shooting took the lives of 17 people. two of them both teenagers, laid to rest. >> what if that was your child that was shot three times n the heart n the hand n the head. think about it. >> reporter: the alleged killer pleading guilty in order to avoid the death penalty. no word whether the state will accept the deal. >> as the community hurts so do we. >> reporter: now the fbi reveals that on january 5th a person close to nikolas cruz called the fbi tip line with information about cruz's gun ownership, his desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts, and this, the potential of him conducting a school shooting. the fbi says the information should have been assist cessed as a potential threat to life but no further investigation was conducted at that time. students here are in shock. >> 17 innocent lives were taken from us because they failed to

do this. they fail our school. and they failed our hearts. >> reporter: the hoounts students here are heart broken and grieving. many are also angry and have take tony the streets to protest stricter gun reform. president trump was asked during his visit about gun laugs and he had no comment. >> this recent school shooting has put the spotlight on how agencies handle tips and warnings from the public. not only did the fbi receive warnings about the shooter months in advance there had been a long history of disturbance at the home where he lived. abc news anchor dion lim explains how his potential for violence slipped through the cracks. >> we truly regret any additional pain this has caused. >> reporter: a stunning admission from the federal bureau of investigation friday over the handling of not one but two overlooked tips regarding morge restoneman high school

shooting nikolas cruz. social media posts showed his obsession with violence and how he wanted to be a professional school shooter. all of this six weeks before 14 students and three staff were gunned down. abc news spoke with rik smith. >> they are supposed to disseminate that to a feel office, miami in this case. they decide to do a background, contact the school, interview the suspect hopefully neutralizing this. >> reporter: deputies were dispatched to cruz's home over 20 times in recent years. >> every one of these for service will be looked at and scrutinized. >> reporter: the congresswoman says this is a prime example of how different agencies on a state and federal level must learn to work together. >> i think that kind of a multiagency effort and coordination and communication is going to be key as we move forward. >> reporter: how that will happen, all parties agree s yet to be determined. in san francisco, dion lim, abc7

following a shooting in the pamgts of golden gate park. >> this is preliminary information. what we have is that there was some type of argument that ensued between group of people. >> reporter: police say the argument and shooting happened in the panhandle, the suspect ran north and carjacked a getaway vehicle. the stolen suv is a silver toyota forerunner. 7 aob 816. the driver is okay. police say they don't know yet if the victims and suspect knew each other. people who frequent the park say it's not uncommon to see a group gathering near stannion and oak streets. >> it has concrete. so it's kind of a grotto in the trees and there are often people there, often homeless people, you know, just kind of hanging out. >> reporter: investigators have not identified either victim nor confirmed if the men are part of the homeless population who live in the area. in san francisco, abc7 news. a powerful earthquake shook

mexico last night causing damage, but no known deaths. the magnitude 7.2 earthquake hit the state of oaxaca in southeastern mexico. this video from mexico city shows light fixtures rocking hundreds of miles away from the epicenter. nearly 100 homes and businesses have lost power. some people reported on twitter that they felt the earthquake in los angeles. last september two earthquakes in mexico killed more than 450 people. san francisco police are asking for help finding a man suspected of killing his grandparents in oklahoma. 45-year-old harlan fosse is said to be an experienced outdoorsman and could be living in a park or wooded area. he was last seen near aquatic park on january 10th. investigators in okay owe found his grandparents' bodies in november along the side of a road. fosse reportedly told coworkers that living with the couple was quote driving him crazy. 5:07 is our time. three people are okay this

morning after getting rescued from a cliff above a san francisco beach. sky 7 caught the dramatic rescue as it unfolded yesterday above marshal's beach. the hikers got stuck of a they took what they thought was a shortcut. they called for help with a cell phone. each them got a ticket from park police for creating a hazardous condition, a $250 fine. at long last, valencia road near valencia elementary school was compromised during last winter's destructive rains and had to be closed all but cutting off the community. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo has more. >> we couldn't go to work. we couldn't get the kids to school. it was scary. >> reporter: he lives in rolling green estates in aptos, along ag valencia road, which was closed since last winter's storms.

>> i had to go eight mile out of my way to go to work. >> reporter: it is also the best way to get to the elementary school. the closure was such an inconvenience all other students were relocated last year. the road sank after the culvert underneath it collapsed under the rain soaked soil. >> we had to dig all the dirt out, build retaining walls so people could work down there and replace the culvert. >> reporter: it took over a year and $4 million but the road is back in business. terry meade wasn't expecting it friday evening. >> it felt hike a christmas present. better than before. it should be able to last longer and if we get storms like we did last year we will be fully prepared. >> reporter: last winter's rain did $122 million in daniel at more than 22 cites in the county. the five biggest repairs are now

misconduct allegation is suing arguing he is being treated differently than a white colleague. he claims while he was suspended for the allegations against him, bob hurtsberg who is white was not asked to step aside despite allegations made against him had. he has been accused of sexually harassing three female staffers and firing another who reported one of the instances. hertzberg is accused of making at least three female colleagues uncomfortable with hugs. sports meets advertising. five people from the bay area will compete in the world sign spining championships. it's not as easy as it looks. professional sign spinners break dance while keeping up the energy. more than 100 will compete today in las vegas. last year a sign spinner from san francisco won the championship title with a $5,000 prize. still ahead on abc7

tomorrow. that's going to bring cooler conditions, windier conditions, up to to 45 miles an hour. locally low snow levels. we are talking 1500 feet. but a moist starved cold front so we are talking limited moist. and then freezing cold temperatures monday, tuesday, and wednesday in the morning. and below average in the afternoon. here's the setup for tomorrow. you can see the clouds, the cold air, the low snow levels to the north of us. not a whole lot of moisture except when we get into sunday night. you can see right here, a little bit offer shore. perhaps during the overheight showers, best chance of accumulating snow. back home we are just frosty and cold for several days. but we are going the add in the wind tomorrow. so 9:00 the winds are already gusty. but they get even stronger throughout the day. 1:00 in the afternoon, 25 to 30 miles an hour winds. and they ramp up to near 40 miles an hour throughout the day.
