but so far no major damage has been reported. you'll remember a 7.1 quake rocked mexico in september killing 31 people. now to the latest on a cliff rescue here in san francisco. three people taken to safety just about an hour ago. >> this happened at marshall's beach south of the golden gate bridge. wayne freedman is there live with more. >> reporter: good afternoon, dan, it has been quite an average here at marshals beach and you, as you can see, just south of the golden gate bridge, three hikers who went for a stroll, it didn't wind up as a stroll, it wound up as a drama, as you can see here, they were not saying much when it ended. that was the after math and here is the main event. you're looking at sky 7 this afternoon as the san francisco fire department rescued three young hikers stranded above the beach. a precarious spot on a slippery slope according to temporary

battalion chief derek thompson. >> we had some teenagers that were going down the easy trail, and they decided to go down and got trapped halfway up the hill. >> reporter: the hardest part of this was locating the hikers, after having done so, they lowered the ropes and began the extry indication, they ticketed the trio for causing a hazardous condition. their level of gratitude, we assume the highest. >> what about the men who rescued you? >> they were nice. >> they were nice? were you in danger? >> no. >> reporter: easy to say in retrospe retrospect. an inmate is accused of attempting to kill a guard at the county jail in oakland. it looks like a weapon, but it's the tip of some eyeglasses that had been sharpened. the inmate is in jail on federal

steel casting company. >> if the thing had a chance of pl blowing up. >> reporter: employees at nearby businesses are -- they say there's also the issue of food piling up. >> there's rats and rats and rats. >> the police have told us their hands are tied and it's up to the city counsel to do something. >> reporter: berkeley tells abc news that the city counsel is aware of the site and issues there. frank johnson says he's been living here since his custom iron shop closed. johnson has his own suggestions for what city counsel should do. >> they should put some toilets in to make it easier for us to take a shower, get us a dumpster to put our garbage? >> neighbors call 311 often.

now to the latest on the shootings in florida. >> the fbi has determined that protocol was not followed. >> a stunning admission from the fbi, the agency says a person close to the confessed florid shooter contacted the bureau last month to report concerns, including his guns and desire to kill people. the fbi says it never followed up and did not provide the information to the miami field office. >> this is the nightmare where, you know, you look back and, you know, identify that there was perhaps information in your holdings that could have saved lives. >> and now florida's governor is urging the fbi director to quit and attorney general jeff sessions today ordered an immediate review and said that we must do better. president trump and the first lady are in florida but it's unclear if they plan to visit parkland where the shooting took place. trump said he visited some victims at the hospital. he also praised doctors who treated them. tonight mr. and mrs. trump plan

to meet with law enforcement. this comes as funerals were held for two of the florida school shooting victims today, family, friends and fellow students attended students for two students. one teenager was with one of the victims before the shooting started. >> she used to sit next to me and we talked about assignments and we had always -- >> take your time. >> 14-year-old alyssa was one of the youngest victims, meadow pollock was 18 and was making plans for college. a canadian cartoonist drew a little girl leading football coach aaron feis toward a large group of people, presumably toward other pictures, the caption read, come on mr. feis, so many of us want to meet you.

two dozen students staged a march today in support of the victims of the florida massacre. they also organized the march to take a stand against gun violence and support gun control. >> we want to make it very clear to our community that our lives and our right to go to school and our right to get an education and survive a day in school relies on how easy it is for someone to get a gun. >> they want to put a stop to lawmaker who is -- >> abc7 news anchor eric thomas looks at some of the differences between both states. >> reporter: the ar-15 rifle was used in this latest attack and several other mass shootings. it's a semi-automatic cousin of the one used by the u.s. military. and as of january 1, to 2018, t

the first day of this year of the dog had special meaning for two pets safely rescued in san francisco. >> it happened near the beach at fort funston. >> this all ends well for two dogs as they got stuck on a cliff. the fire department tweeted this video of the rescue, they're okay thanks to the fire station and paramedics. dog owners keep a close eye on
