feet. so there could be some slushy snow. the north winds are with us tomorrow morning, lows in the 20s and 30s. you need the winter jacket, hat and scarves and gloves. colder air arrives tomorrow, a freeze warning goes into effect. we'll detail it later. abc 7 was in napa where workers were busy covering trees to protect them from frost. you can cover plants with a sheet to keep them warm or use christmas lights. at the hardware store it's insulation. >> the water freezes the pipe and bursts the pipe. >> while it looks simple it can prevent a flood from burst pipes. if you have a space heater or

fireplace make sure it's working properly. >> wind likely brought down some scaffolding. we're told it came down just at 3:00 p.m. winds helped a fire grow today, it forced evacuations near the pleasant valley campground. no reports of damaged structures. it's also causing problems for people traveling, that includes head winds for the east coast. >> reporter: many passengers have been landing late at sfo. they've made unscheduled stop in the middle of the country. >> there's big head winds. >> it felt slow, like you're driving a car up a steep hill. >> reporter: these passengers boarded a nonstop flight to

>> how scary was it? >> it wasn't. >> he said he was trying to land with traffic but changed his mind after he saw brake lights. >> i had to go to the shoulder, the opposite direction. my wing tip was out into the number one lane and a couple cars moved othver to make room r me. i'm sure it's a day they'll remember. >> reporter: there was no injuries or damage to his planes or the passengering vehicles. pilots who heard about what happened were impressed. >> it says a lot about the pilot's training. they said he had 30 seconds to decide from the time he had the power out to when he had to put it on the free way. >> reporter: no word on what was wrong with the engine, the faa is investigating. another teenager is under arrest for threatening to attack schools in the same florida county where a gunman killed 17

people. the sheriff said he listed the thread on social media when taken into custody he told them it was a joke meant to scare his cousin. he now faces a felony charges. president trump is set to have a discussion with students. the staff that survived the shooting could return to work this thursday to get ready of the student's return. many of the students are encouraging protests for gun safety. >> reporter: students who survived the high school massacre that killed 17 people are speaking out. >> this is not about republicans or democrats. >> reporter: channelling their grief or frustration and calling for a nationwide walk out onalkn march 14th.

facebook will soon rely on the post office to try to prevent foreign meddling in u.s. elections. the company will send postcards to potential ad buyers to confirm they reside in the u.s. and the recipient will have to enter a code in facebook. it comes after russian ads were purchased during the presidential election. to crosswalk buttons buttons michael finney has been looking into it and has some surprising results. >> reporter: downtown santa rosa third and e street. pedestrians are pushing the crosswalk buttons for no reason.

they don't work. neither do the buttons at second and e. in santa rosa all but three buttons do change traffic light patterns and those three are set to be upgrated to fully functioning. still wherever you live, when you push it do you think it works? >> yeah. >> i don't think they do. >> reporter: when we asked the city of san francisco about crosswalk buttons here's what we were told. >> every button has a purpose. >> reporter: true, just not the purpose you may think. >> we have 1,200 intersectionsis across the city and 259 you bush the buttons and it changes the traffic patterns. >> reporter: that leaves 941 intersections where buttons do what? light up the walk sight and light up the audio meant to help

the visually impaired know where to cross. they don't change the timing and don't put the pedestrians in the front of the line. makes sense, traffic is complicated and often computer controlled. one person pushing a button can't always be allowed to change things. in san jose pushing the walk button doesn't do much on major thorough fairs they're set up for pedestrians. but on streets with fewer walker adds time for pedestrians to cross. let's push the button more than once? >> i don't think it does anything. >> reporter: they're correct. >> there's no morse code involved if pushing the button. >> reporter: which brings us back to santa rosa. >> pressing it more doesn't make it go faster. >> reporter: it doesn't say there's more people waiting? >> absolutely not. >> reporter: we spot checked the bay area to find out how other cities handled their buttons.

highway 917 or 35 there could be weather related delays. winds gusting to 25 in oakland, 23 in san francisco, 26 at half moon bay and that's creating a wind chill across the region, feels like 36 in oakland, 31 in napa and 40 in mount view. the winds will be with us tomorrow morning as well. 7:00 in the morning on your monday, the winds especially closer to the coast are gusting 20 to 30 miles per hour. that will create another chill in atmosphere for monday. a lot of 20s overnight in the north bay. everybody else falls into the 30s overnight with the wind with us again. on your monday, a nice looking day, but it will be breezy, the winds still out of the north keeping us in the 50s by the afternoon. tomorrow night colder. frost advisory goes into effect for many locations along the immediate bay. you see lows in the 30s.
