doppler 7. hi everybody. let's go down to the santa cruz mountains where we've color-coded the radar. the yellow and the blue is rain. around 1800 feet and above, the pink is a wintry mix. in the white, that is snow. you can see it sliding right across the summit now. it's heading down to look at that. it's going to hit the big sur mountains and leave more snow there. possibly 2 to 4 inches in the santa cruz mountains by 10:00. 6 to 8 around big sur. hoping snow hit that. once the sun comes up, we'll look at the accuweather 12-hour planner. 31 to 42. it's going to be near 50 at noon. feel like 40. low 50s at 4:00. low 40s with another chance of showers. by 7:00 this ound round is over. good morning. we're going to take a look at this problem in the altamont pass in the tracy area. connection to 205 shut down at this hour. there's a sig-alert due to an

in -- city employees drove company cars more than 80 miles per hour about a thousand times a month. for most of last year. they also idled more than five minutes, more than 15,000 times raising questions about wasted fuel and carbon emissions. the city cracked down last october and led to a drop to 400 speeding incidents in november. look at this. snow in the sierra and snow in the mountains along the coast. whether it's just south of eureka or the santa cruz mountains headed down to big sur. that's going to be the case through the morning hours. this snow will stick around in a scattered nature throughout the afternoon hours. let's talk temperatures. if you're away from that snow, it is still chilly out there. or everybody else in the low to mid-40s along the shore. along the peninsula to san francisco, low to mid-40s there. 42 in san francisco. you'll be 39 degrees tonight.

that's going to be one. warm spots. 40 at pacifica. 28 in santa rosa. 35 in napa. 40 in pleasanton right now. let's talk about what's going to happen with the highs the next couple of days. they're locked in the low to mid-50s. that's avalos in 209s to 30s. san rafael in the live shot with the taillights headed southbound past freitas parkway. chp is saying that there's a stall somewhere in the vicinity blocking the left lane. it might be a little north of freitas or north of the exit down the road. right now traffic is flowing nicely. a heads-up. that stall is blocking once again the left lane. troubles on the altamont pass are just past it near tracy with that connector from eastbound 580 to 205 being shut down. we had an overnight big rig that went off the road and on its side in the embankment. they're trying to get that righted and out of there so they

6:14 now. oakland has reportedly run out of money for the fire prevention program. according to the chronicle, it's partly because voters rejected the renewal of the $55 parcel tax that paid for fire prevention activities. the city allocated about $600,000. but it won't be released until

july. some city council members want the money released earlier. many voters go online trying to learn about who is on the ballot. now in san francisco, there's cyber confusion regarding the race for mayor. if you type in london breed.com, you're going to see this. state senator mark leno's image. he is also running for mayor, but obviously not london breed. obviously, someone owns london breed.com and they want to sell it to breed for $100,000. so far, breed has refused to pay it and leno's campaign says it's not behind what's happening. the warriors are taking on another opponent, oracle the warriors believe they have no believe gags to -- obligation to continuing paying. the bay area newsgroup reports an arbitration hearing will be held in july. the decision over who should pay the debt is final. this year's nba all-star

on. start with san rafael. it's about 39 degrees under a partly cloudy sky. we'll have partly cloudy conditions everywhere with scattered showers. the key there is some of them may be snow showers like we're seeing now in the santa cruz mountains. clearing, freezing cold tonight. we'll do the same pattern about two more times this week. here's a look at live doppler 7. you can see the snow in white. the wintry mix in pink and the rain and red snow levels dropping down to around 1500 feet right now. all those places just to the west of ben low man and boulder creek is where the snow is falling. it could drop to 1,000 feet. it has the best chance of seeing the snows the most. up to 8 inches. we could get a dusting. maybe 2 to 4 inches in the santa cruz mountains. notice it dries up a little bit. from 9:00 to noon, we're seeing the driest weather. the sun irritates the atmosphere. the showers develop again this afternoon. just about anywhere in the inland valleys.

they'll be around through friday in the north bay. we'll be close saturday, sunday and monday. some of our cold neighborhoods, the east bay valleys, freezing cold at least tuesday, possibly again thursday and pretty close wednesday, friday, saturday and sunday. the cold air is not leaving any time soon. hi everyone. some breaking news coming in from the nation's capital. president trump now open to the idea of improving background checks. that's according to a spokesperson for the white house. this news comes less than a week after the florida school shooting that killed 17 people. the white house says president trump spoke with texas republican senator john cornyn on friday about a bipartisan bill that would strengthen house, state and federal governments. it could prohibit people from buying a gun. just to be clear, this is simply a discussion at this point. back to you. jess, thank you. a mother and her preschool daughter volunteered to fight hunger in san francisco.

>> let's look at what's going on outside. it's not red, white and blue. but there is white and that's some snow. the pink there. that's a wintry mix in the green. that is rain. this is one of the last showers moving through of the santa cruz mountains for this round. look at the deeper snow that's heading through the big sur area in some of the mountains there. we could get up to 2 to 4 inches in santa cruz. up to 8 inches around big sur. you can see, it's going to get quieter before more showers develop later on this afternoon in my accuweather 12-hour planner. let's go through 7:00. 32 to 36 degrees. that is chilly. by noon, we've got the northwest winds up to 20 miles per hour. it will feel more like the low 40s than 50. isolated showers during the afternoon hours. 49 to 53. >> what do you have, sue? >> the sig-alert in tracy. it's eastbound 580. the transition to 205. that's where the chp first said the location was.

now they're saying it may be closer to i-5. the eastbound 580 ramp to i-5 which is a little bit farther east or southeast if you will. so we're checking on the exact location. that ramp is closed. they're letting cars through in the gore point. there's a small chance that you could get through or a small area that you can get through. i'm not seeing a lot of slow traffic here. hi everyone. contra costa county fire just tweeting out this helmet cam video. i want to push play for you here. let me zoom in. this is what they saw when they were battling a fire at an apartment complex in martinez. let's watch it one more time. either from sunday morning or the one that reignited overnight in the same exact place. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is on scene with more on this. it was deja vu for fire crews,

amy. >> really scary situation, jessica. tp did happen twice here. firefighters had left the morning. that shows they're confident it's not going to happen again. this was the second one. the latest fire started at 1:25 this morning. this is a condominium complex on eastgate lane in martinez. it didn't take them long to get it out. just about 20 minutes. no one was in the building at the time. and no one was hurt. but it was kausd. it was a flare-up from the first fire. so two fires within 24 hours. we've had a look at the original fire for you at 4:15 yesterday morning. firefighters say this one started because of a pot that was accidentally left on a kitchen stove. five of the eight units in this complex have severe damage and can't be lived in right now because of that fire. one firefighter was hurt. officials haven't said, though, what happened. they do not think this is suspicious, saying that

accidents and then rekindles happen. reporting live in martinez, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. thank you, amy. high winds are fueling a wildfire grown to 900 acres. this broke out after 2:00 p.m. yesterday. campers at the pleasant valley ampground were ordered to evacuate. sheriff's deputies have been going door to door urging people to leave. so far, no reports of damaged structures. the windy weather is causing problems for people traveling this weekend. that includes serious headwinds on flights from the east coast. >> what a nightmare. many passengers landing late at sfo. 19 flights have made unscheduled stops because of the significant headwinds. a plane from jfk airport had to touchdown in denver for nearly an hour to refuel. >> i have never experienced that, even the pilot was making a remark he's been with the business ten years and this is the first stopover because of

the wind and needing to refuel. >> it felt really slow, like you were driving a car up a really steep hill and you're flooring it. >> overnight the chp issued high wind advisories for the san mateo bridge and the altamont pass. gusty winds likely brought down scaffolding at a san francisco construction site. we were at church and market streets yesterday afternoon as fire crews checked on the aftermath. we're told the scaffolding came down after 3:00 p.m. fortunately, no one was hurt. it's 6:34. the search is on for two carjackers. they stole this van in santa rosa yesterday around 11:00 a.m. the driver says he was parked near west third street and dutton avenue when one of the carjackers pointed a gun at him. the victim ran and called police. officers found the van on fire blocks away. suspects still on the loose. no description right now. there is a $2500 reward for information leading to arrests. president trump is facing new criticism for attacking the fbi. in eye tweet, he suggested the

it's pretty quiet now. they've revised the location of where this is. it originally was 58 to 0205. that ramp is actually open. what is shut down is the transition from 205 or pardon me, 580 to i-5. it's a little farther southeast of where we originally thought and traffic is very light in the area. but that ramp is shut down. if you're heading south or towards l.a., you have to transition over at 132 or at carl hollow to get through. sue, thank you. it was a somber weekend of the family and friends of the 19-year-old murder victim who named her suspected killers with her dying breath. they gathered in tracy to honor her memory. she died last week after a driver found her on tesla road suffering from stab wounds. before she died, she managed to tip off authorities to suspects tip off authorities to suspects daniel gross and alys

interesting. back to you in the studio. >> thank you. >> speaking of dirt, it's a bad transition. it was chaos on a cruise ship in the south pacific. nearly two dozen members of the same family were kicked off a carnival cruise after a wild brawl with security guards. some passengers were so scared, they locked themselves in their rooms. the brawls reportedly started when one guest stepped on someone else's flipflops. guards can be seen kicking passengers, even appearing to try to stop a bystander from recording. >> it took until the last day to ruin the trip and my honeymoon. it was terrible. >> in a statement, carnival cruise lines says "the actions seen on the video by our security team are not in line with our carnival values and policies." we're conducting a full investigation. carnival says it's offering a 25% cruise credit to the

b.a.r.t. is running a saturday schedule. ace rail trains on time. only 3 and 5 this morning and 2 and 4 this afternoon. a modified cal train down the peninsula. most everybody is on a saturday or holiday schedule today. the number of children killed by the flu has spiked again. according to the weekly report, 22 more children died from flu-related symptoms. that brings the total number of flu deaths in children to 84 since the flu season began in october. three out of four deaths, the children had not received the flu vaccine. but more than half of the kids who got the vaccine this season have avoided the illness. anyone visiting catalina island in southern california after a buffalo attack, it happened saturday night as a man was sitting on a log. officers say the buffalo was grazing nearby and as it came closer, the man tried to move but the buffalo suddenly charged and gored him. the man was treated at the scene and airlifted to a hospital. buffalo are actually common, they freely roam one side of

catalina. they don't usually attack humans. east bay veterinarian behind a law that would allow dogs and cats to receive mouth to snout resuscitation. right now only veterinarians are able to save a pet in need. if the new law is passed, first responders and their employers would be protected from damages and prosecution after providing emergency care. supporters say that waiting until the pets are taken to the hospital could be the difference between life and death. you may remember earlier this month, elon musk launched a tesla roadster into space. this was the last picture of it. if you are curious where it is, someone created a website to track its whereabouts. where is roadster.com. according to the website, it's a million miles from earth moving towards mars at more than 42,000 miles per hour. it has more than 137 million miles to go. this is the last time it was capturedment take a look. a telescope picked it up. you can see it moving there in the middle of the screen.
