building on san sohn street. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. a live update. >> at the live desk this morning, i'm tracking the aftermath of a fire that burned a library in contra costa county. take a look here. this morning, the el sobrante library on appian way likely closed. the fire started outside the building and spread to the roof. the fire began about 8:30 last night. the fire captain says with rain on the way, there may be even more damage to the roof this week. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. >> jessica, thank you. it is 4:30 now. if you're just joining us,let get to meteorologist mike nicco. natasha and reggie, hi. let start with the storm impact scales. a is for today as we have scattered showers. the storm intensifies overnight.

showing the barrage of gunfire that ended in the capture of a homicide suspect. it started when police tried to arrest joel armstrong who officers spotted inside an rv earlier this month. armstrong fired two round at officers. seven officers fired approximately 65 rounds in the vehicle after hearing gunfire from inside. police released this body cam video during a town hall meeting last night. >> get more ammo. >> incredibly, no one was hit in the exchange of hall immedia alameda a and at that hara street. he's accused of carjacking a driver and killing a man and wounding another. >> unbelievable video. the suspect arrested in connection with a deadly shooting in broadmoor are set for court appearance. the two will be arraigned in san

mateo county. police say they killed a couple at the hillside market on sunday. a third victim wounded is expected to survive. police say the victims and suspect got into an argument that led up to the shooting. a major security crackdown at the white house. this morning, president trump's son-in-law and senior adviser jared kushner is stripped of his high-level security clearance. that is a decision the president can overrule, but will he? abc news reporter tara palmieri has the details from washington. >> the president's son-in-law has been denied access to the country's top secrets setting off speculation that his white house days are numbered. >> jared kushner was stripped of the highest level security clearance. kushner, whose portfolio includes middle east peace and mexico will no longer have access to top secret intelligence. kushner was working on a security clearance since the inauguration. the fbi review has been delayed for 15 months because of his extensive financial dealings and

failure to disclose contact with foreigners. the president left the decision up to his chief of staff. >> i will let general kelly make that decision. he's going to do what's right for the country. >> a spokesperson for kushner said no concerns were raised by kushner's application. as general kelly said himself, the new clearance policy will not affect mr. kushner's ability to do the very important work he's been assigned by the president. on capitol hill tuesday, kushner ignored questions. >> abc news learned that h.r. mcmaster was concerned that kushner was contacteding officials without coordinating with the security council. if you're planning a trip, there's going to be nine new flight options. the mercury news says southwest will fly to spokane, houston, st. louis and orlando. it will add a flight to chicago's midway airport. the san jose city council is on

but the morning commute will be dry. it will become breezy on the bay today. let's take a look at the north bay. 36 this morning. 10:00, 45. then we'll hang out mainly in the low 50s for the afternoon hours. by 6:00, that's when the steadier rain starts to move in and gets heavier by 8:00. east bay valleys, waking up to temperatures in the 30s and 40s. by the afternoon hours, noon all the way through 6:00, we'll be in the mid-50s. by k8, a chaps of wet weather. just about all of us get touched by rain today, tomorrow and friday. it's just how intense will it be, where the hail will be and the snow and the potential for lightning. that's what's coming up in the next weather. here's sue. we're headed outside to look at the richmond-san rafael bridge at 4:37 on this wednesday morning. light conditions, as you might imagine. getting to where you're going this morning should be problem-free. we've got very light conditions each out of the central valley at this early hour. ace train number 1 did leave on

strongest snowstorm of the season is heading towards tahoe and here's the way it plays out today. you can see just coming into the northern parts of the state. so we'll see increasing clouds up there and some rain at the lower elevation, snow at the higher elevations. near 70 in palm springs. low 60s in the rest of so cal. here's my updated winter storm warning. 4:00 this afternoon through 10:00 in the evening. 3 to 5 feet of snowfall possible with up to 7 feet and with 65 mile per hour winds, it will be drifting. it's going to be busy through saturday. be careful. mike, thank you. a charter bus company is

offering a $10,000 reward to stop a rash of guns. some of the buses are tech buses carrying google and apple employees. the buses were not marked. so chp officers don't believe the tech workers are being specifically targeted. they've increased patrols along interstate 280 where most of the shootings happened. congress is investigating the growing number of close calls at airports, including at sfo. >> it's at 59 feet, if it had finalized in a tragedy, if it happens in the future, we'll all be held to account. >> that's concord democrat. h's describing how close a flight came to hitting a line of planes. it nearly landed on a taxiway in july. he spoke during a house hearing yesterday. abc 7 news asked the retired airline captain if pilots face more challenges at sfo than any

>> i love that. such a good cause. a lot of us won't be using the dresses again and they've only been worn once. >> why not? >> only seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. >> hi mike. >> things will change rapidly reggie. hi natasha and everybody. here's a look at live doppler 7. you can see the rain in green and the snow in white/blue there. developing across northern parts of the state. it's going to stay there for the better part of today. as we head into the evening and overnight hours, everything is going to change rapidly. you can see a few showers out there. notice the nature of the green dots, if you will. in one big mass. we're going to have scattered showers today with increasing clouds and temperatures mainly around 54 to about 58 degrees. tonight, you can see the dots come together. the rain becomes steadier and yellows and oranges start to show up and that's some moderate to heavy rain. temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s. considerably warmer than this

morning. here we are at noon. you can see there's a few light showers out there. here's the clock right there. keep an eye on that as we'll go up to about, say, 6:00 and you can seeey're very limited outside of the north bay. they're becoming more numerous there. overnight, by midnight, there you go. the steadier, moderate to heavy rain taking over all of our neighborhoods. this will continue all the way through, look at this, not only 9:00 tomorrow morning but up to 2:00 or 3:00. so we're going to have a long duration of steady rain that will be moderate to heavy at times. then into the afternoon hours tomorrow, that's when the snow level starts to lower down to about 3,000 feet. and we introduce a chance of thunderstorms and even faster breezes. we could see some hail tomorrow and we could see hail again and more snow for friday into saturday morning when the storm tapers from a moderate back down to a light one. little quieter over there, sue? >> quiet over here, which is

fine. we like it quiet in the traffic center. we do have some brake lights at north main. this is southbound on 680 through-wall nut creek. otherwise, an easy drive from walnut creek in towards oakland on 24. you're looking at about an 8 to 10-minute drive. we are seeing solid red sensors now out of the central valley, from tracy to livermore for about a 35-minute drive and ace train number 1 is running on schedule. thank you, sue. the nfl is in need of a new official pizza. papa john's and the league say they're officially ending their sponsorship deal. last year company founder criticized nfl leadership over national anthem protests by players. he later apologized and stepped down as ceo. papa john's isn't divorcing from the league altogether. it will keep its individual partnerships with 22 nfl teams. a new study finds that diverse audiences are driving most of the biggest blockbusters, like marvel's black panther, as well as the

most watched tv shows. >> minorities account for the majority of ticket sales for half of the top ten films worldwide, that's according to a report out of ucla. the study finds that movies with a diverse cast outperform movies that didn't show ethnic or racial diversity. tv shows tripled from 5% to 15% and about 14% of lead roles in films go to minorities. speaking of the movies, we're just days away from the oscars. this is a live look at the dolby theatre in hollywood where crews are preparing for the movie industry's biggest night. dion limb will be reporting there on friday. the excitement begins with the red carpet arrivals and then at 5:00 p.m., jimmy kimmel hosts the 90th oscar show. amazon buying a smart doorbell maker once rejected on shark tank. >> google now selling its smart

fall out of this system starting tonight all the way through saturday evening. your best plans for the weekend should be sunday. check out this freeway rescue recorded with an infrared filter. the chp was called in to berkeley for reports of someone running around on interstate 80. officers with the help of a chopper found a 16-year-old girl. she had been missing and considered at risk. happening today, slow down and follow the law whether you're traveling by car, bike or foot. police is teaming up with several law enforcement agencies in santa clara county to prevent crashes in accident-prone areas like school zones. officers will be focusing on jaywalking, stop sign violations and distracted driving. the operation rotates to different participating cities every month. national correspondent bob woodruff was in san francisco last night raising money for his foundation which helps injured veterans. he was badly hurt while covering the iraq war in 2006. he spent years in recovery.

woodruff led a discussion with business and government leaders about increasing opportunities for vets. former giants star tim lincecum is getting back in the game after taking off last season. there's word of a deal with the texas rangers. it's unclear if he'll be a starter or reliever and reportedly is considering a deal from the dodgers. he was known as timmy during his time with the giants. this will be his second try at coming back. the two-time cy young award winner struggled with the angels when he last played in 2016. here's a look at what will happen with the rainfall. you can see spotty chances of running into wet spots. look what happens during the overnight hours. tomorrow morning's commute will be wet everywhere with a quarter to nearly an inch in the north bay. it keeps getting heavier through the morning commute. you can see the green spreading from north to south. that's more than an inch. the dark green is at least 1.5 inches. let's talk about the winds.

they'll be fast. this evening, they'll be around 10 to 20 miles per hour. overnight, look at this. up to 25 to 35 miles per hour. during the day tomorrow, they could gust up to 40 to 45. it's going to be tough. especially with high-profile vehicles. sue? we're taking a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. minor backups for the cash paying folks on the right and left-hand side. once past the metering lights, we have reports of an accident. three or four vehicles off to the right-hand shoulder. you may want to stay left as you go up on the incline section of the span on the upper deck. >> thank you, sue. one of the biggest names in scotch whiskey is making a temporary change in the name of gender equality. take a look. starting next month, the striding pose of johnny walker will be replaced by jane walker at least for a limited time. it will be the first time in the nearly 200-year history that the logo has been depicted as a women. it's the latest change following kfc which has reba mcentire playing colonel sanders.

the world's largest plane isn't ready for flight. but the mega plane was taken out on a runway for the first time this week. the strata launch was created by paul allen. he shared new plane. it has a wingspan of 385 feet and weighs a half million pounds. it's designed to launch rockets into low earth orbits. that's between 99 and 1200 miles high. the strata launch is expected to make its first flight next year. the moon could have the start of its own mobile network by next year. the goal is to allow lunar rovers to communicate with one another. the project would also enable high definition live streaming back to nokia wants to launch with spacex acts one of the nation's largest

this is abc 7 morning. welcome to wednesday, february 28th. coming up on 5:00 a.m. there's a lot going on this morning. first, we need to get to the accuweather forecast. while things are quiet now, they're going to change fast.

>> we don't want people to be caught off guard or surprised by what's going to happen over the next three to four days. hi everybody. here's a look at live doppler 7 showing how dry it is this morning. you can see, it's not too breezy out there. the flags not too unfurled there at the for i buildings. we'll look from the roof camera. waking up much colder this morning. there's frost in the inland valleys. increasing clouds, low to mid-50s at noon. still dry. maybe a random shower. best chance of a stray shower at 4:00. the showers start spreading at 7:00. we'll top out in the mid to upper 50s at 4:00. low to mid-50s at 7:00. let's find out about that dry morning commute with sue. it's dry right now for sure. it's looking pretty good. this is a real tough corridor to get through as you probably know if you drive it on a regular basis. stretches through albany and berkeley. it's looking pretty good now as you make your way towards the bay bridge.
