southbound before industrial, we had the two right lanes blocked with an accident. they're still out there. traffic is slammed all the way from 238 headed southbound on 880. >> sue, thank you. we are tracking the latest on the deadly school rampage in parkland, florida. >> police say the 19-year-old charged with killing 17 people and hurting 14 more has confessed to the worst school shooting in florida history. investigators say shortly after arriving at marjory stoneman douglas high school by an uber, nikolas cruz began to methodically fire an assault rifle concealed in a bag. he admitted to detectives that he then stashed the gun so he could blend in with the crowd and walk out of the school. he ended up escaping to a walmart. that's where he bought a drink at a subway. then walked to a nearby mcdonald's and that is when he got stopped. an officer recognized him from the description and made the arrest. >> it was an emotional tribute

overnight for the victims of the florida school massacre as disturbing details emerged about the suspect's past as well. thousands gathered for a vigil to honor the victims. stephanie ramos has the latest on that. >> reporter: overnight, thousands of people coming together in disbelief and grief. >> the rest of my days, this will always be engraved in my mind and i don't think if will go away. >> the names of all 17 victims were read out loud. >> some of the crowd chanting, no more guns. over the cries of friends and family. many of the victims, teenage students. one in the school's marching band. another on the way to college on a swim scholarship. some just in their first year of high school. >> just knowing that his seat won't be filled next time i enter that class is just

say one student has been removed from campus. now, over in oakland, the response there, they are going to be training their teachers in active shooter training today. here's an idea of what it will look like. this is a video of training being done at the napa community college for an active shooter situation. about 100 teachers in oakland have already gone through the training and more will complete the course today. not just teachers need to be prepared. a family therapist says parents need to talk to their kids about this. but advises parents they need to calm down their own fears before approaching their kids. >> don't lead them. you may be transferring your own fears, your own anxieties that they don't have right now on to them. >> here's a picture of what an air soft gun looks like. this is not the one they found in lafayette. but you can see from this picture just how realistic these guns look. they shoot little round pellets. they cannot kill someone. students did report seeing the

gun in the student's locker and administrators took action and police will be here on campus today. in lafayette, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news much. president trump plans to travel to parkland, florida to meet with families and local officials. a date has not been set yet. the president promises to tackle school safety and mental health issues in response to the shooting. he made that remark during an address to the nation yesterday. however, he made no mention of gun violence. the president's budget proposal would slash medicaid. that is the major source of federal funding for treating mental health problems. it would also cut school safety programs by more than a third. if you would like to help a go fund me page has been established for the victims of the shooting. it's raised more than $680,000 and now i'm looking at it and see that it's raised $732,000. so it has gone significantly up just this morning. we put a link on our website,

it often starts with a grooming phase. the scammers learn about your life, they send pre-written text messages professing admiration and eventually love. one 43-year-old woman says a man she get on facebook stole a thousand bucks from her. >> he said that he was a single father that he was a widower. he said that he was having problems paying his car. >> then he asked for her bank information and that was the last straw. according to a new report from the better business bureau, these scams have cost victims in the u.s. and canada nearly a billion dollars in just the past three years. >> apple's new cupertino campus certainly is beautiful. but it may be dangerous. according to business website market watch, there are at least half a dozen reports so far where employees have hurt themselves by walking into glass walls or doors. two people had to get medical treatment. apple is not commenting on the
