delays happening on 101. you may want to try to take el camino or 280 at this hour until they get that cleared. it was a semi involved in this accident headed towards 237 on highway 101. a light pole down northbound hesperian at 92. there's a vehicle facing the wrong way. avoid hesperian until the light pole is out of lanes. if you see a light pole down, don't go near it. sex abuse allegations at a prestigious south bay school entered a new phase. >> now the san jose police are involved. they're looking to see if the school broke the law by mishandling the allegations. matt keller is live for us at presentation high school. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, natasha and reggie. our media partner, the mercury news, is reporting that the san jose police department is investigating whether or not school officials here at presentation high school broke state law by not reporting some claims of abuse.

this is just the latest twist in a scandal that became public in october. since then a group called make press safe said 20 alleged victims come forward to share claims of misconduct by teachers or staff members. this week, they announced the creation of an independent office for students to report any complaints of misconduct, harassment or bullying to the proper authorities. some say it's just lip service. >> it doesn't require any special team to follow child abuse reporting laws. they're very simple. if a child kocomes to you reporting abuse, you call the police. >> reporter: the school principal, mary miller, declined our request for an interview. but said in a statement, we cannot erase the feelings or change the perceptions of some. but we can learn from the opinions expressed and move forward with even greater resolve. the mercury news says police are not going into details on their investigation. reporting live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. thank you, matt.

there was an outpouring of emotion at the white house with school shooting survivors and their parents taking their personal stories directly to president trump. >> but did it work? they came away with a pledge from the president for tougher background checks and screenings. here's abc's jonathan karl. >> in the gma first look, president trump sat silently as one after another students and parents of shooting victims pleaded for action. >> i'm here because my daughter has no voice. we as a country failed our children. >> andrew pollack's 18-year-old daughter meadow was one of the 17 killed at stoneman douglas high school last week. carrie gruber, whose son survived the parkland shooting agreed it's too easy for teenagers to get a gun. >> if he's not old enough to buy a drink, buy a beer, he should not be able to buy a gun at 18 years old. that's a common sense. we have to do common sense. please, mr. trump hees are things we have to do.

yesterday. they asked to support a bill taking $1.5 million from the state's budget to get more off the streets. they would match the funding for a total of $3 billion. we need to do more, more quickly. we believe, if the state of california invests its surplus into addressing this humanitarian crisis, it is california's mayors that will deliver results fastest. >> the money would be spent on affordable housing, temporary shelters and outreach. california is home to about a quarter of the nation's homeless population. san francisco officials have officially implemented new policies for inmates who identify as transgender. the new policies will let inmates declare their preferred name and gender identity and indicate a gender preference for the deputy who will search them. examiner reports this is the first place in the nation to do this. all sheriff's deputies and staff will be trained. san francisco became the first

hackers entered the cloud account and used it to mine cryptocurrency. an action called cryptojacking. this hack attack is used to generate virtual currencies like bitcoin. mark cuban is in trouble again for speaking his mind. the nba has fined him $600,000 for saying his team should tank the season. that means to not be competitive in order to get better draft picks. commissioner adam silver called the statement detrimental to the nba. cuban made the comments sunday during a podcast with basketball legend julius irving. cuban is one of the co-hosts on shark tank. walmart is launching a new shopping experience in the coming weeks. unless they discover items based on their own style, including modern, traditional or bohemian. it's in part of the grbroader campaign with a focus on fashion and furnishings.

>> amy hollyfield live in bay point this morning. amy? >> reporter: hi, reggie. the car and the pickup truck ended up in this yard in the corner lot. no one inside the home was hurt. it didn't hit the ka -- the cars didn't hit the home. they have been cleared away from this yard. but look at what the crash scene looked like hours ago. two people were killed and the third person taken to the hospital. the residents inside the home are okay. they said it sounded like a bomb went off when they heard the crash. they looked outside and realized that people were seriously hurt. >> all these people hurt and in pain, you feel so bad for them. you start to do whatever you can to help them. >> reporter: the truck was turning on to port chicago highway in the bay point from wharf drive. this was just before 1:00 this morning when that truck was hit by the camaro. the chp has not released information about the victims or

about the investigation looking into how and why this happened. live in bay point, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news much. thank you, amy. developing news out of san jose where a car chase across several bay area highways wenen with an arrest. it happened in the menlo park area. officers followed the driver on 101, 85, 280 and then northbound 680. a spike strip stopped the car near hoss stet in san jose. officers broke the car windows to force the female driver out of her car. somehow nobody got hurt. the driver will face several charges. developing news in hayward. a fire started before 9:30 last night near the cemetery. it took crews about 45 minutes to get the flames under control. officials say there were transients inside of the building when the fire broke out but no reports of any injuries.

you could see self-driving cars with no one behind the wheel in just months. the san francisco business times reports that under proposed dmv rules, those vehicles could hit the roads by april. those rules go up for a vote on monday and are expected to be approved. the dmv could start approving applications within 30 days. under the regulations a remote operator would still be required to take over if something goes wrong. if you live on the peninsula, you'll have to dress as warmly as you have the last couple of mornings. temperatures in mid to upper 40s. menlo park at 45. same temperature in hayward and also in fremont. 42 right now in san jose. oakland and san francisco 47. san rafael and half moon bay at 46. freezing cold in napa at 32. san ramon at 37. one of the coldest spots in inland east bay neighborhoods. let's talk about san francisco. look at these temperatures.

some san francisco firefighters are suing the city because they say they are victims of discrimination. the eight firefighters say they were unfairly transferred after a harassment investigation. that investigation began in 2016 after a female firefighter at station 2 in chinatown said she was harassed by the men because of her gender. a letter from the human resources department to the chief says station 2 was hostile and challenging for women. according to the plaintiffs who spoke exclusively to abc 7 news, there was an ibt mat relationship between the female firefighter and the top battalion chief of the station named sam romero. because of that, romero gave the firefighter specs treatment and interfered with officers who tried to work with her. they complained to the department and it fell on deaf ears. >> i felt like it was an attack on my personal integrity. >> there's a lot of shame that goes with it.
