good morning, bay let's get up and get going. >> this is abc7 mornings. >> it's saturday, february 17th. good morning, and thank you for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with a first look at the weather. here's meteorlogist lisa argen. she's tracking live doppler 7 for us. hi lisa. >> hi chris. good morning to you. big changes for the weekend. today will be much much warmer. live doppler 7 looking at the clear sky with the cool start. 37 in half moon bay. 44 in hey wad. 37 in morgan hill. two to six degrees milder this morning. that translates into above average temperatures today. in fact by noontime we are in the upper 50s to low to mid 60s in the bay. and inland upper 60s today. above average numbers. perhaps low 70s down towards the santa clara valley. then the clouds increase tonight. we are look at 50s, and

temperatures as much as 15 degrees colder with blustery winds for the-second half of the weekend. i will have a look at the week ahead, which looks wintry like coming up. breaking news outs of san francisco's richmond district. water gushing from a water main break is flooding great highway. this is near balboa street. the water main burst at around 3:00 this morning and nearby residents lost their water service. officials are currently working to stop the flooding and clean up the street. this morning, a call for action following a difficult week in parkland florida. >> just absolutely unacceptable and it's embarrassing to work there. >> a former fbi agent is talking to abc7 news about how the department failed to act on tips about the stoneman douglas high school shooter. it's been three days since a gunman killed 17 people. last night the president and first lady visited the sheriff's office and hospital. they did not visit the community of parkland.

maggie rulli has the latest. >> reporter: the president and first lady grieving with parkland friday night. >> very sad something like that could happen. >> reporter: offering their support to a community still raw after wednesday's school shooting took the lives of 17 people. two of them, both teenagers laid to rest. >> what if that was your child that was shot three times, in the heart, in the hand, in the head. think about it. >> reporter: the alleged killer now offering to plead guilty in order to avoid the death penalty. no word yet if the state will accept the deal. >> we are part of this community. as the community hurts so do we. >> reporter: the fbi admitted they were warned about the alleged shooter six weeks ago. the agency reveals on january 5th a person close to nikolas cruz called the fib tip line with information about cruz's gun ownership, his desire to kill people, erratic behavior,

and disturbing social media posts. the fbi says the information should be assessed as a potential threat the life but no further investigation was conducted at that time. students here are in shock. >> 17 innocent lives were taken from us because they failed to do this. they failed our school, and they failed our hearts. >> reporter: the students here are heart broken and grieving, but many of them are also angry and have take tony the streets to protest stricter gun reform. the president was asked during his visit about gun laws. and he had no comment. in parkland, maggie rulli, abc7 news. the recent school shooting put the spotlight on howenes ha warnings from the public. not only did the fbi receive warnings about the shootings months in advance, there had been a long history of disturbance at the home where he lift. dion lim explains how his potential for violence slipped through the cracks. >> on behalf of myself and over 1,000 employees of the miami feel office we truly regret any

official pain that this has caused. >> reporter: a stunning admission from the federal bureau of investigation friday over the handling of not one but two overlooked tips regarding the marjory stoneman high school shooter nikolas cruz. social media showed he was obsessed with violence and how he wanted to be a professional school shooter, all of this six weeks before 14 students and three staff members were gunned down. rik smith, a former fbi employee. >> they are supposed to disseminate that to the field office, miami in this case. they do a background check, enter notify the school and interview the suspect hopefully to defuse this. >> reporter: deputies were dispatched to cruz's home over 20 times. >> every one of these visits will be looked at and scrutinized. >> reporter: congresswoman jackie spears says this is a

prime example of how agencies on a state and federal level must learn to work together. >> that kind of multiagency evident and coordination and communication is going to be key as we move forward. >> reporter: how that will happen all parties agree has yet to be determined. dion lim, abc7 news. a tribute to one shooting victim is bringing many to tears. a canadian cartoonist drew a little girl leading aaron feis toward a large group of children, allegedly victim. the caption reads come on mr. fei we want to meet you. he iced his body to shield children. we have a go fund me page link on our website, abc7news.com. developing news this morning. san francisco police have a person of interest in custody following a deadly double shooting near golden gate park. it started last night with a shooting near the panhandle, and

ended with a carjacking a couple of blocks away this. morning police located the stolen vehicle behind an rv on alameda street. police say they fired a shot while trying to get the person of interest to leave the rv but no one was hurt. abc7 news reporter katie utehs has more. >> reporter: a 28-year-old man is dead. and another man has life threatening gun shot wounds following a shooting in the panhandle of golden gate park. >> at this time, this is preliminary information. what we have is that there was some type of argument that ensued between a group of people. >> reporter: police say the argument and shooting happened here in the pajd and then the suspect ran north and carjacked a getaway vehicle. the driver is okay. police say they don't know yet if the victims and suspect knew each other. people who frequent the park say it's not uncommon to see a group gathering near stannion and oak streets that that park has concrete so it's kind of a grotto in the trees. there are often people there. often homeless people, you know,

just kind of hanging out. >> reporter: investigators have not identified either victim nor confirmed if the men are part of the homeless population who live in the area. in san francisco, katie utehs, abc7 news. a powerful earthquake shook mexico last night causing damage but no known deaths. the magnitude 7.2 earthquake hit the state of oaxaca in southeast eastern mexico. this video from mexico city shows light fixtures rocking hundreds of miles away from the epicenter. some people reported on twitter they felt the yaik in los angeles. last september two earthquakes in mexico killed more than 450 people. san francisco police are asking for your help finding a man suspect of killing his grandparents in oklahoma. 45-year-old harlan fosse is said to be an experienced outdoorsman and could be living in a park or wooded area. he was last seen near aquatic park on january 10th. veltors in oklahoma found his

grandparents' body in november alone the side of a road. fosse reportedly told coworkers that living with the couple was quote driving him crazy. 6:08 is our time. three people are okay this morning after getting rescues from a cliff over a san francisco beach. sky 7 caught the dramatic rescue as it unfolded yesterday afternoon at marshal's beach. the hikers got stuck after they took what they thought was a shortcut. they called for help using a cell phone. each of them got a ticket from park police for creating a hazardous condition, which is a $250 fine. at long last a major road in the santa cruz mountains is back to two lanes of traffic. valencia road in aptos was compromised during last winter's destructive rains and had to be closed all but cutting off the community. >> we couldn't go to work, couldn't get the kids to school.

it was scary. >> reporter: he lives in rolling green estates in aptos off valencia road a road that's been closed or reduced to one lane since last winter's storms. locals were forced onto a daunting teeture. >> eight miles out of my way to go to work. >> reporter: it's also the best way to get to the elementary school. the closure was such an inconvenience all the students were relocated to other campuses last year. the road sank of ins after the culvert underneath it crumb pelled under the rain soaked soil. >> it was under 50 feet of dirt. we had to dig the dirt out. build retaining walls so the people could work under there. rebuild the culvert and reconstruct the road. >> reporter: it is now back in business. terry meade wasn't expecting it friday evening. >> it felt like a christmas present. >> better than before, right? i mean think should be able to last much longer. if we get storms like we did

former 49ers player dana stubblefield. a judge reinstated his bail in a rape case set at $500,000. according to our media partner stubble fooel's attorney argued the eight alleged rape victim lied under oath when asked whether shed of worked in the porn industry. police say he attacked the victim when she went to his house for a baby-sitting job. stubblefield claims he paid her for sex. the flash brothers are two of the warriors representing the team in the nba all-star game in los angeles. last night they played basketball with the kids and took part inns steph said it's great to be in l.a. for the all-star weekend. >> a different buzz. great weather in l.a. amazing scenery. a lot of history obviously. so it is always fun the couple here. couple that with all-star weekend and like i said all the names and the activities going around the weekend.

space and they say they are an aerospace company that created 100 jobs here. they are not saying much more. >> it's exciting to see what's going on with the private arrow face industry. and to see it this close to home is exciting. >> reporter: they may not be talking to us yet but they are talking to local officials. they filed lease application about the city of alameda that gives some details about what they are, woulding on. days after spacex launched its falcon heavy we found democrats documents showing this company is working on something smaller. a proposal to city leaders calls it astra and compares to it spacex and calls it the world's smallest rocket made to launch the new breed of small satellites. >> i'm excited to see that i was bummed i missed out on the elon musk launch. >> reporter: this was a ground test. you can see the char marks. the company says it is tight with the fire department, the city and the navy and wants to turn this area into a technology

[ fire crackers ] >> abc7 news was at san francisco's portsmouth square to usher in the year of the dog. there were fire crackers and a 88-foot golden dragon. this was a preview of the lunar parade one week from today. this holiday weekend is expected to be one of the coldest of the year. don't forget about your pets. you should bring them in at night. fur going the keep them outside they should have good bedding and access to food and water. one more thing, don't let a heavy fur coatle fool you. >> the fact that it has fur doesn't mean it it's completely

exempt from the impacts of cold weather. >> contra costa animal services recommends getting a sweater for your pet to keep them warm. now our accuweather forecast with lisa argen. >> good morning, saturday morning. it's clear and it's cool. we have a cold front on the way for the-second half of the weekend. a live look outside. you will notice that it does look calm out there on the bay waters. 49 in san francisco. it's 41 in oakland. good morning mountain view. 43 for you. 44 in san jose with 30s in gilroy and half moon bay. chilly in spots. we are looking at numbers the mid 30s santa rosa 35 in the delta. concord in the mid 40s. 42 in napa. from mount tam you can see the sun coming up. before 7:00. sunny and mild today. cooler and windier for sunday. low snow levels sunday night into monday where we could see a little high elevation snow down through mountain hamilton, the

santa cruz mountains, and actually the mountains around big sur. for us, it just means freezing cold mornings, criminalier days monday, tuesday and wednesday. starting out with the mild temperatures today in san jose. 71 degrees. so one of the warmer locations around the bay today will be in the south bay. average highs in the low 60s. we will dip below that tomorrow with mid 50s on monday, and then by tuesday we are still struggling to make it out of the 50s. little bit of temperature moderation by the end of the week to near average. this is tomorrow, a chilly day with clouds pushing through the bay area at 11:30. by late in the day we are looking at some of the precip in the higher elevations of lake county will be snow. as we go through the overnight hours it really runs parallel to the coast. we are not looking at a lot of moisturer moisture here but this the higher elevations it is a possibility. wind gusts from 20 to 30 miles

an hour on sunday. all day the winds get stronger to near 40 miles an hour across the entire bay area. this is lieu the day on sunday. and then as the front pushes through late sunday into monday we have got the cold air in place, the calm winds, and overnight lows into monday morning, widespread freezing temperatures. it will be near 40 in the east bay. as we get into tuesday, even colder. we are talking 30s around the bay. twentsd in the north bay. subfreezing tuesday morning. and wednesday morning in our inland valleys, look at that 35 degree temperature wednesday morning. enjoy today. highs today above average, and very mild, 65 in san francisco. 66 in oakland. we'll look for 69 in from the time. palo alto with 68 in nap and 69 in santa rosa. the accuweather seven-day forecast, one more sunny and mild day. tomorrow big drop in temperatures, ten to 15 degrees cooler with bluster ewinds. the overnight lows will be

with a quick look at the wather. lisa argen is tracking the conditions where you live. >> it looks the same. it is going to feel pretty much the same today. but this is the end of our long stretch of mild weather. here is mount tam. 49 degrees fran. 41 in oakland. 47 gilroy and half moon the deltas at 35. concord 34 degrees. by 7:00 we have recovered into the upper 40s. 11:00, low 60s for concord, 63 in livermore. by this afternoon it is a mild afternoon with mid 60s, upper 60s, and plenty of sunshine. this evening, the louds clouds arrive and we will look for much cooler temperatures, windy weather, and a slight possibility of a few light showers or a few light snowflakes in parts of the bay. i'll explain in a couple minutes. now to the justice

department indicting 1 russians and three russian companies. special counsel robert mueller signed the indictment yesterday claiming that russian agents posed as americans to help donald trump's campaign and damage hillary clinton's. abc news chief justice correspondent pierre thomas has reaction. >> reporter: the stunning allegations inside robert mueller's indictment, that the russians were not only meddling in the 2016 election from afar. at least once they were right inside the u.s. among the 13 russians indicted, yevgeny prigozhin, with ties tis close to the kremlin he is known as putin's chef. >>el they had an annual budge of millions of dollars. >> reporter: they spent operatives to america traveling throughout nine states. >> in order to hide the russian origins of their activities the defendants allegedly purchased space on computer servers located here in the united states in order to set up a

virtual private network. >> reporter: and that's not all. the russians allegedly set up campaign-style rallies inside the u.s. in battleground states like north carolina and virginia. according to the indictment this rally titled florida goes trump less than three mondays before the election was actually organized by the russians. >> the russians also reconcreted and paid real americans to engage in political activities. >> reporter: american voters had no idea the russians were behind them as they joined what they thought were real political groups, groups with names like secured borders, the russian imposters were also connecting with what's described as unwith itting individuals associated with the trump campaign and other political activists. >> the defendants allegedly conducted what they called information warfare against the united states with the stated goal of spreading distrust towards the candidates and the political system in general. >> reporter: the question now, will president trump still call the mueller investigation a

witch-hunt? as recently as july saying this about the russians, that it could be someone else. >> well, i think it was russia, and i think it could have been other people in other countries. >> reporter: but the indictment makes clear investigators are convinced the russians were launching attacks aimed at quote disparaging hillary clinton and supporting the presidential campaign of then candidate donald j. trump. ablz's dan harris in st. petersburg are where some of the russians part of interest net research agency were writing their materials to get americans riled up. our team obtaining a hidden camera look inside the operation. they kicked dan out, but mueller's indictment indicates their work was already done. more breaking news, mueller announced a guilty plea of an american from southern california who admitted to committing fraud by helping the russians set up fake american identities. pierre thomas, abc news, washington. next, the new report of an alleged affair between a playboy

playmate and donald trump before he was elected president. the report in "the new yorker" allegedly involves money spent just before the election for her story, which was never published. abc's senior white house correspondent has the story. >> reporter: ar abrupt change of plans, president trump bown for florida boarding marine one alone. the first lady was supposed to be with him. instead she left separately and met him at air force one. amid allegations about a nine month affair with a playboy playmate and whether she was paid to stay silent days before the election. ally, trump met her at a party at the playboy mansion while he was taping the apprentice. there were eight pages of her writings detailing the alleged

longtime personal attorney general act snojed he paid mcdaniels $130,000 just before michael cohen says neither the president's business nor his campaign was part of the transaction and has not said whether the president knew about that payment. daniels staying mum. >> do you have a non-disclosure agreement. >> do i? >> in florida, the president and first lady walked off air force one togd. cecilia vega, abc news, the who is. a state lawmaker who was suspended due to a sexual misconduct allegation is suing the state legislature for reinstatement arguing he is being treated differently than a white colleague. the sought by state senator tone mendoza a latino claims while he was suspended for the allegations against him, the state senator bob hertzberg who is white was not asked to step aside despite misconduct allegations made against him. he was suspended last month after being accused of sexually
