news. >> reporter: facing public pressure, president trump promised to tighter background and mental health checks and wants to raise ages for military-grade guns. it's a bold position. >> i promise you this. the nra will not only speak out, we will speak out louder and we will speak out stronger than ever before. >> reporter: the students of parkland say, that's not enough. >> people are not coming into our school. we have people with mental illnesses in our school. they're not coming in with mental illnesses and killing us. they're coming in with guns and killing us. >> reporter: president trump at a listening session with survivors floated the idea of arming teachers, but it wasn't popular. >> does anybody like that idea here? >> reporter: this morning the president clarified his position in a tweet. what i said was, look at the possibility of giving concealed weapons to teachers with special

military training. om the best. at a cnn town hall on gun violence, florida senator rubio, the only republican who accepted the invitation, took heat. >> more nra money? i -- that is the wrong way to look. first of all, the answer is, people buy into my agenda. >> reporter: by the end of the night, rubio did budge on raising the purchasing age limit to 21. >> i will support a law that takes that right away. >> reporter: some of president trump's ideas like reopening mental institutions for teens and arming teachers appear thoclicans. abc news, washington. developing news in san francisco's haight district. three bodies were found around 4:30 this morning on sage street near masonic avenue. it was very close to urban high school. someone called 911 to report seeing three unresponsive

individuals. at this point, investigators say there is no evidence of foul play, but it's too soon to tell how they died. developing news in bay point where a pickup truck crashed into the frontyard of a home, killing one person. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is at the scene. amy? >> reporter: hi, jessica. the chp is now saying this was a head-on collision right here on port chicago highway. they say the driver of a camaro veered out of his lane, crashed head-on into a pickup truck, which was carrying a 51-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman. the crash ended up here in this yard. a 20-year-old that was inside that camaro, the passenger, was killed. the chp spokesperson got emotional talking about this accident, saying it did no have to happen. the chp says a driver under the influence of drugs and alcohol is to blame for this massive crash that killed one person, critically injured two others and hurt himself.

the two vehicles landed in the yard of this bay point home just before 1:00 this morning. right outside the window where mark martin was sleeping. >> sounded like a bomb went off, to be honest. it was one of the loudest -- shook the whole house. and i -- i thought it was almost a dream until i heard a man screaming. >> reporter: he says a neighbor ran over with a crowbar and tried to reach the woman inside the pickup truck. >> they were trying to get the lady out of the car before the police got here but the crowbar wasn't enough for the size of the crash, so he couldn't get them out of the car. >> reporter: emergency crews arrived and took over, getting the couple inside the pickup truck to the hospital, whether those victims are in critical condition. the passenger in the camaro was killed. investigators believe his driver is to blame. >> i feel terrible more than anything because, you know, last thing you want to do when you open up -- you hear a bang outside your house, you don't expect to see people dead on your lawn. >> reporter: as a chp spokesperson released the details of the accident just a

few feet from where it happened, he angrily called for the end to driving under the influence. >> it's 2018. this is unacceptable. we're all educated, smart people. driving under the influence of alcohol, marijuana, controlled substances, whatever it is, is unacceptable, period. >> reporter: a membchp lost an r on christmas day. the driver has been identified and he is now charged with dui and manslaughter for the death of his passenger who is in that camaro, a 20-year-old, alejandro garcia. the chp talked about the grim task of going to tell a family they lost a loved one in an accident, they say, could have been prevented. live in bay point, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> very sad. developing news out of antioch. police are investigating a

shooting that left a woman between county q" and "j" streets. the woman was rushed to the hospital where is in critical condition. it's unclear what led up to the shooting. anyone with information is asked to contact antioch police. after going back into her d burning home all to rescue her dog. sky7 was over the home after 7:00 this morning as firefighters tried to put the fire out. firefighters were able to keep those flames from spreading into the garage and into a second-story addition. firefighters say the woman was treated for smoem ke inhalation. the woman and her dog are doing well. the cause is still under investigation. it is sunny out right now, but you don't want to put those umbrellas away. we want to head over to meteorologist mike nicco who is tracking those showers across the bay area. a little more still to come, right? >> absolutely, jessica. so far this arctic cold front

has been noisy in the wind department. you can see gusts around 20 miles an hour. it hasn't kicked up any showers yet. our biggest concern moving through the immediate future is at our airports where we've got an airport weather warning for gusty winds coming out of the north at 45 miles an hour. the potential is there for scattered showers. even gusty winds, hail and down to snow level of 2,000 feet. you can see the lack of clouds over us, but to the north is where all the green and rain and snow and white is. it's all coming our way. we'll take a look at that and the latest news on the drought, jessica, is not good. >> oh, no. thank you. take a look at this video we have. something you certainly don't see every day. sky7 was above golden gate park where this will morning a coast guard helicopter was forced to land there. it was on its way to a search and rescue operation when a maintenance light came on. the pilot landed as a precaution and four people were on board. no injuries were reported a

maintenance crew was called in to check out the chopper. officials say it appears to be a problem with oil in the gearbox. all scheduled activities on that field are now being relocated. sex abuse allegations at a prestigious south bay school just entered a brand-new phase. san jose police are now investigating if officials at presentation high school broke state law by not reporting claims of abuse. a group called make pres safe claims at least 20 victims have come forward to share claims of misconduct. the group claims -- those abuse claims were ignored and never reported to police. >> misleading posts on social media there have been allegations in the past of sexual misconduct. most of those allegations no one's ever heard of before. >> it doesn't require any special team to follow child abuse reporting laws. they're very simple. if a child comes to you, reporting abuse, you call the

police. >> just this week the school created an independence office for students report any misconduct. 85 car break-ins a day, that's the average. now san francisco's da is taking steps to try to contain the epidemic. d.a. george gascon wants $1 million to fund a new task force and a tipline. it's estimated criminal street gangs are behind 70% to 80% of all auto burglary incidents in the city. new at 11:00, airbnb just announced a new type of service on its platform called airbnb plus. it allows the company to more effectively compete with hotels. it's being marketed as a service verified for quality and includes seven amenities one might find inside a hotel as well. a service launch today to mark

welcome back. we have break news. president trump says he's considering pulling federal immigration enforcement officers from the state of california and it's over the state's sanctuary policies. the president made a comment at the white house during a meeting this morning. he also had a warning for california saying if he decides to pull i.c.e. agents, the state quoo have a crime nest like never seen before. the president has not officially committed to removing immigration officers from the state only to say that he is thinking about it. developing new in oakland where the family of a man shot and killed by b.a.r.t. police are calling for the officer to be charged. family members and supporters of celine tindall are speaking at

the b.a.r.t. board of directors meeting. tindall was killed near the oakland stagts. yesterday b.a.r.t. police released this full body cam, a day after someone leaked poergtss on social media. they say b.a.r.t. police officer was calling for him to put his hands up. his family says he was shot in the back and wasn't given enough time to raise his hands. oregon expressway in palo alto is open, several hours after a deadly crash just after 6:30 this morning. it appears a bagel truck and a sedan were involved. police have not yet released details on the person who died or what led up to this crash. state senator tony mendoza could be the first lawmaker to be expelled from the state legislature in over a century. a hearing to determine if he likely engaged in unwanted advanced and sexually suggestive

behavior toward six women over the last decade. a resolution was introduced calling for a formal expulsion vote. mendoza is on involuntary paid leave. mendoza says the findings of the investigation don't match his recollection of the events. now your money morning report. toys "r" us is reportedly closing another 200 stores and it's also laying off corporate workers. "the wall street journal" first reported the news. the company filed for bankruptcy in september. last month going out of business sales started at 170 stores, including some stores right here in the bay area. stores slated for closing will still honor gift cards. toys "r" us says the sales will last until april. starting today, cinemark theaterers will begin enforcing their new policy. the theater chain will no longer permit bags or packages bigger than 12 inches by 12 inches by 6

snooi. no doubt you know it's been dry this rain season. the drought monitor comes out every thursday. the u.s. drought monitor weekly. this is what it says. i want to go to the left-hand side, where we started rain october 3rd. no worry. now nearly three-quarters of the bay area have normally dry conditions. that's the beginning of a drought. you can also see the second stages of drought, the moderate drought, the darker stuff is starting to move up our way as even severe drought is starting to move through the central valley and up towards us. we get enough rain today to stop that? no. as you can see outside, those clouds not investigator enough to bring us moisture. the showers are coming.

on mt. st. helena. you can see the green and white signifying snow. it's coming down towards us. it doesn't have a lot of moisture. from noon to 10:00, you can see 0.02 an inch. here's what will affect all of us. 25-mile-per-hour gusts up to 35. it's running perpendicular to the east/west bridges, san mateo bridge, bay bridge, dunbarton, all tricky to navigate during the evening commute. now, the storm track moves away for a couple of days and we warm into the 60s. another storm comes straight from the arctic and chance of rain and snow for monday and wednesday. looks like i was looking way ahead. march 1st, 2nd and 3rd, might get a significant storm.
