accuweath live where you live, this is abc7 news. >> live doppler 7 shows more rain hitting the bay area right now and it's causing new problems. downed trees and power outages, and this storm is dumping snow in the sierra tonight making travel there extremely dangerous, but the skiing and boarding great. good evening, i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm kristen sze in for alma daetz. the rain and wind are back causing problems. >> howling winds and saturated soil caused this evergreen to cme down in alamo. >> the 50-foot tree is still blocking the road right now cutting off access to dozens of homes. contra costa county work crews are responding to cut the tree up and clear the roadway. >> and in the north bay, a downed 100 foot tall tree along

objection dental road occidental, 115 homes lost power because of this mess. many are still in the dark right now. in fact there are roughly pg&e customers out of power mostly on the north bay and peninsula. >> and looking live tonight from our golden gate bridge camera, you can see the rain coming down just a little bit, mainly you see the deck is wet right now for the cars. just in the past few minutes it has started raining on the right. that's in san jose. let's check in with meteorologist sandhya patel tracking the storm on live doppler 7. >> yeah, dan and kristen. it is coming down hard across parts of the bay area. lets a p look at live doppler 7 now. we're going to go into where we're seeing some downpours. so, it's moderate to heavy rain that shifted from san jose to morgan hill, san martin. santa cruz mountains are getting clobbered as well. sunnyvale street level radar, you'll notice it is coming down hard. in the east bay i want to show you something very interesting.

we are seeing in snow over mt. diablo and as you take a look here, we are seeing some snow falling right now over mount hamilton. also tracking some moderate rain around newark, paseo padre, san francisco peninsula, it's lighter as we look to the north around lake and mendocino counties. we are seeing some snow showers, and spotty showers at the lower elevations. this is level 1 system pockets of moderate rain tonight. tomorrow chance of thunder, gusty winds. and those winds are still howling. 41 miles an hour mount tam, altamont is 51 at the lower elevations. winds are beginning to come down. but watch out for trees and power lines toppling. hour by hour look at your morning commute and beyond coming right up. dan and kristen? >> all right, sandhya, thank you. interstate 80 through the sierra has reopened now after being closed at donner pass earlier today because of extremely dangerous driving conditions. but semi trucks are not allowed on the freeway still. and as you can see from cal trans cameras tonight there are

still plenty of snow across all lanes. the snow plows can't keep up really. chain controls are in effect on interstate 80 and highway 50. the mudslide ravaged community of montecito in santa barbara county is once again under a mandatory evacuation order. some 30,000 residents are affected. sheriff's deputies today went door to door letting residents know of the mandatory order. the communities of carpentry a are also under the warning. at least 21 people died in last year's mudslides. authorities hope the urgent warnings to evacuate will help avoid another tragedy. how about another live look at live doppler 7. plenty of green. you can see a lot of precipitation there. remember to download the abc7 news app and enable push alerts for the latest conditions where you live. >> developing news tonight, i.c.e. says a major four-day california operation is over with 232 arrested in northern calf. but the threat of continued raids is causing fear in the

immigrant community tonight. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo has that story from the south bay. >> when you heard the news you were scared, especially if you have young kids. >> reporter: miguel came to sirens family preparedness workshop to get information. information that could protect his children. >> deportations do separate families. they break up families and what we want to do is avoid any type of incidents where children are left behind. >> i want to be away from my family. i think that is the most important thing. >> reporter: i.c.e. officers arrested 232 people in a four-day operation in northern california. and that 115 of them had prior felony convictions for serious or violent offenses. santa clara county's rapid response network tells abc7 news at least seven people were arrested in san jose amid a flurry of phone calls. >> we've had about over 350 calls. >> reporter: the network sends volunteers to observe i.c.e. action when it's reported. sometimes the reports are false. hey seuss rue iz said the rumors

paralyze communities. >> they don't take their kids to school. they don't want to pick them up. they don't want to go to work. they don't want to drive. they don't want to do anything. >> reporter: in a statement i.c.e. said local law enforcement is hurting its operations in california. the statement went on to say, i.c.e. has no choice but to continue to conduct at-large arrests in local neighborhoods and at work sites which will enhe have thatably result in additional collateral arrests. in san jose, katie marzullo, abc7 news. >> in the meantime, oakland mayor libby schaaf's decision to publicly warn of impending immigration raids has attracted the attention of the white house. >> i think it's outrageous that a mayor would circumvent federal authorities and certainly put them in danger by making a move such as that. and that's currently under review by the department of justice. >> mayor schaaf today said she is not aware of any investigation into her actions by the d.o.j. she has defended her warnings saying the i.c.e. raids are political retaliation against

california by the trump administration. schaaf this week reaffirmed oakland's status as a sanctuary city. >> new at 11:00, two more major retailers taking action on gun control tonight. l.l. bean has announced it will stop selling guns to anyone under 21 and its flagship store in maine. r.e.i. spended its relationship with those with popular brands because it also manufactures gun and ammunition. and tonight a congresswoman who survived an assassination attempt was here in the bay area, hopeful for real gun control reforms. abc7 news reporter kate larson has the story. >> democrats, republicans, everyone, we must never stop fighting. >> reporter: former congresswoman gabby giffords was shot in the head in 2011. tonight she's demanding nationwide gun control. >> be bold. be courageous. the nation is counting on you. >> reporter: giffords, her husband retired astronaut mark

kell and i university college president janet napolitano spoke in san francisco. in honor of her former aide gabe zimmerman killed during the assassination attempt on giffords. >> it's not normal. we are unlike any other country when it comes to gun violence. we have mass shootings at a rate comparable with the country of yemen. >> reporter: up until this point the shootings and gun control have had little correlation. however, in the wake of the parkland school shooting, kelly and napolitano believe a sea change in policy is taking place. >> what feels different about this moment in time is the power of the students' voices out of florida. >> they shouldn't have to, after this, worry about gun violence in their schools again. it never should have happened the first time. >> reporter: napolitano, former secretary of homeland security, also said the corporate reaction to the florida shooting is putting pressure on politicians to take action.

are still gusty and even at the lower elevations, the wind has been going, which is why we've been seeing some potential trees and power lines down and live doppler 7 all lit up tonight. we need this rain. we got it. we're even seeing high elevation snow. right now downpours in the south bay, street level radar, santa clara, campbell, bollinger road, came bring a parkway, lose gatos, winchester boulevard, it is coming down. over mount hamilton and the surrounding hills we're seek mixed precip tapgs. around sunol, pleasanton, moderate showers. as we take a look at mt. diablo area, yes, there is snow. lower elevations, danville boulevard, walnut creek you're seeing some showers. the showers are pretty much covering everyone from san francisco down the peninsula into burlingame. all the way up towards the north bay around san rafael laurel grove avenue. how much rain have we received? these are updated totals. over 2 inches in san rafael.

ben lomond just over 3 inches. san francisco almost an invechc. 1.43. napa close to 2 inches. livermore 69 hundredths of an inch. we're not done yet. temperatures 30 to 50s, it's going to be a cold night and a slippery view from our san jose camera as you will notice here. so, definitely stay inside if you don't have to step out. tomorrow morning it's going to be cold, slippery areas, watch out, black ice is possible especially areas where the ground is still wet. and there are no showers coming through. snow over the highest peaks. and speaking of the highest peaks around tahoe right now it is snowing. it is blowing, which is why chain controls leading up to all roads continue. bad idea to try to travel up there right now. on our storm impact scale this is level 1, light system tonight, through tomorrow, pockets of moderate rain. there is a chance of thunder tomorrow. it is going to be gusty at times. especially overnight tonight into the wee hours of the morning. 4:00 a.m., mount hamilton

looking at snow showers. 5:00 a.m. commute time, there will be spotty showers. it's not going to be widespread event tomorrow. nothing like what we saw this morning. not as windy either, but then the next wave of some moderate rain comes in between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m., so you will notice some pockets of rain tomorrow afternoon. your get away friday is going to be a rough one for the evening commute. scattered showers trail 7 to 10:00 p.m., 11:00 p.m., it's a wintry mix over the higher elevations. additional rainfall totals anywhere from about a third of an inch to almost an inch expected across the bay area through saturday night. this storm producing enough snow that a winter storm warning continues over the sierra until saturday 10:00 p.m., additional 2 to 3 feet of snow, up to 6 feet in spots. it's probably a bad idea to try to head up there since they have a blizzard warning for tahoe. whiteout gusty conditions. if you can hold out until sunday, you'll be good for the
