mish. >> melanie woodrow has the story. >> reporter: for more than three decades, police investigate ers kept a hand on the homicide. >> before he retired, he put this box on may desk and said hey, kid, solve this case. >> reporter: he did just that. on february 2nd, 1986, 1986, 19, friends were found dead alongside mill creek road. a motorcyclist driving by discovered the women's bodies and called police. they'd been shot and stabbed. neighbors remember it well. >> every time we drive by we think about it. >> reporter: xavier's car was found at a shopping center. they were last seen at a nearby convenience store. despite persons of interest and interviews, the case temporarily went cold and was suspended until 2006 when

korea it'sed created. david emery mish went from a person of interest to the manl suspect. he was already serving 18 years to life for a 1989 homicide in alameda county. >> the statement he provided to me made me believe he was a big part of this case. >> reporter: mish is expected to be arraigned on two counts of murder later this week. >> relief. it was nice to know they finally got the guy. >> reporter: for the best friends' loved ones as well. >> the families were very, very thankful, very understanding. >> reporter: the victims had no contact with mish prior to the crime. in premofremont, abc 7 news. a passenger had to be wrestled to the ground after she reportedly tried to open the cabin door. slammed to the floor. she appears to be saying repeatedly "i am god." this was on a flight to boise that left at 8:4567. boise police say the woman's being medically eeftsed and questioned by investigators. the fbi is also investigating. the san francisco police department just announced it's obtained a warrant for the arrest of aldon smith. >> the department says it's working with his attorney to arrange a time for smith to surrend surrender himself. this announcement comes hours after the oakland raiders released smith. >> abc 7's mark shumann is here with insight. >> it's a sad, sad story. i've seen so many players go through what aldon smith is going through, and it's not easy for anyone dealing with addiction. he went to rehab, but once you

complete your stipts you're usually suspended. and the team you play with cannot communicate request you duri -- with you during that suspension. all the people he could communicate with if he felt he was going to relapse, most people think they have it handled. meanwhile, the niners or or vice versa can't contact you during these trying times. what the league needs to do is have the team be able to monitor the player. let him practice or work out at the facility so the player in question can be monitored. jack del rio tweeted out the same sentiment. aldon was floating in the wind waiting to learn from the league. and iedle hands and free time cn bring you nothing but trouble. he told me he was done with football. and now another mixup with the law. there has it to be a better

officer. he is accused of running down two pedestrians with his personal car in north beach, then leaving the scene of the accident. prosecutors say he turned himself in hours later. the victims were two men in their 40s, both suffering non-life-threatening injuries. he is on unpaid leave from the police department. people in one san francisco neighborhood are not at all calm over two so-called traffic calming circles. they've gone up on euclid street. they are meant to enhance safety. but people say they have created opposite results. we have the story that you'll see only on 7. leanne? >> reporter: well, you know how traffic is in this city. so people are taking euclid quite often in order to avoid gary in that direction and california in the other direction. again, traffic has increased on this street. but most neighbors here don't like the concrete solution

behind me. >> they're killing a fly with a sledgehammer. >> reporter: lynn, a neighbor, is referring to the circular structure made of concrete, located smack in the middle of euclid street in laurel heights, not to be confused with a roundabout, the city is calling it a traffic-calming circle. many here call it trouble. >> traffic now has to encroach on the bicycle lane to get through thing and through the intersection. and when you're riding a bicycle up the street which i often do, there's a competition for space. >> reporter: the main complaint is that most drivers don't realize they must first come to a four-way stop, something your typical roundabout doesn't have. one after another, drivers were rolling through the stop sign, and near-misses are not uncommon. >> i have a nearly 3-year-old son who likes to ride his scooter. and i like it when cars stop. >> reporter: so have you guys complained? >> just amongst ourselves. we haven't done anything official. why bother?

>> reporter: the san francisco municipal transportation agency says in fact it was neighbors who wanted something done about cars speeding through here. it was at this precise intersection in 2015 a 2-year-old was critically injured when a car hit her stroller. that was supervisor mark farrell's district. >> takes a little getting used to, but it's the right answer at the end of the day. >> what they should do is rip it out, put a stop light, multiple stop lines or flashing lights. what's wrong with putting flashing lights on the intersection? >> reporter: they say they will continue to monitor its impact on the neighborhood. in san francisco, leanne melendez abc 7 news. papers were filed to rename a street to mayor ed lee street. here's a look at kearney street. it basically separates the financial district from the union square and china town districts. it was named after brigadier general steven watts kearney who
