officer involved shooting in san francisco. >> reporter matt keller is live in the district this morning. matt? >> reporter: good morning, reggie. i want to give you an idea of what's taking place behind me. we're between 21st and 22nd street on capp street. the crime scene is parked and behind it are big lights that's showing what is happening down on the ground as officers continue their investigation. this took place last night after 10:30. here's what happened, the police say. officers were flagged down at 20th and capp street by armed robbery victims. they gave officers descriptions of the suspects and told them they were driving a black honda civic. the officers spotted the car between 21st and 22nd streets and ordered the suspects out of car. the driver was detained, the officers then noticed the trunk of the civic was open and saw a second suspect in the trunk. while trying to detain the suspect, an officer involved shooting took place. here's what a neighbor, who did

not want to be identified, heard. >> then i heard a shot. and then two i -- definitely heard a shot. then i heard like -- i thought it was fireworks. >> the suspect in the trunk died at the scene. officersnd a handgun in the trunk. a third suspect, a female in the vehicle, was also detained. san francisco police say they hold the town hall meeting about this officer-involved shooting within ten days. officers told me on the scene, they believe they'll be out here until at least daylight. matt keller, abc 7 news. attorney general jeff sessions is scheduled to speak in sacramento where he is expected to formally announce a lawsuit against the state of california's sanctuary state policy. >> according to the associated press, the p. it targets three state laws. including laws that ban police from asking someone's immigration status, banned participation in federal immigration raids and another

law which offers protection from raids at workplaces. governor brown issued a statement saying at a time of unprecedented political turmoil, jeff sessions has come to california to further divide and polarize america. jeff, these political stunts may be the norm in washington, but they don't work here. sad. >> oakland mayor libby schaaf is responding to the lawsuit by vowing to fight for the legal right to remain a sanctuary city. she says she will continue to inform residents about their constitutional rights. she drew the anger of the administration when she warned about i.c.e. raids a week and a half ago. schaaf says this administration tried to portray all i am granlts asville rance. that's a racist lie and we will she had light on that myth every day. abc 7 news will have live coverage of jeff sessions' address this morning. we'll send out a push alert when he starts speaking. 5:04 now. san jose police are searching for the person or persons who

shot out business and auto windows with a bb gun. at least a dozen incidents this week. the vandals made quite a mess. this restaurant in alum rock spent yesterday cleaning up. a new window will need to be installed there. business owners say it will cost thousands of dollars. >> this is bad. this is something that police should really take it very serious because it's a lot of damage. i mean, it makes you want to quit the business and do something else. >> we want to try to pick ourselves up and take care of business. that's what we're going to do and hopefully everybody else will be able to do the same and take care of their businesses too. >> police don't know if the incidents are connected. they have not released any suspect information. aldon smith is out on $30,000 bail after turning himself in to san francisco police on domestic violence charges. abc 7 news was at the san francisco county jail when smith left and quickly hopped into a

waiting car. he was booked on misdemeanor domestic violence and other charges. he had been wanted since saturday when he allegedly assaulted his fiance at her nob hill apartment. she called police after he left. here's how the dispatcher described what happened. >> the suspect threw her on the -- bit -- >> it's the latest in a series of run-ins with the law for smith. the 49ers released him after a string of arrest and served a one-year suspension from the nfl for a substance abuse violations. the raiders released him on monday. the san francisco district attorney will not press charges against the university of san diego men's basketball coach. lamont smith was arrested at sfo on february 25th after allegedly beating his pregnat girlfriend at a san francisco hotel. as a result of evidence from the investigation, mr. smith will not be charged at this time. a surprise move by an nba star cleveland cavaliers kevin

love is opening up about his mental health now. showing how a panic attack during a game in november changed his life. abc 7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian has the reaction. >> kevin love is used to scoring big on the basketball court. but his words out-shined everything else. in his essay for the players tribune, everyone is going through something, the nba stand-out opened up about hispanic attack november 5th. he wrote, it was like my body was trying to say to me, you're about to die. love was rushed to a local hospital where doctors found nothing physically wrong. so he started seeing a therapist who helped him realize, quote, this is an everyone-thing. no matter our circumstances, we're all carrying around things that hurt. they can hurt us if we keep them buried inside. warriors head coach steve kerr applauded love's decision. >> doesn't matter if you're an nba player or the average guy, it's just -- we're human beings.

regulate short-term rentals. after receiving feedback, the county will take more time to re-examine the proposed rules. a judge ruled that county election officials must give voters a chance to verify their signatures before rejecting signatures on mailed ballots. the judge says an existing law that allowed county election managers to do so if the signature did not match the one on file violated the federal and state constitutional rights of due process. last november, the aclu filed a lawsuit after the state rejected up to 45,000 ballots because of mismatched signatures in the 2016 november election. when the former first lady invites you to a dance party, you accept. ♪ >> that is michelle obama dancing with 2-year-old parker curry. obama invited curry to her washington office after seeing viral photos of curry staring at her portrait at the gallery last

then by noon, it kind of tapers just a little bit. then scattered showers are possible during the afternoon and evening hours. then that shower chance continues, especially south of the san mateo bridge friday and maybe a few light showers across the north bay early friday evening. as far as the rainfall tote altalts, there you go. everybody on dry ground. then the rain rolls in. i think tomorrow morning, we'll start off with dry weather in the east bay valleys and also down in the south bay. by the end of the commute, you'll start to get wet. by 7:00 tomorrow evening, a couple of hundredths most neighborhoods up to about .2 inches in the north bay. now, most of saturday is going to be dry, but saturday evening, that's when rain rolls back in. there's a slight chance of a scattered shower on sunday if you have outdoor plans or certain co-worker of ours keeps tweeting me about her son's second birthday party sunday. looks like it's going to be pretty good. then tuesday, it will be wet and breezy.

students from the academy packed tens of thousands -- 10,000 meals for families in need yesterday. it was an event held and started by san francisco giants world series hero jeremy afeld. more than 13 million children struggle with hunger in the u.s. an australian woman found what appears to be the oldest message in a bottle. the 131-year-old bottle was partially filled with sand. inside, a tiny rolled note bound with a piece of string. researchers believe that sailors on a german ship tossed it int the water in 1866. hundreds of miles from where it was found. this message is no sos and i'm sorry to disappoint you, not a love letter. they believe it was part of a german naval experiment to learn about ocean current. >> boo. >> still cool but boo. >> coming back with a full 90 minutes of news to help residents who lost their homes

our abc 7 news app. we'll send out a push alert when he starts speaking. justice for kate steinle in the u.s. court of appeals. attorneys for san francisco want the court to uphold throwing out a lawsuit against the former sheriff. they claimed that nuke really was -- he later shot steinle. za rah day was acquitted of manslaughter in november. his attorneys argued it was an accidental shooting. stanford university is taking steps to ensure students, faculty and employees know when do if a gunman shows up on camp campus. they posted this video on its website with the hopes of preparing their community for an active shooter. they sometimes wore that i something could happen after the high school massacre in parkland, florida. >> i guess, you think where the safe spaces are. like where you could possibly hide. where you could possibly run to.

>> the video, advocates for first try to run and hide from the threat. how to fight an attacker with anything around your school or office. like a fire extinguisher or each our laptop. an effort to ban gun shows at the santa clara county fairgrounds is moving forward. they unanimously approved plans to study a ban on gun sales. the fairgrounds typically hosts two gun shows a year. the measure also directs the county counsel to report to the board about other options for improving public safety by reducing gun violence. the proposal stems from the mass shooting at a floo floo high school last month which left 17 people dead. a registered sex offender is under arrest accused of indecent exposu exposure. a 16-year-old girl was walking on the street just before 6:00 monday night when she saw 35-year-old christian morales. the girl says he was touching himself and exposing himself. responding officers found him in

the area and took him into custody. the new details about what may have caused this scary sight on a flight out of sfo. remember this video from a passenger showing the engine on the plane missing the front covering? the ntsb says several fan blades in the engine broke and that the engine could you lynx flew off. the pilot received warnings of an engine compressor stall and they made a safe emergency landing. none of the 373 people on board were hurt. more help for san jose residents displaced by the coyote creek floods. the city council has accepted a $5.4 million grant from the state department of social services to help families who lost their homes. more than a year after the flood, 42 people are still living in temporary housing. the grant money will pay for their housing assistance. what is left will help others from future disasters. >> the san francisco board of supervisors wants to charge uber and lyft for using city streets.

morning? >> still prettylight. we're starting to slowly ramp up. but it has been just extremely quiet in the traffic center so far today. i want to head out to the central valley. we're hearing from the tracy area that we do have a collision on westbound 205. before you get to mountain house parkway. two vehicles involved. they were in the right lane but working on pushing that to the right shoulder right now. i'm not seeing a massive backup, but yes, we have heavy traffic in the area approaching that. and beyond that as well. 15, 14 miles an hour as you get closer to altamont pass. that's always one of our busiest early routes. another one of the busy early routes is the bay bridge toll plaza. we got official word from chp that the metering lights were flipped on at 5:27. a little later this morning reflecting the light volumes. we'll head back up to westbound 80 around san pablo avenue where we had an earlier crash at 5:50. a south bay robotics team gets good news after a thief stole one of their creations. the deadline that the students are now up against.

i we worked with pg&eof to save energy because wenie. wanted to help the school. they would put these signs on the door to let the teacher know you didn't cut off the light. the teachers, they would call us the energy patrol. so they would be like, here they come, turn off your lights! those three young ladies were teaching the whole school about energy efficiency. we actually saved $50,000.

crash where our vehicle spun out from the eastbound side. crossed over to the westbound lanes. that was briefly sitting in the left lanes. we did get the all clear from chp there before san pablo avenue. seeing a little stop-and-go traffic approaching that area. behind that, from hercules, westbound 80 near pinole valley road. a hit and run on the shoulder now. a vehicle with the hazards on and traffic stop and go from highway 4 as well. a quick check of drive times overall, looking okay today and much better if you're coming from the east bay, walnut creek, orinda area. walnut creek to dublin on southbound 680 looks great. southbound 101 santa rosa to san francisco in the green at 53. northbound 17 if you're coming up through the santa cruz mountains, highway 1 to los gatos. that looks great. in the green at 22 minutes. marshawn lynch began driving golf carts in 2006 when he played for cal. beast-mode is back at it again. he's looking to introduce
